Does that translate to grossly oversold? Or something ominous and gut-wrenching?
F#&%K I hope so. I'm so sick of this.
My only, remote, desperate hope is Summer kicks profits into overdrive and Doug makes one of his classic reversals.
As in "no profit sharing... Wait.. okay we'll do it."
But this time it's "the debt's fine... wait okay we'll pay it down..."
Please God Please..
Thank you.
I'm glad somebody said it.
I think that you're way wrong.
The fact that he is in tune with maintaining the dividend through thick and thin gives you insight into his mindset. I was hoping he would say that frankly. Not that he's raising it.
One of his big concerns is not giving things then take them away like previous management did. I disagree with you completely. JM HO.
Just you wait.
We have a powerhouse Summer travel season, they announce they've completed buybacks early and aren't authorizing any more but instead are reducing debt to come in line with their peers, and oh by the way, we're raising the dividend to reward patient investors, and WHAM!! $46 pps.
Just a hunch..
I got a feeling they're hoover-vaccing up as many shares as they can before any news and upswings. Which is smart.
I'm hearing positive rumblings too. Maybe some good news coming?
Sad but true.
Who knows... Maybe at the shareholders meeting on the 8th they'll announce something good.
Here's hoping..
Yeah, it looks that way.
Wouldn't it be awesome if he gets outstandings down to 400mil, and then announces a plan to reduce debt. We's be at $42 instantly.
Yowzhaa... 336 mil.
Wow.
God I hope you're wrong. But you might not be. Only time will tell.
I'm all in either way, so I gotta see it through. The luckiest stock grab of my life might turn into the dumbest long bet I've ever made, time will tell..
They are going to follow the same tactic as Southwest and Delta. Just you watch. But they will do it on their own time schedule of course. And not one that suits us
my guess is they will reverse course on capital utilization, and say they're going to work on knocking the debt down, but only once they've got to share count down to where they want it.
These airline seem to copy one another pretty predictably i'll bet they announce ceasing buybacks and/or raising the dividend at some point this year. JMHO
The lack of scheduled court hearings for sometime now tells me things might be wrapping up. Also all of the court dockets seem to be centered around the same couple of outstanding claims.
This too might be an indication that things are wrapping up. JMHO.
Rumors on the street I heard were distribution sometime this summer. Which we are approaching. So who knows
It is. And time will reward us.
Is it just me?
Or is it more than a little bit counterproductive to announce the future raising of dividends and cessation of buybacks, WHILE you're still buying back?
Perhaps ole' Dougie is on plan and on track by saying only neutral/negative things while buying back, and keeping his cards close.
Could be strategy... I'm just sayin'....
So now the question is:
When will American do the same?

Right there with you.
My optimism and belief in Doug's plan (words anyway) got me all rolled up into this, not on margin though, but hard-earned cash.
Like several folks on here, I've divided my portfolio into long (core holding) and short term ("fluff") for trading purposes. I've profited tidily from trading the swings, but alas in the end it doesn't equal the greater paper loss to my core holdings. That part has even eaten up all my dividends.
And all I've really got to show for it is short term gains taxes up the wahzoo... ouch.
I'm "In for penny, in for a pound though". I've already lost so much I'm going to hang on and pray he/they have a plan for debt or something that will at least put us on a footing with our nearest rivals.
Yahoo finance finally updated the EPS to reflect the outstanding share count reductions from buyback retirements.
$11.16 EPS.
Lol. I just got that.
Time appears to be proving you right.
The overwhelming negative sentiments against airlines in general, AAL in specific, makes me fear no.
Hoping I'm way wrong.
I'm so angry my mouth tastes like copper.
well, there goes a (not) small fortune...
So I'm guessing from the silence that either most of us have jumped ship,
Or are under oxygen masks.
yep. I jumped back in too early. ouch. oh well. I've done it before and simmered a good long time before I got upright again.
Waiting?!!
No, no, no... I'm stockpiling.
Duct tape and chloroform..
Speaking of which, when is the next earnings call?
Great. Don't mind me, I'm just going to jump off this bridge...
We are so screwed. I figured I'd pick up some cheapies. They are now officially cheaper-er-er-ies
And only remove it to let him announce the debt reduction plan has started.
Well, we actually finished up for a change. That's a start... isn't it?
Gulp...
Unbelievable! Hallelujah!!
A Green Day!!!
You're not wrong. It's f-n' ugly. UGLY.
But don't let it mess you up. It's just money. We knew this game was rigged when we got into it. I'm easily out half a mil in the last month. Just gotta breath deep and buy when others are running for the doors.
Weird thing is nothing's really changed to trigger this that I can see. We had buy backs before. And we beat earnings. The debt sucks, but it's been there all along . So what the f. This is a nosebleed thats not stopping.
Maybe tomorrow will be a better day...
Rainbows.. Unicorns... Puppies.. Happy thoughts...
I guess I just can't bring myself to believe that people as smart as Doug and his Board of Directors would just be flying blindly.
I mean there's a reason they're sitting at the controls of the largest airline in the world, and I'm not. At least I think so.
But of course I definitely could be wrong. certainly my stock portfolio net worth would speak to that right now ??
So at what point do you see them stopping this? When they've taken the company private? They have to stop at some point. Right?
I guess of course as the stock price gets lower they get more more bang for their buck anyway. Even if they are just making up as they go along. Maybe there is at least some positive in that. The EPS has to go up simply because of the math, no?
Is it even possible that they have a strategy in place? Or is that just ridiculously wishful thinking?
Because this is just nuts.. We're getting skinned.
What's the next move obe-wan... Please tell me.
Throw me a life line here...
I just want to barf so much.
So.
Much.
Anger...
