Was she so drunk that she didn't know an iPhone from a rock?
Everyone knows that Papers, Scissors, and Rocks go together.

P.S. Although this two and a half minute video has nothing to do with inebriated neurologists, it's still a captivating message from the Cruz people.
. . .And, don't hesitate to get professional assistance if you need it. . .
I use the services of an accountant. Maybe this is overkill now that I'm no longer running an active business, but over the years, the guy has worked really well on my behalf and I like the ease and simplicity of dumping my tax woes on his desk, so I'll continue with him.
That being said, if I were put under the tax collector's magnifying glass, my accountant wouldn't be my first choice from among the professionals I'd look to for assistance. I'd head for my lawyer instead.
Lawyers enjoy confidentiality privileges that Accountants do not.
It's not that I have anything to hide, but with the tax code consuming thousands, if not millions, of pages, an inadvertent oversight is not entirely out of the question, so shielding myself from the arrogance and over-zealousness of so-called "public servants" to the best of my ability would be a wise choice.
Cheers, PW.
P.S. In some situations, when your Lawyer speaks to your Accountant on your behalf, that communication is considered privileged.
And of course, no sane person would want things to escalate to this level, but sometimes situations take on a life of their own. It may seem extravagant to be paying TWO professionals at the start, but it may prove far cheaper in the long run.
P.P.S. In Canada, the Tax Collectors telephone people. This makes our fraudulent callers MUCH more productive.
I remember the old TV programs like "Father Knows Best," "Leave it to Beaver," and "Andy Griffith." I can also remember when teachers kept the "cure" for Attention Deficit Disorder in the bottom drawer of their desks.
It seems a long time ago.
About fifteen years ago, when I used to share stories from my childhood, I mentioned Mother's reaction to one of my transgressions.

When I was a little kid, my allowance was 5 cents per week.
I asked Father to lend me an extra nickle, and he was quite willing to do so, demanding a cent per week interest. I felt RICH!
Soon, I was borrowing another nickle. This was FUN!
But when it came time to get my allowance, Father counted out the five cents, then took back the interest. This didn't bother me -- I'd just borrow another nickle.
Eventually, Father counted out my five cent allowance, then pocketed five cents in interest, leaving me with nothing. Like previously, I asked to borrow another nickle.
Father refused. He pointed out that I had no means of repayment, nor even the capacity to meet additional interest obligations.
I was penniless -- both literally and figuratively.
Life had become profoundly painful for the next few weeks. Mother suggested a plan -- earn money and repay Father.
Mother's plan made sense, but it didn't make for much fun.
Eventually, I was debt free.
The lesson I learned as a little kid was painful at the time, but compared to learning the same lesson as an adult, it was little more than a minor inconvenience. Over the years, I developed a profound gratefulness for Father's lesson about debt.
Apparently, few are so lucky.

P.S. For anyone who finds determining the roles of the men in the cartoon difficult, here's a hint: The guy with the hammer wants to build the barn.
Where I live, we have a large Amish population. Although they rarely socialize with "outsiders," they are not antagonistic toward us and they do not expect us to alter our culture. All interaction I've had with them have been cordial.
And if I needed a barn built, I'd hire an Amish builder to do it.
Although I've never needed a barn, I did need our dining room altered and the job was given to an Amish crew. They did superb work at a reasonable cost. They worked without the ubiquitous construction-crew grade ghetto-blaster, shouting, smoking, displaying "plumber cleavage" and leaving a mess. They arrived when promised and finished on time.
When Amish people are working on site and their wives bring them lunch, it's common that the kids come along too. Because they eschew electricity, refrigeration is uncommon and frozen treats are rare. It's amazing to watch Amish kids when they're given ice-cream -- it's a HUGE treat for them.
An interesting analysis of traditional media's decline. . .

When I saw this Mallard Fillmore cartoon, I was curious and looked into "Academic Adrift" to get up to speed.
A few mouse clicks later, I came across this site
Academic Adrift
I couldn't resist thinking about my own experience with post-secondary education. After an honest appraisal, I can't say I learned very much. Sure, I did learn, but did I learn enough to justify the time, effort, cost, and lost income? I cannot say I did.
It seemed like one big multi-year employment screening competition with far more emphasis on grading and evaluation than learning. Although I must admit that weak candidates were weeded out early, and only the talented and motivated graduated, I also must acknowledge that the process that supposed to bring out the best in us also brought out the worst in many of us as well.
Cheers, PW.
P.S. The previous cartoon Mallard mentions. ..

If a state doesn’t vote for Hillary Clinton, it’s racist.
That’s the label that poor New Hampshire, the state just too white to appreciate the virtues of a white woman with dyed blonde hair who occasionally puts on a bad fake southern accent and switches from loving the Yankees to hating them, was stuck with after turning her down.

I've filed this one under "What's he using for brains?"
This guy, who we all know as Robert Reich, Secretary of Labor under Bill Clinton, made an unflattering video about Ted Cruz.
Trouble is, the video seems more likely to HELP Cruz than harm him.
While Trump was speaking, protesters turned off the lights in the auditorium. He managed to turn this to his advantage.

Sen. Rich Taylor, an Iowa State Penitentiary employee for 20 years, said most offenders are good people and deserve a second chance.
What about the applicant who has never been in trouble? Does this person merit preferential consideration?
The non-offending applicant has demonstrated superior decision making; hence, they have the potential to become the better employee. To me, the choice is a no-brainer.

I really like shoehorning my systems into small spaces. Here, I've managed to get Windows Ten into an 8 GB volume with a bit of room to spare.
Admittedly, it's quite a basic system, just Windows Ten and Office.

P.S. Currently, I'm using a 32-Bit system. My 64-Bit system occupies a tiny bit over 9 GB, so I "Went all Extravagant" and allocated 10 GB for it.

Another "Have we gone nuts?" video. . .
With the huge snowfall hitting some areas along the East Coast, I feel I should share some advice I give my husband whenever he picks up the shovel and heads toward the driveway.
"Begin by clearing the mess the plow left at the road first. That way, the ambulance attendants won't need to jump over it when they're carrying you away on a stretcher."
Cheers, PW.
P.S. When it's especially cold outside, I like to fill a Thermos with hot chocolate. When I do this, it stays hot for the whole time I spend relaxing near the window watching him work.
If these guys lose their jobs, how, (or more importantly,) WHO will end up supporting their families? If they become dependent on taxpayers, does that make everyone better off?
A suggestion: Prayer or Work? Decide. But deciding not to work should be coupled with the elimination of benefits. The "Social Safety Net" was meant to help working people who have fallen on hard times, not as a support mechanism for people who walk off their jobs to pursue other goals.
Cheers, PW.
P.S. My "Practical" solution. . .
Give them the breaks they demand -- and take their shorter work days into consideration when negotiating wages.

It's unwise to bite the hand that feeds you.
This idea is usually learned by the very young, often before their Primary School education begins. Most pets, and even a few wild animals learn this too.
It's amazing that a person can gain admission to University while lacking such a basic understanding of how the world, and life, usually works.

During the last few months, I've had the (mis)pleasure of visiting a few Hospital Emergency Departments. Although each visit was necessary for different reasons, they all had one thing in common. . .
At some point during the examination, the Doctor would ask me what day of the week it was.
The next time I'm at an office supply store, I'd like to pick up some pocket calendars and keep a few of them in the car. That way, whenever an Emergency Department Doctor asks me what day it is, I could give him a pocket calendar and put an end to his confusion.
Don't these guys realize that people like me are a unreliable resource for this type of information. After all, after someone retires, every day is Saturday!
Can someone explain what they're doing?

A bit off topic, but not too far off (I hope). . .
I have a gun safe with a mechanical combination lock.
To open the safe, I need to know the combination, but as well, the "Method" of using it. It goes something like this: Three turns right, stop, two turns left, stop, one turn right, stop, last number.
My safe has a "window" in the door where I can view the lock mechanism. After observing it as I enter the combination, I began to wonder if I could follow the routine in reverse. I tried it and it worked. (The combination needed is quite a bit different.)
Why do this?
What if the alternate combination is a series of numbers that's much easier to remember? It may make sense to use the less mentally taxing combination.
As well. . .
For those who write down their combination, using the "Reversed" numbers may slow down someone who discovers your reminder and tries to open your safe. The "Reversed" combination will not open the safe if used with the normally correct "Forward" technique.
Cheers, PW.
