yeah, why not, what a monster of a merger .... it is all to play for... Dems looking like they could take the senate... then boom boom for canna sales...
rumours flying around about merger... whatever is happening, nice to see green... Do you think this is the autumn run...?
Wow, thanks Funman, that's some news... or is it just rumour....? that would create one huge international canna company that could rule the world, including the US when the Dems decriminalise / Legalise... hope we are looking at a 30% to 40% premium... Most of my Canadian investments are in these two companies, mind you, I might prefer Aphria to stand alone as I think Diageo or Coke might prefer to partner with APHA...
Fab day.... just arrived home to see we are now up 10%.... is this the beginning of the autumn run... that could double up this year with the Dems ahead in the polls...?
The Public Health Association of New Zealand is urging a "yes" vote in the cannabis referendum, while doctors are openly questioning the NZ Medical Association's opposition to legalisation.
The referendum on October 17 is about the proposed legal framework outlined in the Cannabis Legalisation and Control Bill, which details strict controls including a consumption age of 20, limits on THC potency, a levy ring-fenced to boost health services and a ban on smoking a joint anywhere except at home or at licensed premises.

Mind-altering THC chemical in cannabis could help prevent and treat deadly COVID-19 complications by blocking harmful immune response
University of South Carolina researchers say THC could help prevent a harmful immune response that causes Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)
ARDS is a form of lung failure that can be fatal with COVID-19 patients

In NZ the Greens are pro legalisation. The present government may need the Greens in a possible coalition to maintain power after the upcoming general election in mid Oct... so if legalisation is not passed in this referendum then the Greens may push legislation through parliament, such as Justin Pierre James Trudeau did in Canada... all is not lost, stay steady Funman...

If / When Dems take WH, and do good in Senate, and K Harris' views over-ride Biden's conservative cannabis stance, then yeah, GoSing, you are correct that Aphria's share price zooms... imho.

GW Pharmaceuticals receives Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approval for EPIDYOLEX® (cannabidiol) for the treatment of seizures in patients with two rare, severe forms of childhood-onset epilepsy
This represents the third successful regulatory approval globally for GW’s plant-derived cannabis-based medicine
LONDON, Sept. 23, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- GW Pharmaceuticals plc (Nasdaq: GWPH) (“GW”, “the Company” or “the Group”), a world leader in discovering, developing and delivering regulatory approved cannabis-based medicines, today announces that the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has approved EPIDYOLEX® (cannabidiol) for the treatment of seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) or Dravet syndrome in patients two years of age and older.
This represents GW’s cannabis-based medicine’s third global regulatory approval, following US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval in 2018 and European Commission (EC) approval in 2019. GW has partnered with Chiesi Australia to make this medicine available in Australia, and the Company will now work alongside its partner and Australia’s Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) to secure reimbursement for the medicine through a listing on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).
“GW was founded over two decades ago with a mission to bring cannabis-based medicines to patients with an unmet medical need. We are proud to now be able to bring GW’s cannabidiol to patients in Australia following this approval and our partnership with Chiesi Australia,” said Chris Tovey, GW’s Chief Operating Officer. “This marks our third global regulatory approval and is another important step for GW and the patients we are here to support. The TGA approval is further proof that cannabis-based medicines can successfully go through extensive randomised placebo-controlled trials and a rigorous evaluation process to reach patients who need them.”
“We are delighted to announce the TGA registration of EPIDYOLEX®, an important step forward for the management of LGS and Dravet syndrome. We are working closely with the Department of Health to achieve greater access to this medicine as soon as possible,” said Chris Rossidis, General Manager, Chiesi Australia.
The approval of GW’s cannabidiol is based on results from four randomised, controlled Phase 3 trials. These studies incorporate data from more than 714 patients with either LGS or Dravet syndrome, two rare forms of epilepsy with high morbidity and mortality rates, which place a significant burden on families and caregivers. Many patients with LGS or Dravet syndrome have multiple seizures per day, which puts them at ongoing risk of falls and injury. Despite current anti-epileptic drug treatment, both of these severe forms of epilepsy remain highly treatment-resistant.1,2,3

London-based manager aims to raise Europe’s biggest cannabis fund
(This is from the Financial Times today: 22-Sept-2020.... The FT today has two stories on cannabis today, and readers comments are about 80% to 90% pro legalisation)
Europe’s small market for investing in cannabis is showing signs of life, with a London-based investment firm focused on wealthy individuals hoping to raise the region’s biggest dedicated fund.
North America dominates cannabis investment, with 12 out of 14 cannabis-focused exchange traded funds globally listed there, according to data group ETFGI. Returns have often been poor.
But Chrystal Capital Partners believes a growing wave of legislation will boost the popularity of cannabis investment, and its potential returns. It is hoping to raise an initial $100m for the Verdite Capital Fund, an actively managed fund launched on Monday, before growing it to $200m through a later fundraising.
“We think this will be a highly regulated industry in 10 years’ time,” said Kingsley Wilson, an investment partner at the firm, acknowledging that regulatory risk had deterred many private equity and institutional investors from the sector. “Regulation and funding will underpin the market transition and how it moves from an illegal to a legal market.”
Chrystal’s strategy will focus on medical marijuana, cannabis-derived drugs and so-called CBD — a cannabinoid that does not make users feel high. About half of its assets will be invested in North America and at least 35 per cent in Europe. It will avoid companies supplying marijuana for recreational use, Chrystal said.

French Committee Pushes for Cannabis Legalization
French leaders are concerned that the country is falling behind its European neighbors.
https://hightimes.com/news/french-committee-pushes-for-cannabis-legalization/
Excellent news, thanks Funman.
And it keeps getting better:
"Aphria has bucked the trend among Canada’s biggest licensed producers and increased its sales and share of the adult recreational use market in each of the past five fiscal quarters."
A private company survey in German in April found that "Almost 81 percent support legalization of cannabis in various forms."
clever move...
Germany is the key to Europe. Before the Brits, French, Spanish or Italians, the Germans could legalise... Merkel, the most popular world leader, was positive for legalising during the government negotiations with the greens and business parties, but that government failed to come together...
There is a cannabis pilot programmes in Berlin, that could influence the whole of Germany .... whatever the Germans do the rest of Europe follows... Prohibition Partners express that across Europe "a tidal change in policy might not be far away." If so, Aphria is in a fabulous position to ride that wave.
The Financial Times today 15th Sept 2020:
Share price forecast
The 16 analysts offering 12 month price targets for GW Pharmaceuticals PLC- ADR have a median target of 186.50, with a high estimate of 275.00 and a low estimate of 136.00. The median estimate represents a 74.48% increase from the last price of 106.89.
Will Canopy Growth Be Able To Compete In A Highly Saturated CBD Market?
https://www.technical420.com/cannabis-article/will-canopy-growth-be-able-to-compete-in-a-highly-saturated-cbd-market/
Here is another article from Ted's latest newsletter published today:
It was announced this week that the United Kingdom will take applications for one million cannabis exemption cards (Cancard) starting November 1, 2020 although people can begin to register their interest immediately. The Cancard, a holographic identity card, will provide medical cannabis patients, medical practitioners and law enforcement a workaround until cannabis laws change. Obviously, Khiron Life Sciences (TSXV: KHRN) (OTCQX: KHRNF) is well positioned to take advantage of this new development. The Times reported that approximately 3.5 million people with health conditions will be allowed to use the card. The Cancard is the idea of Carly Barton, the most prominent advocate for medicinal cannabis in the U.K. and seems like such an excellent idea, I wouldn’t be surprised to see it used in other jurisdictions where the political process is not moving swiftly enough.
(a) Medical patients: it is estimated that over 1.4 million people in the UK are severely ill and rely on the therapeutic benefits of medical can- nabis. The problem is that neither medical nor adult use cannabis is legal so people with medical needs are subject to possible criminal arrest if they purchase illegal cannabis or attempt to grow their own.
(b) Medical practitioners: since November 2018, medical cannabis could be prescribed by medical specialists through the National Health Service (NHS) or by prescriptions through private clinics. The process
was ponderous due to red tape and in 2019, only 18 prescriptions were issued through the NHS and none for full-extract cannabis oil. Private prescriptions have been prohibitively expensive exceeding £2,000 per month. Under the Cancard system, medical practitioners including General Practitioners (non-specialists) only attest to the fact that a person has a particular health issue that allows them to qualify for a card. Cancard is partnering with Primary Care Cannabis Network (PCCN) that believes ultimately GPs will be the most important prescribers for medicinal cannabis.
(c) Law enforcement: is fully supportive as they have been involved in the planning of Cancard. Martyn Un- derhill, Police and Crime Commissioner for Dorset said, “Cancard will provide them with an assurance that their ill health will not lead to a criminal record. Furthermore, it will also be a valuable tool to help frontline officers, saving them time by providing immediate verification of genuine medical patients and therefore giving them the confidence to use their discretion.” The plan is supported by the Police Feder- ation and the National Police Chiefs Council. In addition, cardholders will have access to an open-source legal defence provided by Cancard.
PS: The Times ran two stories last week around this Cancard, and in the comments there were about 8 to 1 commenters in favour of legalising, regulating and taxing cannabis in the UK.... The Times is probably still the opinion maker for the UK....
thanks for this, John.
I have already sold most of my OGI and bought into Curaleaf...
Wondering is Canopy one of the LPs involved in this:
"In early 2018, the Dutch Parliament passed legislation to allow between five and ten licensed growers to supply local adult-use programmes, which will take place in ten municipalities of the country. In July 2020, the government started receiving applications, which has attracted attention from North American LPs, who are keen to take a foothold in the European recreational market."
RECREATIONAL CANNABIS PROJECTS BEGINNING TO EMERGE IN EUROPE
Prohibitionist ideologies embedded in the international narcotic treaties have hampered the development of legal recreational cannabis programmes in Europe. However, we have seen the emergence of cannabis social clubs and associations and more recently, a number of proposals and pilot programmes in Luxembourg, Switzerland, San Marino and across major European cities such as Copenhagen and Berlin, indicating that a tidal change in policy might not be far away.

UK: Cannabis card to help millions in pain
Police chiefs are backing a new “cannabis card” that will provide de-facto decriminalisation of the drug for millions of people with health conditions.
Up to three and a half million with cancer, multiple sclerosis, depression, arthritis and several other illnesses could be eligible to use the card.
It will identify the holder as a “registered medical cannabis patient” and officers say it will give them a justification for not arresting someone in possession of the drug.
The Police Federation of England and Wales, which represents rank and file officers, has endorsed the scheme and the National Police Chiefs Council, which represents senior officers, is working with the card’s organisers on design and implementation.
