Barge,
You've got mail.
Svenm
Weby, Amen! I wouldn't dispute any of that.
Svenm
Barge, Excellent Find! It's especially interesting to me to see how far along Nokia seems to be. Do you think they want security in their phones that are sending digital images?
Svenm
Zen, Good point. But since the author of the article couldn't provide a direct quote or name to the Intel spokesman two year reference I found it interesting that the quoted naysayer lacked significant credibility, IMHO.
Svenm
Weby, With all due respect, Weby. If you believe those deployment #'s the share price should be considerably higher by 2006. I'm afraid I don't share your adherence to an arithmetic progression. In the case of Wave I believe with deployment we will be looking at a much more geometric graph (hopefully RISING asymtotically-sp?- as opposed to falling for a while). I'm just starting Seani Pearson's book on Trusted Computing--and the first point she makes is that this is a disrupting technology that should be in place for many years. I don't think those kind of technologies have a share price curve more reminiscent of an established electrical utility. IMveryHO.
Svenm
GKS and others,
Also, remember this quote about taking two years is not from an Intel spokesperson. This is from the CEO of an obscure IT and security consulting company whose fledgling business may well be obliterated with a ubiquitous hardware security solution! This would not make me sleepless in San Diego!
Svenm
R2, Agreed. And I would add that when the Wave TPM announcement was first made over a year and a half ago and this board was full of controversy over the question of "vanilla" vs. Embassy, I emailed SKS asking him whether or not he felt that the vanilla chips were a significant defeat for Wave or not. His reply at the time was that the company saw "vanilla" as an opportunity to develop a current revenue stream, while educating the industry about the full functionality of Embassy. I consider that to be a prescient and wise call. Everything seems to be pointing in that direction currently, IMHO.
Svenm
bbigtim. Thanks for the response and by the same token, I apologize for the delayed response but I've been out of computer reach for the last 6 days. I agree with your response re: market cap in the case of "trusted computing niche" vs. ubiquity and your info re: MSFT's Longhorn security solution vs. Wave's was new to me. It puts the Intel announcement in a truly proper perspective.
Svenm
Vickers, Re: UBS. I was impressed as well by that newsbit. Emails to John Callahan re: Wave's possible involvement have gone unanswered FWIW.
Svenm
Bigtim, I've always found your posts interesting, informative and insightful. There are a couple of questions I have about this one, if you wouldn't mind responding: 1) If you agree that SKS's aspiration for ubiquity is a basic part of the Wave business plan and that a desire and need for secure computing on the part of enterprise and eventually consumers will be quite a strong force, why are you placing an arbitrary ceiling on WAVX market cap at $3-5 B in a few years? Assuming Wave made it that far, where do you think they would in the following 2-4 years?
2)Are you sure that Bill Gates didn't already try to smother Wave (discretely, as I would think that after the last several legal encounters MSFT is pretty careful about trying to "smother" any perceived competition)or at least make it marginal and was unsuccessful in the attempt?
TIA,
Svenm
Eamonn, Yes, that's been discussed at length about a year ago! There was a lot of conjecture about how little ole Wave landed a spot on the Board alongside the big boys.
Svenm
Knute,
Thanks for the report! Would you mind clarifying the point about "80% of the users would pay $20-40/seat for using the services?" Specifically, did SS mean 80% of the activated TPM's (an unknown percentage of the total TPM's shipped) or did he imply that he expected an 80% activation rate (which seems awfully high to me but hey, maybe SS knows something I don't-lol) and that is what they would be paying?
TIA,
Svenm
Digital ID World Conference in October in Denver includes a session titled: Trusted Computing: Foundation of Identity. Speakers are Steven Sprague, Wave and Peter Biddle, NGSCB, Microsoft.

Svenm
Tampa, Thanks and I appreciate the problem. Unclevername's description of his/her day yesterday had me rolling on the floor laughing at that image of myself! I'm not sure if I used to have a better memory. I can't remember well enough to be sure!
Svenm
Rachelelise, Thanks for that clear and succinct explanation. I've drawn similar conclusions myself, previously, but only based on reading between the official lines of public statements from either MSFT or Wave. Have you ever had this plausible explanation confirmed in any other way that you can mention here?
Svenm
Tampa,
Re: MSFT NDA and Wave's concern. When was that publicly stated? Was it during the previous quarter's CC and do you remember the context?
Svenm
Unclevername, As they say in Stockholm: Tack sa hemskt mycket! (Thanks so very much!).
Svenm
Snacks,
Thanks. I'm beginning to feel that your referencees remind me of a more sophisticated form of Trance from the old RB WAVX board. I don't quite understand why some of the veterans persist in engaging them, but it is pretty distracting (which I suspect is the referencees' main goal). Doma had it right: "Why waste any time on day traders?"
Svenm
Interesting article in CB mag re: UBS pilot that eamonshute referenced at: www.cartes-bancaires.com/CB Mag/19/en/edito/index.htm UBS's wealth banking division is probably the largest such in the world and has more immediate need for extremely strong security tech than probably any other financial institution, especially considering the new attacks on private banking taking place under the war on terrorism. Embassy IP at work? Opinions from others? Doma?
Svenm
Teslar, Thanks, Svenm (eom)
Tony, Would you mind putting down the # of your message concerning your FINREAD email from Vonobergen (sp?). I'm a freebie here and I've scrolled these days a couple of times trying to find it without success.
Svenm
Snackman, I've followed the garbage that has been hurled at you over the years and admired your tenacity in the face of that kind of abuse. It could not have been easy and I am sure I was only seeing the tip of the iceberg. I've even wondered occasionally what would drive somebody to spend all that time and face that vindictiveness, but I've met you in person and you seemed pretty normal to me, so I've accepted the fact that there are indeed, some decent, selfless human beings still out there, and you happen to be one of them. For that I've been thankful, and if Wave turns out to be the superstar that we longs hope for, then our speculation will have been rewarded with no little thanks to your efforts. If not, one has only oneself to blame.
As far as the board is concerned, with the Intel announcement a large part of your job has hopefully been completed by this time, anyway. New concerns will arise, but they will not be based on the kind of conjecture of "survive or fail" that required absolute faith with the respect to the technology and finances that have been so much of the past. On IHub we lose the control that you afforded us previously in any event, so by stepping down I'm not sure if we will see much difference anyway. Hopefully Matt will provide a reasonable amount of order. We've already seen a lot of disingenuos posters returning and I find myself only reading a much smaller percentage of total posts than before, and I'll probably use ignore a lot more frequently. That should work out for most of us.
The bad news is the shameless racist attacks you'be been exposed to. The good news is that it only happened because you've been extraordinarily successful, and the stakes are getting high enough that some "people" will use any means to prevent Wave's success. Thanks again for your efforts.
Svenm
Awk, You're so quick. Didn't notice you had already posted the "clean site."
Svenm
Doma,
Great find. I was able to view the graphics better with this url:http://www.krowne.de/silicon_trust/03_day%20two/presentations/WAVE.pdf
Note slide 37 with the Disney store presented. Perhaps this implies a relationship?
Svenm
Shock and awe, Snack, shock and awe! Congratulations on this vindication and thanks for your continuing positive outlook regardless of what negative news may have been raining down. I haven't met you since the E3 in L.A. 3 years ago but I'm looking forward to the Vegas party!
Svenm
Ramsey 2, The other company mentioned was actually Toshiba. If I remember correctly the meeting in Japan at that time involved NSM, so the conclusion I drew was that NSM's silicon was going into those two companies' boxes. NEC was not mentioned during the conversation.
Svenm
Ramsey
Cricket,
It's a possibility that Wave IT may be involved here, although the timing is a little early, perhaps. A Wave sales force was in Japan recently (about a month and a half ago)and subsequently to that I had a conversation with a Wave employee (sorry, the source is not public information)in which he confirmed that agreements had been reached with two Japanese companies involving potentially large #'s of chip deployments with Wave IT. Hitachi was one of the named companies. Perhaps this is a pilot.
