joemoney................sorry, you aren't eligible
I have a "stock" 1975 Dodge std. Van with a 2 barrel 318-V-8 that will outrun your MB anywhere up to 105 or so mph.

Could you put that to some GOOD music?

Joemoney has one of those engines that fumes.
I seriously believe it will always fume.

jmhollen...I LOVE it...I LOVE it...I LOVE it...I LOVE it...
So right on and so funnily delivered...joe is so goofy that we should invite Dave Letterman onto our site.
You may not realize it but big name enteratiners have people cruising these message boards for current material.
A concerted invitation to lots of funny material like yours attracts them

Carolyn...funny...nowdays these "perpetrators" go to jail.
This kind of fun is very human...our justice system isn't.

Yeah...lose a cylinder...lose an engine.
You sure call up a lot of stories.
I used to post to SteerageMate at AUTOS over on RB all the time but there were very few posts or people there that really understood what was going on. They would rave about their car but they had little understanding engineering wise.
Fiat fanatics are fun to rag. They are akin to people buying elephants for pets.
One of the best and the one that frustrates the shit out of me is trying to convince people with serious manifold leaks that they are on a short path to TOTAL DESTRUCTION.
"Oh, it makes some noise, but I will fix it when it gets loud."
Another is the red light. I had some friends...two couples...who voted on whether to continue in the face of the red light. VOTED mind you!
Nice people, I have known them now for a range of 40 to 53 years...total idiots when it comers to cars. They NEVER consult me and have learned not to mention their numerous problems with automobiles...They don't "grok" mechanical things or ME!!!!! NO SHIT! I just had dinner with one of the couples in Berkley not 3 months ago. Friendly, funny...lots of laughs...mention cars? Out Of Here!
Hands had it balanced pretty well...he was a genius...I talked to two of the inspectors months later...they were really awed by the whole thing.
By the way, I was running a pretty fast Chevy with "collapsed lifters" and other trickery that could never beat a 55 "stock" Chevy Nomad Station Wagon...that wasn't you was it you shithead? I have been looking for you for years...lol...lol

My writing style, like all writing styles has and have NOTHING to do with rational discourse.
What is discussed and the manner in which it is written are not even vaguely connected.
In essence, what you have posted is an insult to my person.
I have been sending you nothing but posts of admiration, support and agreement from my very first post.
I have printed out every one of your posts and perused their content at leisure and with great enjoyment. My post #117 at GOD not-withstanding.
Have you completely lost your mind? Maybe you are dorking someone on this site?
Your principles are highly suspect and I am not interested in any further correspondence.
Check to see that you have taken all the meds prescribed for today.

IH has pulled more untold stories out of me in two weeks than RB at 4 months.

Correct in every aspect.
One manufacturer producing all the cars doesn't work either.
Cheating at dragstrips in the 50's and 60's was an emerging art that has blossomed in every venue...much to the enlightenment of design engineers everywhere.
We had a guy in the 60's called "Hands" - you should have seen him working on a four barrel. His hand alone was twice the size of the carburetor.
Hands built an engine (Chevrolet) that had stock pistons, bore valves ...everything...on ONE SIDE OF THE BLOCK! The other side was full bore "lets race you idiot" It was appropriately balanced. This guy was an uneducated engineering genius who loved to win.
He was a consistent winner and they would pony up the $25 fee and the racing commissioners would tear down one side of the engine to inspect it. Of course, HANDS was a personable guy and would manipulate them into tearing down the legal side.
It took them over a year to finally catch him...lol...lol...lol...lol...lol...lol...
ola
Mechanical Method
That is a good question.
You see, the "load" is transmitted through the wheels of each individual engine.
What we have been talking here all day is where and of what quanity the load is in relation to where it is taken from.
In train engines...a 5000 hp unit transmits 5000 hp of work through its wheels to the track.
If you have a 15,000 hp "load" just hook three engines in tandem.
By the way...the couplings that attach one car or engine to another?
Think of this: Each coupling must be of sufficient strength to hold the combined load of every car in the train, no matter how many engines are connected. If you have 5 engines pulling 300 cars of coal, each coupling on every one of these cars and engines is capable of pulling 5 engines and 300 cars!

Thanks, I will
ola
MechanicalMethod
Of course! But why would you design an engine with 500 hp and a crankshaft that can handle 1000 hp?
Why not just design an engine with 1000 hp?
BullRider saw something which he insists was two V-8's bolted together. To what purpose? Proposing these engines as 500 hp each...where will you pull the load from? The end of one naturally...there you bolt a 1000 hp load on, in hopes of taking advantage of the 1000 hp available. Unfortunately, the crankshaft is not designed to handle a 1000 hp load...Quick failure results.
Now, as I pointed out to BullRider...if you attach a 500 hp load to one end of this tandem engine arrangement and a 500 hp load to the other end of this tandem engine arrangement...what you have is essentially two engines driving two loads...why would you hook them up in the first place?
This whole thing got rolling because the poster insisted on an absurdity and refused to accept the simple facts and common engineering sense presented here.
Believe it or not, this poster is now sending private messages of a very insulting nature...I thought the discussion was going great but it turns out he is a "numb nuts" from Dakota.
I appreciate your jumping in and look forward to further posts from you.
ola
oldblue
Yes, these engines are common throughout the history.
They are designed with a crankshaft capable of handling the entire power output of course. They are in no sense of the word "Two engines bolted together"
Individual cylinder construction was common years ago also, where each cylinder was independent of actuating gear, cooling etc. of the others. They always share the same crankshaft and that crankshaft is designed to bear the entire power output of all the cylinders.
There is a poster that INSISTS he saw two V-8's bolted together which is of course, an exercise in stupidity...engineering-wise.
They tried it at the dragstrips and blew them sky high...lol...lol
Back yard engineers come up with a lot of goofy stuff.
ola
oldblue
"common crankshaft" is the key phrase.
You can't bolt two engines together and take power from one end...The cranks are designed for the load/hp produced by one engine...not two.
You understand...when you propose bolting two together you are seeking twice the power to drive twice the load. The load is static, the cranks are designed for half that load, ONLY
Failure will be quick and abrupt.

I am very disappointed in your posts to Joemoney. I can remember the day when you could put someone like Joe, in his place, all tucked in...in just 2 or 3 posts.

Humorous yes...I said a lot of facetious, humorous things.
Your post really roused me since it hit on so many true, obvious things that I totally agree with.
As to cures, this whole Creationism thing should be thrown completely out of all school from High School on down.
Bible classes are not education...they are force feeding a highly questionable religious document (that has nothing to do with education) down the kid's throats.
The prayer in school issue should be thrown out completely.
Political contributions from religious groups should be against the law.
Churches and all religious affiliations should pay taxes.
If they want to participate in government they can do so on an individual basis.
As to the next step? There isn't one implied in my comment. All I meant was that I was really enjoying the post and was disappointed when it came to an end.
As to shortening it up and making it suitable for publication...that just takes work on your part.
As to the you me I, them us we they - stuff. "You" see it clearly and it seems self-evident to "You"...Me too, I also.
Them?...no
Morons? There are tons of morons in religion. Religion attracts morons. As to they all being morons...No, definitely not. In any case, society has an X amount of morons on the streets. Dialog with morons is useless. They drag you down to their own level and then beat you with experience.
The Moral Majority and all that implies is a total fabrication. The Religious Press does not print anything anthema to god, jesus, religion etc. They will print anything handed them by supposed authority. They are not bound by and never do check into sources. If you tell them a recent survey of Americans found 87% of them believed in God...they print it. No questions asked. They routinely print these "surveys", surveys may be taken but then how can you get any accurate information from a survey of Christians? You follow?
If they knock on my door and I tell them I don't believe in any of that crap, you sincerely believe that my survey will become part of the whole?
I don't know how you can get these people to think outside of the church thought or to understand better what is going on.
What do you suggest?

I saw your message to Vivian.

Bullrider........NO ONE has called you a liar.
I went to the Detroit Diesel page once again...No bolted together V-8's. Detroit Diesel has NEVER built an engine with two V-8's bolted together and I assume you are talking crank to crank? I don't see how you could take two separate V-8's and bolt them together other than via the cranks.
I work with diesels everyday and have most of my life. Good lord man, I hold a license.
I don't know what you saw but you want to believe it, go right ahead, me? I DOUBT it.
ola

ola
Bullrifer.......................clarification
As to two V-8's being bolted end to end...and my doubting it. Justifiably so...I went to series 2000 V engine website.
These are not V-8's or any other engine(s) bolted "end-to-end"
I am sure you used the term only to call up a picture in my mind. I am very familiar with this type engine configuration(s)
These engine types are common throughtout the diesel world. They are medium power, mid-range engines.
I worked on the very original and first iterations of this design from General Motors (aproximately 1938). I have maintained, repaired and overhauled many many 16V diesels. The original 278's with an 8-3/4 inch bore are like a bed mate in my mind. (16-278-A)
There was many a day I spent torqueing crabs on the 16-567B's with 3 men and an 8 foot cheater...lol...lol
My experience in diesels is deep, long term and extensive...at present I work with 100,000+ cu.in. 50,000 h.p. in-line diesels, which utilize 20-V diesels for auxiliary power. We run waste heat boilers and turbines off the exhaust(s)
By the way, V-8's bolted end-to-end were an oddity on dragstrips.
marcos has been stirring shit ever since I commented on the high degree of complexity in an engine he seemed over enthusiastic about.
I told him that yacht owners might buy them but diesel engineers that owned yachts wouldn't. lol...lol

Now YOU are Transparent. and THAT is a fact.

I don't think it is your place to take sides and make unfair moves.
Rather, ask BOTH of the participants to leave.
Just because MATT might like me personally is certainly not going to deter him from Banning me from IH should I represent harm overall.

CM has taken me on for some silly macho reason and HEY! I'm not one to back down.

I mean, Hey, we were talking diesels and engines when you came in here and now you want to join in a fight with poet against me?
Whats wrong, your Normand (whatever) engine has been insulted?
It is nice that you went along with a little engine talk and I realize you are far from the experience level that I possess. However, my commenting that diesel engineers do not favor complex, opposed piston engines of the type you YOU asked for comment on, is no reason for you to jump the ditch and start arguing in favor of Poet or entering into an argument you have no idea of historically.
Take your stupid engine and stick it in your ear.
I can throw rocks with the best of them you jerk
