TRAN down $38 today....the underneath part not looking good today...despite the DOW going up...this is big divergence imo going on.
Rory and OMars, will you be buying SPY puts for tomorrow?
Yeah I guess so, but this is an options board...and I don't have the cash I want to have sitting in that kind of a trade all things considered....good luck with it though.
LNKD piece of crap today....this stock is broken imo...I think it will break $190 before it fills that upper gap...
Any thoughts on the REACTION to the FED minutes tomorrow?
thanks UPB! can you get it over $200 today please?
LNKD? Any idea what's up with this stock today...complete about face after yesterday....yikes!
TSLA there's WALL of CHINA at of calls at $250 strike.
he's made so much $ the last few months he could sleep in for a month and still be okay...or take a month's vacation in the South of France in his villa!
JB, do you have $TRAN option chains? I don't seem to have them but I heard someone mention that there was options...thanks. $TRAN is up, so I'm thinking that is good for the DOW, as it's been lagging.
I thought of that too but it seems so far out of the money that it seems like a strange hedge...and the size of it is what caught my eye...
THRX has certainly been in a tight range for awhile now, that's for sure...gl on your calls....I still don't understand the person of someone opening 26,057 June 19 put contracts at $9...that makes no sense to me...you have any explanation...I mean that's way OTM and a such a huge number compared to everything else. Nothing on any month even comes close to that open interest....maybe Nolerman has an explanation?
yes I agree, even googl has lost some of it's lustre for me since the split...it used to be a monster....do you think they are trying to turn us options players into penny players lol! Because that's how I feel playing some of these low budget stocks, ecking out little pennies.
Have you given up on THRX? my calls options have expired, but still holding some June puts.
GOLD $1207.21
DID you ever WONDER why OTM options lose value so quickly? Did you know that an option's value, it's premium, is made up of intrinsic and extrinsic value? That there are 6 or 7 factors that make up an option's intrinsic value, including share price, historical volatility, implied volatility, etc. and the ONLY value OTMs have is "time value"... Yes, folks, an ITM option consists of both intrinsic and extrinsic time value; so just like everything in life you pay for what you get.
OTM are cheap for a reason because they carry more risk... but cheap really means you are buying a bigger, ticking time bomb....all options are time bombs ready to explode one way or the other, up or down... there are many ways to play it and many styles of play, but this is just one thing you should think about options trading before you place your order...
NFLX Split: Food for thought: Just like they did with apple they are getting the share price up to prepare for the split...(who is "they", insert your own name): if you recall apple had a big run up prior to the 7 to 1 split...For me, as an option trader, any many traders would likely disagree, this is not good news. I used to make consistent money on apple daytrading its options, and earnings events were even better but once the 7 to 1 split took place apple became more of a lumbering giant...yes you can still get volatility but it's just not the same as it was. I suspect that NFLX, if they do the 5 to 1 or 10 to 1 split will go the way of apple. Yes, it will make the options more affordable and more liquid but at the same time the moves up and down won't be the same imo. Here is the news at the bottom of my rant: read it and weep...this split idea has been around since the last earnings I think...it's a sad day for me...I hate to see this cash cow go away...I suspect they need more $ to fund their movie making machine, so dilution will likely come along with it...imo...So if this split does happen there's no use crying over spilt milk; the job of an options trader is to adapt and change and find new trading vehicles...there are always other opportunities to explore and that's the joy and challenge of trading...the search for knowledge and experience is never ending... Your education never ends; the work you have to do on yourself never ends...there is no degree at the end of a prescribed curriculum (and I have many of those pieces of paper, which I never hung on my wall; to be consistently successful in the hardest profession in the world would mean more to me than any of those degrees I paid so much for and sweated for lol...the majority of those degrees, which are being pushed on our kids as the ticket out, really mean working for the man...and that is not my idea of a good time....I want FREEDOM not chains...and chains is what the man has to offer...a cushy life with insurances and benefits and perks, until they take it all away...Give me freedom, liberty, and trading any day of the week. Have a great weekend all!

okay cool dude I know you can do it! you've built your account before...you were in the right trade, it just turned out one day too soon, and we all know how hard this options trading is; you were in the right trade they just shook the tree real hard yesterday and made it look like nflx would pin lower. That guy that bought those 80 contracts of OTM had inside info...that makes it a lot easier...easy to hold a big stake when someone tell you huge news is coming the next day...I'm surprised he didn't buy 500 contracts but maybe he didn't want to alert anyone?
cool dude I just wished you could have joined me! I know you got screwed out of your nflx calls yesterday and had to take a big loss; in fact I sold my $582 calls yesterday for profit but bought at $2.27 and sold at $5.50; those same calls made it to $34 today! I was fortunate to get in the 605 calls on the pullback to 600 today.....but I wish you could have joined me...it was cruel what they did yesterday pulling it down to $576...that trader made bank today I'm sure...can't imagine a $3,000 trade turning into $140,000....I did well but a far cry from that amount...
LOL, I'm happy cnvegas! have to be...at least I caught the move...just wish I had seen that trade yesterday lol...gave up my 582s...but 605s worked well..nice way to end the week...
out the last nflx 605s calls at $12.82; got to go...have a great weekend...the first 3/4 of my calls only got $6.50 ...wish I had seen that trade yesterday with 5 minutes before close....that guy had to have made $150.,000 today off $3,000
nflx looking to get out of the last of my 605 calls very soon...could go higher but I have to go pick up my son...remember, there's plays very well into the whole nflx split news that could happen at the meeting in June. Hoping for at least $11.00 from the 1/4 sold the first 3/4 at $6.50 way too early. nflx a beasty.
thanks Stutz...my only regret is doing it the hard way and jumping in TOO soon to options without have a solid foundation, especially in money management and trading psychology;;;and one can find a trading systems but it is what is between your ears that really makes or breaks you! Most people think there is ONE thing that will make them successful, some formula or strategy but usually success or failure is what is staring back at you from the mirror...TOO many times I bet on earnings plays or gambled on lottos trying to hit the big ONE! I overtraded and traded on hope and both are brutal on your account. That's why you really have to find your own style and comfort zone imo...because ultimately you are the only one responsible for your trades..I used to make excuses or blame others for my losses or lack of success when in reality the only one had fault was ME! It's been a tough road, but I'm thinking it will pay off in the end if I can stick to my rules.
Golfnara, Think or Swim has an incredible array of tools that I'm just discovering, I've got to teach this old dog some new tricks...I agree...I am pretty encouraged today, not because of $ but because I'm getting better at spotting setups and my risk management is much better, not taking those big losers anymore...main thing is I have to learn to let winners run, Kraigger has mentioned that a few times...my trade average is quite high but I need to start taking advantage more of that when the trade is going my way. Best of good fortune to you! This has been an expensive education for me ...now I'm ready for it to start paying better dividends...I can't believe the amount of work I've put in but it's something I enjoy so doesn't seem like work always and I've got the freedom to work my own hours...just no insurance or vacation time lol!
golfnara, I have done some crazy things like that, too! But usually not 5 seconds before market close on a Thursday, knowing those calls could be worth .01 on Friday morning if the stock didn't gap up some....I have done daytrades on OTMs the day of the trade, but this one trade seems a bit fishy to me.
Yes, indeed JB! BUT not too many people I know would risk over $3,000 on an OTM trade like NFLX yesterday with one day to expiration UNLESS they had prior knowledge of news...especially since NFLX had gotten sold down the last few days after Monday's run... and the other thing that caught my eye is the time of the trade...I know it's just circumstantial evidence but all the factors together led me to believe that the SOMEONE IN A HIGH POSITION NEW THE BALLS WERE DEFLATED AND ALSO KNEW THE NFLX CHINA NEWS YESTERDAY OR SOONER....
NFLX:here's the trade I spoke about...just going to do it manually:
time: 13:59:55 : May 15 597.5 C; 20 contracts .38 ISE; .30x.43;
time: 13:59:55 : May 15 600 C 40 contracts .19 ISE; .18 X.24
time: 13:59:55: May 15 602 C; 20 contracts .18ISE; .11 x .21
Of course I didn't see this until after hours and wouldn't have been able to place a trade in time even if I had seen it...BUT like I said obviously someone knew what was up with nflx news because it was a $3,000+ trade risk with one day left but it sure paid off,...mayve $120,000 worth or more.
LoL UPB! I know...NFLX insider or someone in the "know" on the news...when I saw that last night and I saw the time of the trade and the amount of contracts I was thinking BOOM BOOM! but it was such a crazy trade with one day left I just couldn't believe it. Funny thing is I had the 582 yesterday at $2.15 and sold at $5.25 they are now $33!!!! if I had held them...I feel awful for cool dude though because he had to take a $3,000 + loss on his nflx calls yesterday and if he'd been able to know what the insider new he'd be sitting on a pile today...that is the other side of options, the dark side... I've never really understood all the insider trader rules, but this guy had to know, especially since the trade went through 5 seconds before close.
LNKD lottos 197!
NFLX that guy with his combo trade of 597/600/602 calls has to be up over $100,000 from a $3,000 investment! unreal....
I have a snip shot of that NFLX combo trade but can't seem to get it posted here...Anyway, that guy is making bank today on those calls he bought for pennies....huge money.
No idea, Bart, but those calls have been sitting up there since Monday, I was in the trade on Monday, posted it here...and they got even bigger overnight...even if I had caught it last night no way to get in with 5 second to market close.
Just sold 3/4 of my NFLX $605 calls from $1.50 to $6.50
nflx: per my earlier post that trader has made about $80,000 so far on a $3,000 combo trade if he held to the highs so far on nflx.
the guy I feel terrible for is cool dude because he had to take a big loss on nflx calls yesterday and today he would have been rich on the same calls. I just had a few $582 calls yesterday and sold them...good luck today guys...looks like lnkd trying to launch.
ALERT!!! NFLX, last night after hours of course I spotted on combo trade on NFLX...it was the biggest trade of the day and took place 5 second before close...don't have time to post the screen shot but it's on TOS... so 5 seconds before close a guy bought the following combo:
20 contracts of 597 calls
40 contracts of 600 calls
20 contracts of 602 calls
you can't tell me the someone didn't know the China news yesterday....
GRCR: anyone want to join this action? I guess options traders may not technically meet the definition of a shareholder because it's a stock derivative, not sure...?

googl: here's the explanation I was looking for today when I posted about that $5 drop in googl that happened in a few minutes....pretty interesting...I know UPB has been pounding the table about googl going back to $500...which certainly could happen...this stock has been goofy all week with the massive calls and puts at the $550 level...never seen that many contracts on this stock...just downright odd. Here's the link:

COOL DUDE you made MONEY$$$ selling LOCO....stock is tanking man! wow, just what I thought earlier someone was selling those $28 calls not buying them...what a crock, another CNBC story, seen it many times....nice job man, you got out with a winner not another loser! So all is not bad.
YELP low of day did anyone have puts this week? (cool dude no worries you never know LOCO might not do anything on ers, it's just a gamble like most of the option er trades) gl to you...sorry you had such big losses on nflx, I think they took a lot of people's money this week on both sides, the calls worked great on Monday for me, but the rest of the week I stayed away. It looks like JB had some nice lotto wins on FB and SAM congrats to him!
