The RUT closed at 648.27, or within a point of recent tops at 647.6 (March) and 648.2 (June) - could be decent support here.
technically you're right, but fundamentally Fahd's fading fast. ggg
FWIW: Debka - if you believe them - say that Saudi King Fahd's condition is sinking:

OT/Freep, I hope this doesn't renew an unwanted addiction. Remember, it's only for use on days when the market is boring (which described today until about the last hour g/ng!).
The RUT is in a rut between 640 & 645, now going on 4 days.
What to do in a boring market?
You can always work on your game online:

My best so far is a 27.
But for a single shot the Pistons could have taken 4 straight from San Antonio. For Larry Brown & 7th game experience I would have to bet on the Pistons although as a hometown boy I'll be rooting for the Spurs.
RUT has moved sideways, hitting on 640 four(!) times. It could stop at the uptrend line
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=$rut,uu[f,a]eaclynay[pc9!c13!c20!d20,2!c50!c200!b50!b200...
or it could break down to support at the downtrend line from the March / Dec highs
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=$rut,uu[e,a]daclynay[pc9!c13!c20!d20,2!c50!c200!b200!a18...
Last October in this situation it dropped to the blue downtrend line:
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=$rut,uu[r,a]dacayyay[de][pf][vc60][iut][J53042085,Y]&...
RUT in a minor down channel (better seen on a 5 minute chart)... perhaps going sideways to down to pick up support at thick blue line:
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=$rut,uu[f,a]eaclynay[pc9!c13!c20!d20,2!c50!c200!b50!b200...
Stockcharts goofy today - on some of my charts it misplaced yesterday (6/20), going from 6/17 to 6/21!
Well, it was just a matter of time before they "found" Osama, just a question as to where - Iran, Syria or one of the Blue States.
Ignoring the burst near the open (that touched the March highs) the RUT seems reined in by 645 on the top (and maybe 642 on the bottom):
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=$rut,uu[h,a]iacayyay[d2][pc10!c20!d20,2][vc60][ilb14!la1...
I wouldn't be surprised to see it correct down to the bottom of a wider channel (currently 639).

Futures indicate a RUT open at the March high (647+), possible G&C?
Yet if the RUT holds 647 it's an open field to the December high, 656.
RUT in a rising wedge, time for a pause / pullback?
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=$rut,uu[r,a]gacayyay[d10][pb20!b50!b200!b13!f][vc60][iut...
Nonetheless it's above minor support at 640 so a pullback may not be deep:
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=$rut,uu[e,a]daclynay[pc9!c13!c20!d20,2!c50!c200!b200!a18...
pt, that's looking like a descending triangle to me.
Newly, thanks for the info and also for making the two charts. Somewhere along the line I read about the 65 minute chart but I had forgotten about it (probably because stockcharts doesn't let me do that). Hiker
Thanks, mchjc - that makes perfect sense.
Well, there's something I don't understand here:
When I plot the 60 Minute chart, the RUT closed today exactly on the falling resistance line from the 12/04 and 3/05 highs:
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=$rut,uu[r,a]eacayyay[dc][pf][vc60][iut!ub5!li10,10!lh5,5...
When I plot the same thing on the daily, today's close is above that line:
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=$rut,uu[e,a]daclyiay[pc9!c13!c20!d20,2!c50!c200!b200!a18...
What's the deal?
Something to think about over dinner.....
RUT daily closed above TL from Dec, March highs:
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=$rut,uu[e,a]daclyiay[pc9!c13!c20!d20,2!c50!c200!b200!a18...
Sheesh, LG, I've had Bateman on ignore for a long time, but even half an exchange with him is a waste of bandwidth. Just ignore him, don't feed him!
Here's what I see (a few extra lines thrown in on yours):
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=$ndx,uu[h,a]daclyiay[pc9!c13!c20!d20,2!c50!c200!b50!b200...
Yup, I wrote that before I peeked at the futures.
Looks like small caps like a Piston win. gg
Before it gets to 647 (if it does) the RUT has to get by the trendline connecting the March & December highs:
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=$rut,uu[e,a]daclyiay[pc9!c13!c20!d20,2!c50!c200!b200!a18...
On the daily chart (above) this is pretty close - on the 60-min chart (for some reason?) there is just a bit more room to run.
The way the Spurs have dominated it's not hard to see a 4-0 series.
I think tonight has the best promise for a close game, with Pistons at home & desperate for a win.
AJ, the markets are just taking a natural rest between the MJ verdict and the Spurs-Pistons game.
I draw it a bit differently:
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=$rut:$ndx,uu[e,a]dalayiay[dd][pc8!c26!c34!h.02,.20!f][vc...
On the 15 minute, the NDX broke thru resistance yesterday, although only to be in a higher down channel:
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=$ndx,uu[r,a]gacayyay[d10][pb20!b50!b200!b13!f][vc60][iut...
But the RUT, again showing greater relative strength, today broke thru resistance on the 15 minute and is making a slightly higher high:
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=$rut,uu[r,a]gacayyay[d20][pi!f][vc60][iut!ub5!li10,10!lh...
I just might add to my small cap long positions.
H&S on the RUT still in play, looks like it's close to time to complete the shoulder or break up:
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=$rut,uu[r,a]gacayyay[d20][pi!f][vc60][iut!ub5!li10,10!lh...
On the RUT 15 min this looks like a backtest of the prior lower channel line.
Also a H&S could be forming with a target of ~605.
605 is also the 50% retrace of the move from 5/13.
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=$rut,uu[r,a]gacayyay[d20][pi!f][vc60][iut!ub5!li10,10!lh...

Thanks anyway. The RUT seems strong relative to the NDX - the NDX head and shoulders just looks like an upward channel on the RUT. Will be interesting to see how the RUT fares as the NDX drops. - hiker
syl, if you get a chance to look - with 1530 as your NDX target, where do you see this move taking the RUT? Thanks - hiker
I'm giving up on tonight's game (since I think Detroit will win) and will try to find a telecast of one of these instead:

Bonus Quote of the Day
From a Rolling Stone interview with Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV):
RS: You've called Bush a loser.
Reid: And a liar.
RS: You apologized for the loser comment.
Reid: But never for the liar, have I?

I don't have Real Player.
Rolling Stone is right - They should have called this episode "The Revenge of the Stiffs".
The RUT appears to be nearing a turning point, fits with what you see for NDX:
