I think a big bank picks them up when the time is right. The days of buying and holding are over, and although the big boys will try, the paradigm shift is on. Etrade should be the future still in online trading.
Thanks for the post Suzy, hope you and yours have a happy New Year also!
Mutt I am afraid they are all inner twined so deep with corruption they dont know what the right thing to do is anymore. When the political leaders of any country are corrupt then the whole thing can blow up at anytime. All of these politicians need to be replaced. Both sides of the isle, vote em all out and lets start over.
Believe me I am in agreement with you on that concept. Problem is not playing their game leads to disaster. We just have to learn to think like they do. Yes, the trail does go up that high. Sad, indeed. Nice discussion.
Same to you Tony and all the folks in the room. Just got the kids the bed and Mrs. Claus is coming to help Santa get the presents out. Lets see 2009 bring us all happiness!
These guys must continue to play the game of the big boy in order to land the big deals and keep quality people. The media wants to paint these things out as big deals, while someone continues to line their pockets with shares. AIG, inmho, will survive and once any positive news comes out on the emotional level we will pop and settle into an uptrend. They are eliminating debt underneath investors noses and most arent even paying attention right now. We shall see. I bought the $5.00 Feb. 09 calls just in case. 500 at an avg of .04. Pure gamble, but who knows anymore what this market might do. Good luck to all and to all a good night!
arghhhhhhhh....Cant believe Layton said what he said if they dont get it. Is the old dog playing games here for the good or the bad of the shareholder. This is getting a little worrisome. I did buy more today at the 1.08 level, but looking like a double bottom may be on the horizon.
Same to you and to all the Ihuber's. Also lets hope the E gets off the runway soon.
This could turn out to be a nice runner in my opinion. Fundamentals are weak, but I will be out half at 1.20 and ride some for the long term play. JMO Bob
Hey, thanks a million. Bob
Can someone point me in the direction of how to post a chart from stockcharts.com? Would like to post a few sometime and get some opinions.
Great post. Your organization is outstanding. Have a safe trip!
Hey no problem. I was just trying to get an idea on who has what broker and why. Thanks for the response, good luck.
Learning to make money and learning how to lose money in this market right now. The chat room is making me one mean trading machine. Been break even for a month now. Traded over 700 times last two quarters. Take out the WAMU hit and I would be up biggly. Hats off to those whom read this board and share information along with the folks in the chat room. I owe you all an enormous amount of gratitude.
Who is your broker? eom
Not sure, I am at break even here at 1.24 and if it taps 1.20 I will sell and wait until it drops furthur. I have been waiting on some good news and I think Layton is saving them up for a better market. This stock is frustrating me and although it hasn't restricted my buying power my account goes up and down so much I am getting sea sick. Sitting on the edge of my freaking chair waiting on some TARP news or a buyout or something. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR I am addicted to it LOL This one dang stock!
I thought companies had to suspend dividends to be in the TARP, but was not sure. Could this be a signal the TARP is on its way potentially, or just a move to re-assure share confidence. Either way I like it short term. I am not sure long yet though, but the day I am we will load the boat. Nice find.
44,000 is paying taxes. No big deal as I see it.

Notice a Texas group bought shares. This company is expanding in Texas at a nice rate. No excuse to be at these levels in my opinion. Wish their IR dept. would get their act together. Not through complaining yet, will contact them everyday, then chew someones butt for not contacting me. You dont ever treat a shareholder like that. Told my rep also to pass the word up.
Honestly left 4 messages for IR to call me and never heard from them. Have been dealing with an internet rep and he has been prompt and you have to qualify for their program with numbers of hits. They are not just taking anyones money right now, still being selective. I bought a ton in the 20's today. Will have about 50,000 shares by end of next week if it holds in the 20's. If it goes up I will ride the wave.
The very last line stating will hit the gov't budget at 0 is huge.
Check this an actual plan

I grabbed the Apr. calls
FBC only financial long that held up for me Tuesday. Interesting indeed.
Will be glad to.eom
Well I hope you are right. Left two messages for IR to call me and didnt receive a call back. Going to my rep tomorrow.
Well, welcome aboard our little E-Tug boat. I am long and I would encourage you to ask any questions or post comments so maybe we can work through this thing. My biggest concern is when will the Tarp news come as accepted. My fear is Layton put his foot in his mouth. What say you?
My Dex rep in the Central Texas area is outstanding. Only reason I am here is I know personally they are continually expanding into new markets. There phone book market penetration is great and I think they have the jump on AT&T in certain areas as far as the internet marketing is concerned. Balance sheet looks as though they can survive this market. That is my only fear with lots of these stocks, but when I look at S&W from .09 to 28 in less than 10 years, I have hope. WM, killed me though and has made me real skitish. Gonna be millionaires made when this market recovers and I am gonna be one of them.

something else to brighten your day
After retiring the $450 million in 6.125% subordinated debt, E*trade has made a profit of over $400 million Issuing 25 million shares with a current market value of about 32 million dollars at around $1.35 a share to receive $18.00 a share has turned out to be a windfall for Etrade. In addition, E*trade will no longer be paying around 28 Million dollars a year in interest to service the subordinated notes.
It is amazing to see E*trade make over $400 million in profit when its market cap is only $725 Million. Of course, E*trade also took in a similar amount by selling about 3% of its firm to Scotia Bank for nearly 72% of it current market cap. Lest we mention the HBSC Indian brokerage deal that when added to the Scotia deal equals about 90% of E*Trade’s current market cap.
E*trade has also been reserving huge amounts against loss, far in excess of the industry wide average that total nearly $2 billion in cash. If the government stops the financial bleeding and buttresses the mortgage market, the need for those reserves against loss that total nearly 21/2 times E*trade’s current market cap in cash will diminish and Etrade will be able to return at least a third to a half of that cash reserve to the bottom line.
If E*trade ever receives $800 Million in TARP money from the Treasury at around 5% interest for five years, E*trade might be able to retire the Citadel debt and replace a 12+% interest rate with a 5% interest rate for servicing that debt.
Now we see that all of the online brokers, including E*trade, stand to profit from this current turmoil as investors withdraw money from mutual funds and trade more.
In my opinion, given the above discussion, the fact that E*trade’s bad debt is diminishing with each day that passes, and the fact that E*trade is reigning in expenses and debt service commitments, $1.35 per Etrade share seems rather low.
E*trade was the first to go transparent in 2007; it has been chugging along and turning itself around, while getting bashed by analysts all the way. E*trade has withstood as much as 25% of its shares being sold short.
I believe that Don Layton and his management team have done a fine job in reaching their goal to turn Etrade around. I expect that E*trade's goals will manifest, sooner rather than later. E*trade stands a good chance of showing a profitable quarter sometime in 2009.
Things will get better. More and more talking about time to buy. My charting skills need some work.
If market is up tomorrow we should be good to go, chart looks primed for takeoff.

They are expecting 3.7 over next three years, but looks based also on a 27% increase. Now the math tells ya if all is accurate, they should have approx 4 million in revenue currently to gain that on a 27%increase in 3 years. 4 x 1.27 3 times = 3.6 additional = approx 7.6 in revenue by 2011. Overhead has to be nothing here, btw.
Very nice video, first it looked as if the two bucks were going to go after it. Then the missed opportunity for the doe/buck combo LOL Wow, havent had buck fever in a while. For those reading whom have never hunted that video camera alone in that situation is priceless. Old football coach use to call hunting "A high you cant buy" Pretty much sums it up.
Picked a good week to be gone btw...I am just watching mainly, but by golly the room is picking a few quick winners even in this messy market.
He is a young one, 29.eom
If your right then I own 1/25th of the company and many others here might own half the thing. lol If it is 25milliom, then wow! Not counting the chickens yet, though.
