I thought some one posted something from C-Net last week. And, the gist of the commentator's remarks was (WOW, is this thing for real?...Voice nav; 20 GB; USB; and on and on.)?...
The 0-1000 I played with at CES 2003 will give him "Poisitve" answers to all his questions...
I am sure he will write and all out great review also...

gernb1...Makes sense...
If they wanted time for signing up the 10,000-30,000 OEMS, before they started shipping the 0-1000, then this could be a signal that such a signing up has indeed taken place...
So, by next week we should have a PR on OEM situation, to drive the nail in the coffin of the doubting Thomas' who would pick on every word put out by the company to spin their negative tales...
Finally, RP is learning how to "sandbag" (as you put it) the negative spin masters on these boards...GRIN...

It is certain that 0-1000 shall topple TREO from that coveted spot. And, there will be raving reviews by d-music, etc., also...

The point of this exercise is to show that OEMS would be standing in line with their 10,000-to-30,000 orders for the same reasons that you, I, and every other Joe Consumer would be attracted to 0-1000, rather these "others" that we know are "raking in the dollars."...smile...

It makes sense, if there are "multiple OEMS" with whom EDIG is negotiating to the tune of 10,000-to-30,000 units each, and if Digital Way is already carnking out o-1000's to sell in EUROPE and ASIA, meeting any further demands for EDIG and its OEMS should not be a major problem...
More likly than not, we will have an announcement next week that will clear all possibilities speculated here...
Good luck to all...

3.5 years ago, when I first bought some EDIG shares, you had the ever expanding TECH BUBBLE, Al Gore was inventing the Internet, and Billy Gates was holding the Puck on the Larry King Show (I think that was the show) as a prelude to CES 2000.
At CES 2000, SAMSUNG, EDIG and DATA PLAY shared a "PAVILION", and EDIG showed the TREO, and pointed to SAMSUNG, TI, Toshiba, Hy-Tech, and DATA PLAY products, for the direction EDIG was going to go in the immediate future...
What followed is known to all, but through it we had tireless visionaries like cksla, who saw the car market for EDIG products, and there were those who outlined such markets as IFE for EDIG...
We have suffered through three years of incessant negative posts by those with alterior motives, deriding the worth of EDIG technology. Yet, WE ARE THERE...
Fugitsu Ten is there, and IS REAL. IFE is there, and IS REAL.
0-1000 is there, and IS REAL...
Those who have shown the fortitude to stick with this little company, shall be well rewarded in couple of years from now. And it is all HAPPENING before our eyes...

Of course what the Guardian is talking about, could be something U.S. is doing on purpose to spread "disinformation" to Ben Ladin and his cohorts?...
Think about the possibilities?...
If only EDIG could come up with an IFE device, which has a SAMSUNG itsy-bitsy camera unit, which has both audio and video transmission capability, attached to the upper right corner, and send that to Ben Ladin. Thus, whenever he turns it on to see a movie, he will be broadcasting his whereabouts...

The Genie is out of the box, and no matter how hard the Music Industry huffs and puffs, they can't stop the universal distribution of the music on the radio and internet...
In fact, most of them are hard at work at present trying to figure out a way to do just that, supplying music for the wider distribution than the antiquated current methods of selling tapes, CDs, and radio top 40...
I saw an interview last week with the new incoming CEO chosen for the Sony records...
He essentially said so much as the wider distribution of music justifies, and will compensate, for the losss of "Control" of music through the currently established methods. And, that the only issue was one of "secure Distribution" which would reasonably compensate the artists for their intellectual property rights...
In dash recording of the music on the airwaves falls in the same class as you being able to record "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly", when it is being shown on your T.V. by the channel
labled "MOVIES FOR GUYS". It does not raise any issues that can
be successfly litigated by the Music Industry...

The question still remains, which portal player chipset they are using, which gives them the ability to claim their unit can be made multi-codec operational?...

Tenderloin...
What peeked my interest in GPX 900 is the fact that if you look under "FEATURES", the second item reads, MP3,WMA and "future formats"...
It would be nice to find out how they plan to do this?...
For example, are they using a TI platform with Mos on it which gives them the ability to make such claim? Or, are they planning to increase the size of their hard disk to accomodate
other formats in the future?...
We already know that MOS is not needed when making MP3 players that play the two formats, MP3 and WMA...
We also know that the TI platform is out there, and can be bought by OEMS such as BANTAM to make widgets for their customers...
We also know, from Creative's experience, that making MP3 players based on hard disk technology with multi codec capability makes them bulky and not that competitive in a market where small is a big selling point...
So, we are left with the two options:
1) BANTAM is using a TI platform for the 900 which gives them
the ability to make the claim their uint can be multi-codec operational...
2) They have developed the technology that can do what MOS does...
My guess...The unit is a "clone" of 0-1000...
Regards...Gilgamash...
LL...YES...PMS...Lol...
Regards...Gilgamash...
friendlfred...You are right too.
The distinction is as follows:
1) OEMS ordering 0-1000, paying all costs relating to manufacturing, etc., and paying EDIG "Royalty", in which case the payments to EDIG are in the $8-14 per unit; or,
2) OEMS PLAYING AS "Customers", ordering 0-1000 in the 10,000 to 30,000 per order with their name "branded" on it, in which case EDIG won't do it for less than 20% per unit, and payment to be made at delivery, and not the time the unit is sold off the shelves...
Regards...Gilgamash...
In either case, things are looking up substantially, so long as this group pays attention to Wendy's disclaimers given at the start of CC, which is "All best laid plans of mice and men oft go astry."...Lol...
accipter...
My recollection is around 20% or better...That was the number bandied about when EDIG changed direction and went back to the old business plan, rather then dealing with Retailers, who could not commit to that number...
Regards...Gilgamash...
p.s.
Couple of OEMS, each ordering 10,000-to-30,000 units, means
20,000 to 60,000 units. Multiply by $80 a unit, voila, you have revenues of $1,600,000.00 to $4,800,000.00 million from
0-1000 alone...NOT BAD...NOT BAD...

May be the person who bought Open Globe is the same investment banker who bought Data Play, and will make something of merging the two...
As to them being "Significant Competition", I merely note that they are gone, even though lyra has been around for years as you note, and EDIG is just picking up OEMS who are interested in 0-1000 to the tune of initial orders of 10,000-to-30,000...
I rest my case...

One logical explanation of that comment could be that 0-1000 had a "familial" relationship with those two units he mentioned. Thus, he was telling you something, he could not openly say till Samsung and Toshiba decided to disclose said fact...
Cheers...
Regards...Gilgamash...
lickly...
Lyra unit is hardly significant competition...
Lyra unit is probably made by Open Globe, an engineering firm who was around as far back as CES 2000...
Although, the DAP market did not develope as EDIG had hoped,(multicodec operational units, which originally were selling as high as $1500.00 dollars), thus allowing customers like RCA to approach Open Globe for design of their Lyra units, there is still no indication that Open Globe has evolved into a serious compitition with the direction EDIG has taken...
As far as YEPP-900 is concerned, with all that has been said about it on this board, no one has convinced me that EDIG has nothing to do with it. It is too dang simillar to 0-1000, and EDIG's relationship with SAMSUNG is long standing and continues to this date...
