Tim~HEC~is this suspicious?
Dec 19, 2006 -- Harken Energy Corporation (AMEX:HEC - News) (incorporated in the State of Delaware in the United States of America) announced that it has acquired 2,600,000 common shares and 1,300,000 warrants to acquire common shares of Spitfire Energy, Ltd. (TSX VENTURE:SEL.V - News) ("Spitfire") through a private placement for investment purposes. Subsequent to the issuance of these shares, these common share holdings will represent approximately 9.0% of the newly outstanding Spitfire common shares (12.92% assuming exercise of the warrants).
Note that the "cost" for that position is missing? I assume a discount to the market on this thinly traded TSX issue?
Spitfire Energy Ltd. is a junior oil and gas company engaged in the exploration, development and production of natural gas and crude oil reserves. Spitfire's common shares trade on the TSX Venture Exchange under the symbol "SEL".

Third quarter fiscal 2007 highlights
- Spitfire continued to climb in the first nine months of fiscal 2007, achieving record production, revenue and cash flow. Compared with the same period in fiscal 2006, average production increased 112% to 278 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed), oil and gas revenues increased 104% to $3.6 million and cash flow from operations increased 60% to $973,000.
- Spitfire recently conducted a swab test on a well in which it owns an 84% working interest for a period of 12.5 hours over two days. The Company recovered 27.14 cubic meters of oil and 9.8 cubic meters of water (net of load fluid) representing an oil cut of 73% and 13.7 barrels of oil per hour. Based on this test, the daily rate extrapolates to 329 bopd (277 net boed). The well is currently being connected to Spitfire's facility and production will commence in a few days. Stabilized production rates are expected to be lower than the test rate.
- Spitfire participated in six (4.34 net) wells so far this fiscal year, resulting in two gas wells and one oil well for a success rate of 50%. Two additional wells have been surveyed and are awaiting partner approval.
- Spitfire's January 2007 production was 345 boed, with productive capability in excess of 400 boed, consisting of 70% crude oil. Approximately 35 bopd has come from a new pool in Verlo, Saskatchewan that commenced production in August and stabilized in the third quarter after producing a small associated gas cap. Another 53 boed has come from two wells drilled in Pakowki, Alberta in the first quarter and put on production in the third quarter of fiscal 2007.
Tim~HEC~came up on one of my watch lists in the last few days but slipped through my DD cracks!
...reported its annual financial results for the year ended December 31, 2006. Harken's strategy is to enhance value for its stockholders through the development of a well-balanced portfolio of energy-based assets. Harken's Gulf Coast oil and gas assets and its coalbed methane prospects provide a large inventory of both high and low-risk exploitation projects and high-potential exploration opportunities. To develop these assets, in 2006, Harken invested approximately $10.9 million and $1.0 million, respectively, of capital expenditures into its Gulf Coast oil and gas properties and coalbed methane prospects.
$10.9M = "high" risk? or = "high & "low" risk? (Gulf Coast oil and gas properties)
$1M = "low" risk? or = "high-potential exploration opportunities" (coalbed methane prospects)
How do you read it?
tia
I *hope* they are not investing 10.9M in "High" risk Gulf Coast oil and gas properties <vBg>

EZ~ICON~IMO folks sell their winners to lock in gains when a market (volatile) like this casts doubts on the near term.
I'm trying to figure it out (selling) also. The ONLY thing I can surmise is the age old "buy on rumor / sell on news" as it sold off in HEAVY volume on a day with HUGE news....
Then again, margin calls elsewhere might have forced some to be unwilling sellers?
In any event, you have reason to be confident ... DD will do that for ya <g>
Your buy & hold philosophy IMO should not be tested

Got back 18% yesterday but it's that 82% that's missing (went up in smoke lol) that pains me lol If it weren't for SYTE.ob I wouldn't even be doing close to yesterday's gain today... one hour of trading left... maybe we'll see some of that fence sitting money come out to play?
think we will see another shake in the next couple weeks, imo

Yes, I called them and they placed the order for me. They had no explanation as to why they would no longer allow RITT to be traded online. Is there any trading today?
If similar to my AATK example you should find this to be a temporary thing. They apparently review trades and place some issues under a "watch".
I have no reason to suspect RITT of being a "problem" issue

Called them to find they have a risk management division that singles out stocks that might be under some sort of manipulation but can't see that being the reason with RITT. Ameritrade took the trade over the phone at the same fees as if it were on line so no harm just a hassle.

EZ~I thought it was the other way around. ...Obviously lol
My bad.
I guess it was the fact it was followed by "voluntary" (withdrawn) ... quickly assumed that meant it was still on the table as it were.
with prejudice: the term, as applied to judgment of dismissal, is as conclusive of rights of parties as if action had been prosecuted to final adjudication adverse to the plaintiff
without prejudice: a dismissal "without prejudice" allows a new suit to be brought on the same cause of action
I always seem to get these two confused lol
At least the market seemed to "get it" <vBg>

Lost another $8K "on paper" yesterday.......starting to get a bit itchy !!! And....losses once again across the board (with one exception mentd' earlier ie. ICON). NOT a pretty picture! ASIA up overnight... maybe today brings some GREEN!?!?
Even NEW was UP 12% today. So much for the CCC rating. There must be a ton of money on the side lines. Now only 30 points (DOW) away from being back to even for '07!
I'm not complaining, don't get me wrong. Happy for you guys and thinking my holdings will shine (someday) lol
speaking of shinning.... good report on CNBC about Ted Turner investing in solar energy and other "chip" makers getting into solar as a diversified use of their existing facilities. I guess silicon is Silicon <g>
wOw... they are finally seeing "da lite"
Maybe that will help WWAT.ob ramp up their business plan with an eye on the larger projects. CNBC also mentioned one of the factors in Turner's interest was California's $3B subsidy program.

Tim/skeballlarry~interesting day! ...if things continue, Tim, $7.15 won't be seen in awhile lol
As for this PR... note that;
dismissing with prejudice the in-custody death product liability lawsuit filed by the estate of Lewis Sanks King, Plaintiff, against TASER International, Inc. This is the thirty-fifth wrongful death or injury lawsuits that has been dismissed or judgment entered in favor of TASER International. TASER has not lost any product liability lawsuit.
``This voluntary dismissal validates our strong tactic of rigorously defending our technology and our track record speaks volumes,'' commented Doug Klint, Vice President and General Counsel of TASER International.
soooooo, it can be filed again and is not off the table yet. It appears the plaintiff decided to "punt" and unknown if gone for good IMO
GL and nice to see TASR participating in the upswing in the market.

S&P cuts New Century to "CCC" on criminal inquiry
Mon Mar 5, 2007 6:18 PM ET
NEW YORK, March 5 (Reuters) -Standard & Poor's on Monday cut its ratings on New Century Financial Corp. deeper into junk status, and may cut them again, citing concerns about the mortgage servicer's ability to cope with financial and reputation stress arising from a criminal investigation.
The company is being investigated in connection with trades in the company's stock and the company's accounting errors relating to allowance for loan repurchases.
"The investigation and the damage it might do to the company's reputation create concern about New Century's ability to maintain its warehouse lending lines, which are necessary to fund mortgage originations," S&P said.
S&P cut New Century's corporate credit rating by three notches to "CCC," eight levels below investment grade, from "B".

Brocade Turns the Corner
http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2007/02/28/brocade-turns-the-corner.aspx
Anders Bylund
February 28, 2007
Storage networking specialist Brocade (Nasdaq: BRCD) just reported a very strong quarter, with 32% year-over-year revenue growth and three times the earnings. What's more, these are organic growth numbers, by and large. Brocade has bought a few businesses over the past year, but none large enough to have a meaningful impact on sales or earnings so soon.
I won't be able to say that when the next quarterly report comes around, though. The McDATA acquisition, which closed right at the end of this reporting period, will bring in plenty of fresh revenues, though it will drag down Brocade's impressive profit margins somewhat. McDATA's product catalog doesn't overlap a great deal with Brocade's, so the combined company will have a much wider reach than either of the two components.
Already, the competition is starting to look nervous. QLogic (Nasdaq: QLGC) just teamed up with Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ) to produce a new virtual fiber channel storage connector technology. That's OK -- strong competition forces businesses to stay focused and innovative if they want to survive.
Brocade management is boasting that its service certification leads computer professionals to the highest salaries in the support industry. On top of that, it just signed global service agreements with both IBM (NYSE: IBM) and Network Appliance (Nasdaq: NTAP) to ensure that those partners' storage-hungry customers have access to that expensive but critical support, whenever and wherever they need it.
Management is starting to build some serious business momentum here. New customers lead to more profit, which gives Brocade some freedom to spend on its future and generate even more of that tasty growth. Like I said, this company is hungry for acquisitions that make sense, but it is also ramping up R&D spending and capital expenditures like never before. And armed with the albatross-like wingspan those McDATA laddies brought in, this is a dangerous competitor now -- even to giants like JDS Uniphase (Nasdaq: JDSU), Hewlett-Packard, or Cisco (Nasdaq: CSCO) -- and well worth keeping an eye on.
Fool contributor Anders Bylund holds no position in any of the companies discussed here, dang it. You can check out Anders' holdings if you like, and Foolish disclosure takes up almost no space at all on your hard drive.

Lamperd Less Lethal - Update on FTS Simulation System
Monday March 5, 2:37 pm ET
SARNIA, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Lamperd Less Lethal Inc. (OTCBB:LLLI - News; "Lamperd"). After a meeting with Canadian government and US Embassy Officials held January 2007 in Ottawa, it became very clear that training for police and Military are on the top of everyone's list, especially with the use of simulators.
One of the reasons is a report that had come out called the effectiveness of use of force simulation training. Because of this report and our FTS simulation system display, our booth was the most attended at this function, and this brought numerous requests to bring our system to the government agency locations to present to the buyers both in Canada and the US. We have recently been receiving orders for our FTS simulation system due to our success from the show.

nice to just be sitting here and watching. I think I'll wait for a few more days.
You seem to be in the majority ... many fence sitters out there. When (if?) that money piles in there should be a lot of unhappy shorters in this market. I've never been good with my market timing so for me it is best to be in the market if I remain of the opinion, which I do, that this is getting to be a very cheap market in which to invest.
It will be interesting to see where the last minute IRA money is banked. Something tells me the dry ammo will be come out and be used in the near term (10-45 days) don't you?

Your bating average imHo is fantastic allowing for the occasional strike out <g>
Counted my trades so far this year- 22 trades- only one that I lost money on (USO), so as long as Mr. Market decides he got enough pain this week, should be ok <g>.
...21 base hits (or better WWAT.ob lol) out of 23 at bats is a major league success. How many (I'm on this list) are envious of a 91+% record of profitable trades? You're allowed a PLUGing every now and then lol
Ya know, your entry timing has been pretty accurate. I would take a look, however, at your history of leaving $$ on the table by early departures jmo... I'm holding awhile longer (PLUG and unfortunately many others <g>)
Not ready to capitulate just yet. Congrats to you for staying with your plan. I think there is still money to be made but you have to be patient. If PLUG had dropped another 15% today I would have been beating a path to the exit door that you would have been holding open for me <g>
