It's a generic message any time there's an error. The error gets logged along with whatever information I can coax out of the box at the time. The link to PM me is if there's anything "extra" you want to tell me that might help to understand what happened.
Obviously, if it's a network issue you're not going to be able to PM me, but it's used for other things as well.
The count should be right now.
I was thinking of a much shorter, monosyllabic response. But your response was more eloquent. And polite ;)
Wow! Do you happen to have a spare "Mr. Fusion" too?
Changed.
Well, yes, but my time machine is up on blocks in my front yard at the moment. I'm working on the transmission...
White is #ffffff
WEB2 is out of the loop at the moment.
It shouldn't need correction. "www.investorshub.com" and "investorshub.com" both resolve to the same IP address.
Either one will work.
Which board?
Hit "Refresh" on your browser. CSS changes get cached very aggressively by most browsers.
The hover effect is not tied to the display of the Finance toolbar.
As I explained on the Q&A board, it's an inactivity timer, but if one of us is working on a server, you may occasionally be forced to another server. If you don't have the cookie set, you will be logged off.
Sorry I missed your post earlier ;)
Depending on what day it was, it could have been when Dave and I were moving servers around. I can tell the load balancer to switch people away from a server if I need to. I try to avoid that, but sometimes it's necessary to fix something.
It shouldn't, Phil. Each time you interact with the server, the timer is reset. It's an inactivity timeout.
What post? Got a link?
Do you keep the box checked to create the cookie? Otherwise, it might be that the load balancer shifted you to a different server. Without getting too geekish in the explanation, if there's no cookie, the new server wouldn't know that you're logged in.
Were you actively reading messages or were you logged in and then were inactive for a lengthy period of time? If the cookie isn't set, the session times out at 60 minutes and requires you to log in again.
Very cute! I've worked at places where that was true. Except for the nude part ;)
Are you doing something to delete your cookies?
When you log in and have the box checked to "Keep me logged in", it sets a cookie on your machine. IH sees that cookie and knows who you are. If the cookie is deleted, IH requires you to log in again.
Just ask. What boards?
I made changes to post_new and post_reply to limit suspended users to 3 posts in Jail. Let me know if you see any unwanted side effects...
Ah good. The rats in solitary were awaiting you otherwise.
Nope, posting limits
I'd forgotten about board.asp. Mailbox doesn't refresh though.
The first two items on My Settings control that behavior.
You'll only get the sound if you're on the Favorites page.
IE7 is not an operating system but thanks for at least trying to answer my question ;) Try setting a mail sound now and tell me if you're still getting the same behavior.
Apparently this is a result of an update that Microsoft made on April 2 that's fallout from them losing a patent fight with Eolas. As a result, you now have to do a silly work around for something that used to be very straightforward.
Ah, very helpful thanks. Give it a try now and see if it works correctly for you.
A ghost from registration past. It's safe to leave it blank.
Your Peruvian cartel connections were probably safe enough. If you'd have filled in the information you would have helped make the db a little more accurate. As I said this is a "open source" database, not a commercial one.
From the "About" page on that site:
Where the data comes from
There are two sources of IP-address data
* When people are good enough to identify their city, it is stored in the DB and associated with the /24 they are currently using. This is obviously the best info. source.
* There are (currently 10) robots on the server, tracerouting to IP addresses within /24's that we haven't yet identified. There are then several hundred regular-expression rules (from sarangworld) which match parts of the names detected to countries/cities..
I'll take a stab at explaining how it was probably done. The link shows that it goes to an image, but it's really going to a program that generates an image. When you surf a website, the website knows your IP address. There are things called geotargetting databases that are used to look up your IP and determine where it's coming from. These are usually commercial databases but free ones are available. Here's a link to an "open source" geotargetting database:
http://www.hostip.info/
Anyway, from your IP address, the program can determine what town you're from and draw that on the image before returning it to you to be displayed in your browser.
Weird. Here's what I see:
1 BigHub.com, Inc. (BHUB) 46752
2 Techlabs Inc (TELA) 13682
3 ETERNAL IMAGE INC (ETIM) 9099
For me, Firefox uses a Quicktime plugin to play .wav files. Try installing Quicktime (the free version is on the left):

I have a user who is having problems with playing the new mail sounds on Ihub. He or she is using IE7 and gets prompted to accept an ActiveX control every time. I can't duplicate his problem. Have any of you experienced the same problem with IE7 on IHub?

A further clarification on ActiveX. ActiveX is Microsoft only technology. If we coded for ActiveX, we would be leaving out Firefox, Opera, Safari, and several other browsers.
We use the EMBED tag which works for everyone. Microsoft's dialog box says ActiveX because that's what IE is using internally.
Speaking of Firefox, you might want to give that a try. All the "new" user interface things in IE7 are really just playing catch-up to Firefox anyway - you might like it better. I personally find it to be less prone to problems.
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
i thought you repeatedly have told me IHUb does not use activeX
And it doesn't. ActiveX would be using the OBJECT tag which says explicitly what program to use to play the sound. EMBED says use whatever you want. A subtle difference I suppose.
The setting in question is not being remembered on your installation of IE7, not something IHub related.
What operating system are you using?
