Any one having problems thios am with loading charts?
Looks like we are down again
Annotation now working..must have been a temporary SC issue.
Problems with annotating charts.
I'm having problems loading annoatated charts this morning. I get a message that says:
There was an error loading the image: java.netSocketException: Connection reset.
I have tried a reboot and I passed all of SC's Java tests.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
Canadian Dollar up 177%
According to $cdw. Just when I need the info it is gobblygook
Working on and off. Current not working.
Charts are not loading
Stockcharts were having problems but they have been corrected.
I spoke too soon...signed on this morning and I am getting the big red X on annotated charts.
Maybe it is because I have just renewed my subscription!
We are down again.
Yes we are down. The system was also chaotic yesterday. I just started to get comfortable with the lack of problems...hope its not the "same old" again.
The subject of their data feed service provider problems appears to be an ongoing issue. I sense the current relationship between SC and Thomson is very strained and given the number of legal agreements in the supply chain from the exchanges to SC, I would guess that everyone is working by the book.
I did a very unscientfic study on Prophet.com who I have been told, are SC's immediate competition. Prophet get their data from Reuters and so does my broker E trade. Their worst case downtime is ~ 24 hours...an extremely rare occurrence I might add. Usually it is just a couple of minutes.
Clearly Stockcharts know what they are doing when it comes to their part of the supply chain. The issue appears to be their ability to manage their vendors. If GM had a parts issue with a vendor resulting in the inability to produce their cars we know what the customers would do.
I am uncomfortable with the need for SC to bare their soul in the explanation given to us. Their performance at the end of the day is not acceptable. Nothing in their explanation makes me feel there will be any changes...it appears that they (and us) have a very unpredictable situation on their hands. Customers will have to either put up with it or seek alternatives.
I appreciate Cush putting up with some venting on his forum. We all know it is useless communicating with SC...there is however some relief in being able to voice an opinion here.
These long term SC crashes have cost me a lot of money and it is time to have a back up and another service to evaluate. It is incredible that a data services company goes down for days...this absolutely does not happen in other computer data organizations unless they are about to go out of business. The most Reuters ever goes down is a few hours. E'trade charting services has never gone down to my knowledge same with AlphaTrade.
I would seriously consider switching permanently if the reliability is better...even without the extra SC features.
Has anyone tried other charting services? Would appreciate any ideas
Alphatrade is very reliable but expensive and very short on features.
Big Charts...free but far to much spam and limited features.
Cheers
Suggest they change their data suppliers. Companies like Alphatrade and Reuters have chart services 10 times more reliable than Stockcharts.
Down again
Re: Managing Information
I used to have an SC list for every sector and in some cases subsectors (like mining). The problem was managing the information between the sector, holdings and watch lists. It became too complicated and time consuming and was leading to dementia. A few years ago I embarked on an aggressive KISS project for my trading activities to drastically improve productivity. I eventually decided on a single "A" list with each stock prefixed with a simple sector code eg:
ura cco which is uranium sector cco.to (Cameco) company
min cu pcr mining copper subsector pcr.to
ene san su energy oil sands subsector su.to
The advantage of this method is my A list sorts itself by sector and subsector automatically. I usually have no more than about 90 stocks. I use favorites to give me a candleglance view, summary view by symbol and edit view which covers 90% of my requirements.
I have sneaked back to my old method a couple of times...I am a perpetual tinkerer...and tried other systems but always came back to this one which has greatly improved productivity and reduced confusion.
Another issue was the security of keeping my notes and dd in the StockCharts comments. I have wiped out these notes 3 times!!! Either thru stupidity or during some major SC feature change...I am not blaming SC. I now have my notes in excel spreadsheets under a folder for each A list stock...backed up weekly.
This may all sound very analll, but managing information on ones holdings and opportunities is second only to money management in successful trading..IMHO
Now we are down again
Days and days of this poor performance stuff from SC. When is it going to end...I'm getting sick of it.
Yes it has been painfully slow all last week...happens as soon as the market opens. Also the streaming update feature drops out all the time...very frustrating.
Same old customer service.
Correction nothing is working,
Here we go again....how about some basic customer service SC?
Intra-day is working....day is not
I'm down
Quasi. Simcoe County? Send me a PM if you like.
Let's face it, we just don't know what the situation is. I'm sure Cush has the real information...for whatever reason he wishes not to share it.
When customer service is non-existant, it is often the case that the business involved has a product or service that cannot be matched by anyone else. There is simply no incentive for them to change. Unfortunate but that is the way things work.
Quote.com, BC charts and others mentioned here just have no comparison... simply a waste of time mentioning them.
If anyone knows of a comparable site equal to or better than the "Extra, Real Time" members features, please be so kind as to identify them.
Thank you.
Alphatrade. Stockcharts have 5min charts also, but I find their refresh system useless and unreliable. Alphatrade is geared to streaming charts and when I used to use them they were quite reliable. Customer service was excellent...that is by phone. I switched back to SC to force myself to stop daytrading. Daytrading did not work for me.
Down again
Positive whine:
Fast and reliable system for the past week.
I'm having numerous loading problems with SC since yesterday. Support is also turned off or only occasionally available.
Lightning fast this morning
Hi Cush:
I do certainly appreciate the time and effort that you put into this forum. I also know that SC monitor your forum. I also realise that your relationship is very close to SC and that it would appear that you have difficulty sometimes in accepting there are issues at SC that a growing number of their clients are frustrated with.
I am a full time trader and believe me I only have the time to "whine" when there is an actual problem.
My "whining" is in fact truths associated with ongoing problems at SC in regards to their very poor customer service in keeping us informed. I believe also that when I post an issue it might help others confirm if there is a problem.
I hope you are able to see a "non-party line " point of view and trust you will continue to be tolerant and support this forum.
I have also had this Java problem for days. Just wish SC would fess up.
I believe there was a new Java update on 24 Sept...is this the problem?
Charts are only updating after I hit refresh about 75% of the time.. (Please do not delete this post)
Charts no longer update until you hit refresh
My keyboard entry now beats the system so I have to slow down otherwize I get an error message (Java I think). I assume SC realize this. Severe productivity decline for me.
When will Stockcharts correct this very slow and no loading problem?
They have passed the buck.
Down again.
