Somehow, I posted the following message on the VPLM board!
LOOP; I hope you are well. I am concerned by M3S's post asking if anybody has seen you lately.
I have been missing from this board for many years now as explained in my earlier message. I was visiting just for old times' sake but, when I saw how well the stock is doing, I have decided to place some trades. My newest options strategy is built around straddles at earning time. For IDCC I am thinking of buying 145 strike Nov calls and 135 strike puts with the same expiration date.
Since I am basically ignorant about the recent performance of the stock, I think I will wait a while to place the trades. Do you have any insights into the stock?
Possible changes in my trades. Use December expiration instead of Nov. This variation costs a little more. but it does protect against a delayed reaction to good (or bad news.
Reverse the call and put strike prices: buy $145 puts and 135 calls. MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE initially, but increases chan es of being in the money at or even before expiration.
Thanks, my3s.
thanks, my3s. I cannot think of anybody better to bring me up to speed!
Hello GUYS! I just dropped in for old times' sake. I am sooo glad that most of the old crew is still around- I have already sen Manx read the newest posts by Vegas, amr, bagerkid and my3s. I am so gad that the stock has been doing well, I have been so involved in my current investments (primarily TSLA<, META, AAPL, and NVDA) that I have not been checking up on IDCC. When I saw its current valuation at about $140, I was just blown away, it has been doing really, really well, The 5-year chart shows, that the stock has been on fire lately, ever since. actually a month or tewo before it FINALLY crossed $100 convincingly, unlike the previous two times. The convincing cross of $100 occurred in April this year. BUT prior to that there were momentous rises on two days,. While I could find out what caused those precipitous rises by research, (mainly online), I am sure somebody on thus board can enlighten me from his or her memory. I would rather go that route. REmEMBER NAME FROM MY DAYS AS LA-IDCC-FAN!
INVEST your cash before ROBOTAXI rollout!
Well, there's always tomorrow!
Today's trading makes me happy. It is not ringing too many alarm bells at shorting headquarters at Yahoo and CNBC either, because ALL the storiesd on Yahoo have reasonable headlines, and most are bullish!
What time today do you reckon we will go over Thursday's closing price of $230 and change? I am going to guess at about 3 pm.
Heaven forbid!
Boston, do you still feel the same way after version 12.1.5? If Tesla is a scam, why does Elon work SO hard at improving its cost structure? Why do you think Elon pushes back dates of events? Do you think the recent delay of 2 months in the robotaxi reveal schedule was only in order to implement a change to the front of the design of the robotaxi?
WELL SAID!
A DOWN day followed by a somewhat UP day will NOT cut it. WE have to return to the prevailing pattern of down followed by UP.
Exactly what I thought. However, that was before today's open! Currently TSLA is DOWN just under $15!
chk: I fully understand your frustration. Fortunately my fsd, now up to 12.5.1, runs fine on m HW4 car. I was just notified that 12.5.3 is now installed on my car. Neo word yet on the latest upgrade.
IF you do. you ain't seen nothin' yet!!
chk: TSLA opened at 217.85 on Monday morning. It closed on Friday evening at 220.89. Is that what you consider "a high rate of speed"?
I am very interested in your price target on TSLA, and how you estimate it. Keep in mind that TSLA has not made much profit over the years. Here are the last five years EPS.
2019: (0.33)
2020: 0.21
2021: 1.63
2022: 3.62
2023: 4.30
The eps figures ate taken from. https://www.wsj.com/market-data/quotes/TSLA/financials/annual/income-statement and are based on fully diluted number of shares. Current P/E forward = 69, current P/E (back) = 61.8 (forward/P/E > back P/E shows negative growth).
Typical P/Es for Auto companies: GM about 6, Ford: about 7, STLS: about. 8 Toyota about 9; MB, BMW about 4-5. VW<4.
See https://companiesmarketcap.com/automakers/automakers-ranked-by-pe-ratio/
Did you take action after the double top breakout or were you waiting for the triple top breakout>
Isn't that exactly what shorts do?
George, please elaborate. Why? Is that your gut speaking or do you know something?
JJ: You still think fundamentals matter much less than technical factors?
YUP! No place for weak stomachs!
Geirge, do you have any specifics information about why you said 3 pm?
Has anybody noticed how even on days where TSLA is down substantially in pre-market trading, it usually manages to find its way into positive territory?
Yes. Indeed with the market not helping AT ALL.
Hey Moon
Welcome back. I saw your posts earlier but have not been able to reply because of an issue woth my account.
I see that you are still basically a technician. Do you think the recent rally in the stock was because of technical factors alone?
As you know I think that fundamentals actually control. However, the push required can vary based on technicals. Do you think that now momentum is sufficient to carry the stock for a day, at least?
Monica, i hope you accumulate as many as you can; however, use ONLY money that you do not expect to need for at least 5 years.
I had an end-of-June deadline to get my margin account down to reasonable levels.
I accepted the challenge. Mainly because I agreed with her. Unfortunately the ONLY way to reduce my margin was to sell ALL of my unencumbered TSLA stock so I put in sell orders The majority of my sales were at $195 with a smaller number getting me $215.
I think that is enough. Going forward. I will be more careful. My darling wife keeps reminding me of the fact that we will never run out of money. And our children are well-settled. The ONLY reason I still trade is that it is so easy to make money, given our clueless. And it gives me something to do,
You better believe it! How could that company which should be priced as an auto company keep this up?
Not as nice as $1000 on the non-split basis, i.e, $333
That makes at least 2 of us!
Oh no! Another technicals believer!
Even the most bearish analysts KNOW that. The problem is: How can you model unknown cash flows in a defensible manner?
I do not think that having FSD installed gives you the option to activate, or not..
Crudeoil: while your post captures the past fairly well, you are ignoring two vital factors;
1, past performance is no guarantee for the future
2. How can an analyst capture the impact of brand new technology?
Please focus on point number 2. In my opinion, every model I see of TSLA in 2025
and later, even the ARK model, is based on wild-ass guesses. How can anybody put numbers on a concept? I think even the most bearish analysts realize (whether they are allowed to broadcast it or not) that TSLA is more than just an auto company. For instance Toni Sacconaghi’s target price estimate was lowered in March from $150 to $120. If you were to use a p/e of , say Toyota, the price target should be no more than (8.24 times projected TSLA earnings for 2025) i.e 8.24 x 2.22 = $18!!
The lowest price target on TSLA that I can find today is $22, about 1/8 th of current price yet the consensus analyst recommendation on TSLA is BUY!
Chk: actually I am hoping for some fireworks at the 2nd quarter earnings call which is in July
Diamond: i am willing to bet anybody that we see $2,600 in 3 years,
Psst. Don’t give away the secret just yet!
JJ: coming from you, that post was a stunner. Not exactly bearish, is it?
Does anybody know what happened at 9:30 to TSLA?
Hi boston, i should know better! BUT every time I read your nonsense, I feel compelled to respond.
Sorry here goes.
As a person of science, I am truly astonished that you believe,
