I found out : if buy 2 days before the ex-dividend date will receive dividend payout
Difference between the ex-dividend date and record date
As explained above, the ex-dividend date is the date on which the cutoff point for a pending stock dividend happens. If you have bought a stock one day before the ex-dividend date, you will be eligible to get the dividend amount. However, if you buy the stock on the ex-dividend date or after the ex-dividend date, you won’t be eligible to receive the dividend. Furthermore, if you want to receive the dividend and still sell the shares, you can only sell the stocks after the ex-dividend date.
On the other hand, the record date is the date on which the company identifies and makes a list of all the current shareholders. On this day, it determines the individuals who are eligible to receive the dividend amount. If you are not holding the shares on this date, you will not receive the announced dividends. As SEBI follows a T+2 settlement process, you need to buy the shares of a company at least three days before the record date or two days before the ex-dividend date.
Buying shares: Before the ex-dividend date or after the ex-dividend date?
Suppose a company has announced that it will be paying dividends in the coming months. Your aim is to make profits based on the offered dividend amount. However, you realise that you missed the ex-dividend date and can no longer be eligible for the dividend amount. What can you do now?
If you have missed the ex-dividend date, there is not much that you have missed regarding the short term profit. It is because the shares of a company decline by the value of the dividend offered by the company. For example, if the company’s share price was Rs 500, and it announced a Rs 30 dividend per share, its share price will decline by Rs 30 after the ex-dividend date. Now, you can realise the same profit as you would have with the dividend amount.
Importance of ex-dividend date
As the stock loses its dividend value after the ex-dividend date, the days before the date are very important for the company and its investors. Before the day, the stocks carry the value of the dividend, meaning that it has the potential to offer profits to anyone who buys the shares in the coming days before the ex-dividend date.
Due to this benefit, the stock prices increase based on the rupee value of the announced dividend. If the stock price crosses the dividend value, it makes up for a profit-making good opportunity for current investors. Hence, the ex-dividend date offers the dual benefit of temporary capital appreciation and the promise to receive the dividend on the payable date.
Final word
The ex-dividend date is a vital factor for investors who want to manage and adjust their holdings. Furthermore, the ex-dividend date also allows investors who want to make quick profits to identify the right time to buy the shares of the company that has announced a dividend payout.
Once you know the ex-dividend date, you make an investment strategy, buy shares of such companies, and sell them after you have received the dividend account. However, this transaction needs a Demat and trading account. You can open a free Demat and trading account by visiting the IIFL website or downloading the IIFL Markets app from the app store to begin your trading journey.

its been explained to you, in simple terms if you didnt buy ZIM by the 22nd you dont get the dividend
capiche!
I found this online called ‘ due bill’ do not know which one right , complicated ?
On the other hand, if a buyer purchases a stock on or before the ex-dividend date, they would be entitled to the dividend, but if they are not listed as the owner on the record date, the seller would receive the dividend on the payment date. Since the buyer is the rightful recipient of the dividend, the seller would issue a due bill to the buyer. This due bill entitles the rights of ownership to the buyer, even though the buyer has not yet been listed as the shareholder of record.
A due bill protects the stock's buyer, making sure the rights of ownership is established, regardless of whether the buyer has been listed yet as the shareholder of record.
What Is the Due Bill Period?
Suppose a stock is planning to issue a regular quarterly dividend. A list of stockholders of record who will receive the dividend is prepared on the record date. The ex-date is set (usually two days earlier) for when shares will trade on the open market without the right to the dividend. The period beginning on the record date and usually ending two days later (four days after the earlier ex-date) is when the identities of the holders of record are known and payment is due to them. This is known as the due bill period, during which remittances to investors are due after the stockholders of record are established.

Thanks
correct, the 4th is the X date
with the 2 day settlement rule you would have had to buy them by the 22nd to be on record on the 24th
buying them on the 23rd doesnt count, hence no dividend
If I am not mistaken you will also have to hold your shares until after 4/4 to be paid the dividend.
So if I bought my shares on 03/23 but sell out today someone bought my shares will qualify for dividend payout or not ?
Thanks
No, you had to be on record of owning shares by 3/24.
Question : if I buy ZIM shares by 03/30/2023 , 03/31/2023 or 04/03/2023
Will I get paid or no ?
Thanks
Theyve only been a public company since 2018
You need to research their past history. They have been doing this for a long time
There is a LOT of confusion about this dividend on Twitter, most people have no clue how this one works. Now will ZIM keep up this scharade with the next 3 quarterlies divy's, that remains to be seen. The less money they dole out the more they get to keep.
Tricky , Thanks
Gotta be on record of owning ZIM by the 24th, with the 2 day settlement rule, that means you gotta own it by the 22nd to qualify for the dividend. If you sell ZIM before the x date April 4th, you dont get the dividend.
Tricky
Will find out 03/21 03/22 more banks will go under FDIC and investors keep selling banks stock : all banks stock loss 50 value since 2022 remember 2008 banks crisis :

Short seller will take all banks down , shareholders will sell stocks to protect their assets if fed raise rate next meeting
Feds going to continue to raise rates, GLTY with ZIM, but with softening demand, daily rates will suffer
$15 way oversold or undervalue , ZIM will hit $30 by 03/24 plus Fed will pause or cut rates won’t see $24

next dividend is June/July?
new annual lows coming imo
I understand it just fine, Last years dividend was OVER $30.00 bucks, 2023's dividend is $16.00 bucks
get it
Don't understand the cut dividend ? The dividend is $6.40 with a ex-dividend date of April 4th.
ZIM was trading at $91.00 a year ago, with Bidenomics cratering global economies reducing the amount of trade, ZIM printed $16.00's as its low. The $15.00's or below seem reasonable with a cut dividend
the "decreased" dividends will continue, meaning after this divy is paid we'll be able to Buy ZIM in the $15.00 range or lower, yes?
A analyst advised the ZIM CEO on a conference call that they could better use the money that went for dividends to buy back sZIM shares of stock. The CEO listened, then said, "Yes, we could" but hesitated and, then responded to the analyst. "Our shareholders depend on us and, we like our shareholders. Our dividends will continue.
Frankly and utterly amazing, that in all the decades that I've owning and traded stocks that I know of ... ONLY ZIM chose to share percentages of it's net income with it's shareholders. When I shared this information with friends they screamed back at me, "Every company should be doing this !!!!!!!!!! "
Recognize that ZIM is unique ... and, consider yourself fortunate.
Problem is its way cheap, down from $90 bucks last year
Great analysis works for me buying a starter position tommorow
Because they have no float and make a shit ton of money. Plus the stock is cheap
How does this company afford to give such big dividends
Thank you so much :)
March 13th, they will announce results and ex-div date/ payment date. Update will be at 8:00 am ET.
I agree ! So the settle date to receive that divy would be March 14th and pay date is the 27th ... am I reading that correctly ? Sorry I am new to dividends.
I’m looking forward to the divy it may be substantial.
Thanks ! I'll pick some up once this downturn irons out. That divy is pretty hard to pass up.
Not late at all, ZIM to release results March 13, 2023.
So if I buy now I'm too late to get this quarter's dividend ?
TDA is showing a dividend of $4.75. DividendMax.com says the Record date was February 24th with the X date being March 14th and the pay date March 27th.
Q4 earnings have not been released. TDA is giving you a "Guesstimate" at best.
My broker TDA is showing the divy in March paying $4.75
ZIM Full Year and Fourth Quarter 2022 Earnings Conference Call
March 13, 2023 08:00 AM ET
No one will know the dividend payout or exact ex-dividend date until this earnings report. All speculation until then.....
ROFL, ya go with that, then expect to be surprised when your formula doesnt pan out
maybe, read their website Or use your broker for info?
Your broker should have the dividend breakdown, I use TDA, no fuss no muss and no confusion
i think over 5 less 25% as they pay out 30% but we only got 20% so we get the extra 10%.
i sent them email about special divy vs regular
how do u know those numbers? i thought about twice that number
where did you get this info?
Marchs dividend is set at $4.75 less 25% foreign tax, US folks will net $3.57 per share
the reason y divy was 17$ was they don't pay out the whole divy. Next month they will payout the big divy leftover. I've seen ceo plus it email about making it a special divy so not to come out of the stock price. If they do this shorts will be screwed as stock will go up huge as result of big divy for the whole year.
How does ZIM dividend work?
The ZIM Integrated dividend policy is to pay out 30% of net income as a dividend each quarter. So, as income looks set to fall, I expect the dividend to follow. If rates stabilise, though, the large dividend could be maintained
