Bob,
sure it has time to implement. Good things need time.
Unfortunately I don't know ASP and IHub scripting so well as to quickly pull out the necessary code here for. But I've done it for PHP/SQL and there it is quite easy. Something like this for the search display page if it helps:
$search = $_POST['search'];
$page = $page+0;
$result = mysql_query( "SELECT messageid FROM ihub WHERE name like \"%$search%\" or text like \"%$search%\" order by entrytime LIMIT $page, 10" )
or die("SELECT Error: ".mysql_error());
while ($get_id = mysql_fetch_array($result, MYSQL_ASSOC)){
$result2 = mysql_query( "SELECT name, text FROM ihub WHERE messageid=\"%$get_id%\" " )
or die("SELECT Error: ".mysql_error());
while ($search = mysql_fetch_array($result2, MYSQL_ASSOC)){
print "$search[name], $search[text]";
}
}
$page = $page+10;
of course the code is incomplete..
and so on, the basic idea, two database searches on the searchdisplaypage, the first searches all message id where string was found. the second prints the text of all idresults limited to 10 per page.
greets

Bob… I’ve asked for this one several times and I know others have too. If you really want to make a bunch of i-hubbers happy this Christmas how making it so that when we respond in PM from a public message, we are returned to the post we have just responded to instead of being thrown into our mailbox.
Please???
Yeah, blows up, BOBBY. YEAH.
Also, make it where we can just remove the posts to clear them out, then delete, not just return to mailbox.
I trained you better than this.
I get an "500 internal server error" when I try to delete an empty folder fwiw.
My focus this week will be on fixing things and adding things to iHub.
So, what all have ya got?
First off, sorry about starting the ignore fiasco.
Things I would like on IHUB
1.
The ability to pull up multiple posts on a single screen, for instance in reading a person mark's unread posts, as you can when reading replies to a message.
2.
Get Matt to shave the goatee.
3.
A "view thread" option on following posts backwards.
Ahaah! Good to know...
But, I have a folder now that has 0 messages in it. When I try to delete it, I get an error message..."Page cannot be displayed..."
It becomes functional only if you've emptied the folder first. So you can't accidentally zap a folder full of messages.
Any chance of making the delete button functional in the mailbox folder management page?
Quickie project... the clock on the favorites page is about 1:05 min. fast and could be re-synched.
Regards.
(You probably don't need this link, but I just happen to have it around in case it would help: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/216734 )
I wouldn't be able to use existing routines for this because existing batch-reading routines work on a *range* of message numbers rather than a *list* of them, which is what a search-triggered one would have to deal with.
But I'll still look into it later. This week I want to tackle mostly quickie projects. That one does sound useful and (more importantly to me sometimes) a lot of fun to tackle and come up with a solution for it, but it'll require a lot of thought and potentially a lot of code-banging.
At face value it seems I could use a similar proc and instead of having something like "WHERE subjectid=@subjid AND subjmsgnum > @lbound AND subjmsgnum <= @ ubound", I might be able to use a similar proc but have "WHERE messageid=@msgid1 OR messageid=@msgid2..." Well, no, that wouldn't work. I'd have to know how many messages were going to be retrieved when writing the proc. If I wrote it for 10, and only 5 result messageid were submitted, the proc would throw an error.
Something like "WHERE messageid+',' IN (@msgidlist)" *might* work, but I'm not sure if it'll work well, or even if it'll let me tack a comma onto the end of messageid (integer) like that, since @msgidlist would have to be comma-delimited or asking for messageid '12345678' would return messages 1 through 8, and message 12, message 23.... message 123..... etc.
I use this trick of tacking commas onto the ends of strings and using IN on a comma-delimited list all the time, but am not sure I can do the same with an integer.
I'm pretty sure it already works that way. I just tried it with Matt as the selected person and left the words field blank, and it returned all the PM's we've exchanged.
WOW! That does work! Great! Although wouldn't it be easier if it was just tied into the one on our own alias page? Thanks.
Use the Advanced Search feature on the home page... it works great for that.
You have to first membermark the poster, and yourself.
Since you're on a roll, I've got another request.....How about making it possible where we can find a post via the poster's name? I was looking for a PM I dumped from archives and had to dig into my memory banks to come up with a word to find it. Sure would have been easier if I could have just brought up all PM's from that individual. Thanks. Luv ya'!
Looks like you got them all... I'm scouring the site but they're all coming up good.
Nice work, and thanks again.
Is it just me or is full-text search really slow here? I thought it was slow but tolerable on SI. After using it here a few times, I feel like SI's is amazingly fast!
What's up with that? Anyone else feel like full-text search is slow here?
If so, I can fix it by implementing it much as I did on SI, but that'd take quite a while to rewrite it that way and you'd no longer be able to specify date ranges and instead would have to select which year to search in, like on SI.
The other place to catch is the link for "Level II - News - Quote - Chart" that is at the top of any message list...
Thanks. Just got that one, too.
And just wasted 15 minutes or so being very, very, VERY confused. Couldn't figure out why the quotes fetched from the search boxes weren't working right. I was looking right at the search results source code and the correct changes were very plainly in place.
Well, except for one tiny problem.
I'd forgotton to copy the revised search results program into production. Arrrggghhh!!!
You're on it!
The other place to catch is the link for "Level II - News - Quote - Chart" that is at the top of any message list...
http://www.investorshub.com/boards/board.asp?board_id=204 <--up at top, center
However, the problem still occurs when someone enters a symbol into the "Search" box
Do you mean the search box on the left side of the homepage? I hope you don't mean the one at the top of every page (for premium users) because I think I fixed that one. I don't think I did anything with the one on the left side of the homepage, though and will go take care of that now.
Nope. If the one at the top works correctly, the one on the left side of the homepage should, too. They both call the same asp.
Need more input.
or clicks on "Level II - News - Quote - Chart" while on a given board.
Forgot that was a place it needed fixing. Will do it now.
Done.
Edit: Nevermind on the more input thing. It's doing it to me, too. The search box at the top of the page. Also looks like some screens have a search at the bottom that needs fixing too.
Thanks Bob for considering it.
It should be easy to do when you simply change the search result code from displaying the "subject header" to displaying the full "message". Maybe limit it to 10 messages per page so it's not so traffic intense.
What could be the expensive part in your opinion?
bye
s.
Matt, your thoughts? This was a pretty heavily wished-for thing on SI so I incorporated it, but it means using two lines for each public message in the MailBox.
If desired, I can certainly do it here and though I haven't looked at the code, it sounds like an easy one. I don't want to make it user-configurable though. I want to either implement it for everyone or not implement it at all.
That's one I'll have to give some thought to. It could be very expensive, very tough to implement, or both.
I'm only able to spend this week over here, then I'll be tied up in other things (including SI) for at least a couple weeks and only able to focus a little of my attention here.
Hi Bob. First, thanks for fixing that problem on the home page. While other websites are falling apart, iHub rules!
However, the problem still occurs when someone enters a symbol into the "Search" box, or clicks on "Level II - News - Quote - Chart" while on a given board. QuoteMedia will return old information from a prior tab, if you had clicked on a tab during the same browser session. FYI
Done. Lemme see if it also works that way in Board search and if it doesn't, I'll change it so it does.
Edit: Board search wasn't doing it, but now it does.
ROTFL!!! Chu :) nice to see ya...lol..merry christmas!
I know I'm wasting my time, but I'd like to see in the mailbox listed what board the messages are from, so I can decide to read them individually or just go to the board itself. Saves me from trying to dig up last post read.
And Bob.....don't be hatin'.
Bob,
I'm not sure if you saw it, but Stack made a request in #msg-4805632 that would be helpful. As a matter of fact, if it's not too resource-expensive, it would be a good extension for all searches.
Fred
When I search for a word in all public messages it is highlighted in blue. I would like that to be the case when I search for a word from someone's profile.
Not sure what you mean.
And the whole Ignore thing is a too-sensitive topic among some users here, so there's not a lot I want to do involving it.
How about a place on one's profile listing the number of IGGIES
My focus this week will be on fixing things and adding things to iHub.
So, what all have ya got?
Hi,
when I do a Public Message Search, I would like to read the results in 10 or 50 posts at a time on one page. Like reading multiple reply posts at the same time.
At the moment I have to click every post and go back to the list. Very inconvenient.
Or is it implemented and I don't know about it?
Thanks.

Done. For Premium members. (or). . . . .
Done. For extra paying Premium members.
To: MIA Bob Zumbrunnen
Just as the feature set obtained for a Premium membership
on SI is not identical to that here on IH, I know of one here
on IH that I'am willing to pay extra for, unlike the Read Next 100
on SI I need not since my posting trend has been less SI and more IH
about the time things at SI went downhill, and Matt's IH obtain you
to have IH go uphill until like the F and C temperatures scales,
a point reached when the absolute values of each
exchanged which was on "top" and other "below" the other.
Now that SI has iHubbed itself, one might think that I may
get heated up and post more on SI.
Yes and No
An increased posting activity for me on SI now requires
that I experience the same level of "ease of reading posts"
that I am now use to here on IH.
But thats the Read Next 100 feature not included in SI's Premium.
I'll predict that the extra cash SI makes by selling that feature,
on top of a Premium, is less than the "wealth" that would be obtained
from an expected increase in postings from the Premium membership
that refuses to pay even one penny more on top of a Premium
to obtain what is standard equipment on the IH vehicle.
SiHub should do more reversed social engineering to discover
when certain buttons pushed for a positive effect have as a
greater than its equal a negative parallel resultant to do one
of those one step forward + two steps bachwards.
Seems BobZ forgot one of his number 1(s) rules about message boards,
that make it easy to get in, and once in, make it easy to use,
which includes a carrot at stick end to remove ads with paying cash
for a Premium membership, but once a member is a Premium,
make it a joy to write and read posts so that the amount
of communication between Premium members is well greased.
Then introduce some above & beyond features to the well greased pole
certain add-ons that neither help nor hinder the foundation
of what makes a message board a winner.
Make message board a total winner for all Premiums.
Then the "Don't need, but very nice to pay to have."
For Example:
I have Zeev Hed "people marked" as an IH Favorite person.
I only want to read the Political Turnip, not the Trade'n Turnip.
So now I can't simply click on the number of Zeev's new posts,
but I must filter out of his profile page those of the trading board.
I would pay extra on top of the Premium, or since I'am Grandfathered,
simply pay an Advanced Premium fee if it included the ability
to make a member a Favorite and filter "in" only the boards interested in.

"no info available from the Outbox results..."
Well, it is available from:

Private Messages
Sent To Date/Time
So, guess only request is for it to be appended to top later on.
Below is the view of a PM I just sent to an iHub member
via going to their iHub profile page and send'n a PM.
The Copy & Paste is from me going to my iHub MailBox and click'n
into the Outbox of:
Folders: Manage/Open / Archives: Inbox - Outbox / Clear All: PMs - Replies
While I know whom I sent the PM, and I recorded their name
inside my PM to them, there was no info available from the Outbox results
that would clue me into that info if I needed to know it as an unknowned later on.

smartbiz, As a FREE iHub member you may not be able to PM me,
but I think this PM will reach you.
I gave as reply this post...

to the following question of...

i know there is storage space for the ibox links somewhere
on ihub but i can't recall the name of it. anyone know>?

You might reply directly to what this person asks if your board
is what they are looking for.
Since you can't use PMs you will have to reply as a Public post
on that board, which may be a good thing since Admin(Matt) reads
all posts there and if your board contributes to make iHub a better place,
then in my optinion you sould be rewarded with a free Premium account.

<< You don't really expect Bob to answer you do you? >>
If he doesn't answer me here he will there.
Yes, he has his work cut out on SI, and it's his priority, but this remains the proper forum.
I pointed this same thing thing out on SI, and it was changed very promptly.
- Eric -
Hi Eric,
You don't really expect Bob to answer you do you?
He's way too busy nowadays posting about things not related to stock investing here on IHUB to take time to post a reply to you here.
He used to interact with the posters here, but he quit doing so right after he bought Silicon Investor.
He's happy in his world now, so perhaps it is best we let him wallow in it and wait and see if he ever realizes that there is an entire cyberspace of people out here who wonder if he still even exists in real life.
Formatting Text ...
Bob,
You recently changed the "New SI UI" to allow the use of Capitals (I, B, U) preceeded and followed by angle brackets in formatting text (which was the original SI convention).
Any chance you could do that here?
I use a sophisticated text editor (TextPad) to compose posts (to compose anything actually) and it has prerecorded macros to add HTML tags and it Caps the above letters.
Best,
- Eric -
Hey Bob.
When I do a universal search say for the word 'idiosyncratic' the word is highlighted in blue. If I do the same search on a specific board this is not the case. This may be a bit idiosyncratic but I think it would be helpful if this blue highlight were also available for a board search.
Bob, I can't change to any of my "Favorite" boards.....
Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000d'

Thank you very much kind sir.
I hope Darth is well.
Done. For Premium members.
Would it be possible to have this button Hide Board Info - also at the top of the IBOX?
You should ask Darth.
Yes that is what I thought. I wonder what is taking so long.
That's a great idea. Especially when some overloaded 20 page ibox pops up that takes 12 mouse miles of scroll wheel spinning to get past!
Would it be possible to have this button Hide Board Info - also at the top of the IBOX?
Bob & Matt, No need to fix #board-2065 and please delete it.
Just so Matt leaves instructions to next Admin to not remove
via delete the post #1 of a board then fixing the code can be
put off until all Grandfathered account expire.
