Two astronauts land on Mars. Their mission: to check whether there is Oxygen on the planet "Give me the box of matches" says one. "Either it burns and there is Oxygen, or nothing happens."
He takes the box, and is ready to strike a match when out of the blue, a Martian appears waving all his arms yelling "No, no, don't!" and grabbing the match away.
The two guys look at each other, worried. Could there be an unknown explosive gas on Mars? But he takes another match...and now, a crowd of hysterical Martians is coming, all waving their arms yelling "No, no, don't do that!"
The astronaut says to his buddy, "It looks serious. What are they afraid of? He turns to the Martian and says We mean you no harm but we're here for Science, to know if man can breathe on Mars". Before the Martian can react, he strikes the match, which flames up, burns down, and...nothing happens. "Why did you try to prevent us from striking a match?"
The leader of the Martians says, "Today is Yom Kippur!"

Have one on me. Have a great New Year.
Call of the Shofar
* 1 1/2 oz. whiskey (Oddly enough, Jameson Irish Whiskey provides a great combo of caramel flavors with a solid oak base to offset the sweetness)
* 1 1/2 oz. sherry
* 1 1/2 oz. Manischewitz Concord Grape kosher wine
Pour all the ingredients into a wine goblet full of ice, stir and garnish with a few apple slices. Deep thoughts will soon ensue.
L'Shanah Tovah
* 1 oz. Pama pomegranate liqueur
* 1 oz. cognac (Jacque Cardin Cognac is a nice match to the tart pomegranate, offering solid complexity and sweetness that cuts the “pucker”)
* 1.5 oz. tonic water
Combine the ingredients in a mixing glass full of ice and stir gently to avoid losing too much carbonation. Strain into a cocktail glass and serve it up to guests eager to avoid a second night of Manischewitz.
The Rosh Hashana
* 1.5 oz. bourbon (Jim Beam Black is perfect here – not so expensive it's wasted by mixing, but still with great caramel-coated bourbon flavor that pairs perfectly with the apple and honey)
* 1 oz. Barenjager Honey Liqueur
* Apple cider (preferably unfiltered and unpasteurized – giving the whole drink a little more complexity and tangy flavor)
Pour the bourbon and liqueur into a lowball glass over ice and top off with the apple cider. Give it a stir, kick back, and reflect on what's sure to be an awesome new year. And if you don't believe that yet, go back for another round or two.
Shanah Tovah
I wish you all a Shanah Tovah Umetukah (a good and sweet new year), may you all have a Ktiva Vechatimah Tovah (a good inscription, and sealing, in the book of life). May we all have health, happiness, and prosperity, and may the world finally experience peace.

Fight Aging: 6 Secrets to Staying Young
http://www.health.com/health/gallery/0,,20356118_1,00.html
Finding the Fountain of Youth
Scientists in search of the Fountain of Youth share their findings. You can try these tricks today.
"With aging, we've always studied things that decline," says Changiz Geula, PhD, research professor of neurology at the Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer's Disease Center at Northwestern's Feinberg School of Medicine. But now she and other experts are looking instead to unlock the secrets of the "superaged," those lucky individuals who seem to stay vital well into their 80s and beyond. Here's some of their latest research, with advice on how you can add years to your life.
1. Stop eating so much
In Okinawa, Japan—home to some of the world's oldest people—centenarians stop eating when they're 80 percent full, says The Blue Zones author Dan Buettner, who studies longevity all over the planet.
They're onto something: Scientists at St. Louis University found that, while both exercising and eating less led to weight loss in the study's volunteers, cutting calories also lowered production of T3, a thyroid hormone that slows metabolism. The researchers believe that lower T3 levels may also slow the aging process.
2. Make love
Women who enjoy sex live longer, says Mehmet Oz, MD, professor and vice chairman of surgery at New York Presbyterian–Columbia University and co-author of YOU: Being Beautiful. In fact, doubling your amount of satisfying sex can add up to three years to your life, he says. "Sex gives you the Zen moment you can't find throughout the day otherwise."
3. Use your brain
Dr. Geula, who has studied 80-year-olds who perform at the same level as people in their 50s on neuropsychological tests, has found that the superaged have fewer brain tangles—deposits of protein linked to Alzheimer's—suggesting that their brains have some sort of protection that normal brains don't. While scientists puzzle this out, there's a lot you can do to keep your own synapses firing. Learn Italian, take up the cello—even driving a new route to work can wake up sleepy brain cells.
4. Pour yourself some merlot
You've probably heard a lot about resveratrol, a compound in red wine and grape juice that seems to slow aging. One recent study found that resveratrol-fed mice had stronger bones and better motor coordination, and showed fewer "old age" problems like heart disease, inflammation, and cataracts. The jury is still out on whether resveratrol has the same effect on humans, but nutritionists say drinking red wine in moderation does have heart-healthy benefits.
5. Lose the muffin top
In one large study published last year, researchers who tracked 6,583 people for more than 30 years found that having significant belly fat in midlife can nearly triple your risk of dementia.
6. Eat more plants
In his study of centenarians, Buettner found the longest-living people tend to eat less meat and more beans, soy, and nuts.
Olive oil's health benefits
Studies have shown that people who consumed 25 milliliters (mL) - about 2 tablespoons - of virgin olive oil daily for 1 week showed less oxidation of LDL cholesterol and higher levels of antioxidant compounds, particularly phenols, in the blood.(4)

(getting closer?)
Before you venture olive oil, a few useful tips
from a semi expert (humble-me):
~Buy Extra-virgin olive oil only.
~Production date should not exceed 12 months
(my deadline is 6 months at most)
~The less acidity, the better. No more than 0.8%,
my preference is 0.4%-0.5%, but 0.8% is quite ok too.
Follow above guidelines, the rest will take
good care of itself.

Interesting, they should do more sealed room tests. If this is even close to true than the world might learn something from him.
I'm getting closer and closer to trying the olive oil for sure.
Speaking about dieting and health ....
Surviving without a morsel of food and water for more than 70 years sounds humanly impossible, but Prahlad Jani, an 82-year-old Indian, claims to have eaten not a single grain of rice or consumed a drop of water since the early years of World War II.

Woman's Nine Words
From someone who obviously gets it!
NINE WORDS WOMEN USE
(1) Fine: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.
(2) Five Minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.
(3) Nothing: This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.
(4) Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It!
(5) Loud Sigh: This is not actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to # 3 for the meaning of nothing.)
(6) That's Okay: This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.
(7) Thanks: A woman is thanking you, do not question, or faint. Just say you're welcome. (I want to add in a clause here - This is true, unless she says 'Thanks a lot' - that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking you at all. DO NOT say 'you're welcome'. That will bring on a 'whatever').
(8) Whatever: Is a woman's way of saying F--K YOU!
(9) Don't worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking 'What's wrong?' For the woman's response refer to # 3.
Send this to the men you know, to warn them about arguments they can avoid if they remember the terminology.
Send this to all the women you know to give them a good laugh, cause they know it's true!!!

My father was a merchant marine for many years and while divorced and at sea he was a better father to us kids than most of my friends had who had their fathers in the house. He spent at least four weeks at home in the summer with us and other visits in between jobs as he shipped out Seattle, WA and Portland, OR not that far away. My father was never fat but a little chunky was is a fair description for sure. He decided to lose some weight one year and he did it with a diet that included a shot glass of Vinegar and a shot glass of Olive Oil everyday.
When my father came home that summer he was fit as fiddle, stronger than ever and looked fantastic; he literally glowed with heath and had an abundance of energy. He said he never felt better had not gotten sick once the whole year; and being merchant marine it was uncommon to get a case the punnies now and then. I tell you this because it seems to back up this guys findings.
A solution to olive your problems
Inspired by biblical descriptions of the health benefits of olive oil, physiologist Dr Shaul Eger has devoted himself to concocting remedies in which it's a key ingredient.
Dr. Shaul eger
A search for a cure to his own health problems led to a whole new profession for Dr. Shaul Eger.
Thirty years ago Dr. Shaul Eger, an Israeli physiologist specializing in animal husbandry, was told by specialists that his heart arrhythmia was incurable and that he might die. He turned to ancient Jewish sources, where he read about the health benefits of olive oil. "I realized I had a problem, so I went back to my ancestors - to the Bible," Eger tells ISRAEL21c.
He was particularly inspired by the Jewish doctor Assaf Harofeh (Assaf the Physician) a Mesopotamian believed to have lived in the sixth century, whose works opened Eger's mind, and heart, to a new remedy.
Harofeh writes that olive oil staves off mental illness and other ailments including those which afflict the heart. "We know from the Bible and Rambam [a leading 13th century Jewish scholar and physician] that olive oil is good for the memory," says Eger, citing the Jewish law book, the Talmud, where it is written that those who drink olive oil will retain their memory for 70 years.
Just a spoonful of oil
"I found a lot of scientific basis for using olive oil" says the scientist, "... and I started to consume it." Eger adds that his Arab neighbors near Yokneam Moshava, a village close to the Carmel region in Israel's north, agreed about the oil's health benefits.
At the time, while olive oil was a mainstay of the diet of Israel's Arab population, Jewish Israelis hadn't yet discovered it, so he bought it unrefined from his Arabs neighbors. "It was awful - the quality at the time [was low] because it was made in the traditional way, on stones. From a sanitation point of view it was a disaster. The acidity was high, the peroxide value was terrible." Still, he swallowed the stuff.
His self-prescribed remedy was a spoonful of olive oil a day, and within six months Eger was up to eight spoons a day. His arrhythmia disappeared. Before taking the olive oil, Eger says of his arrhythmia: "I suffered from it badly and had two bad experiences where I blacked out."
But after drinking the olive oil, his entire outlook and career path were transformed. He decided to quit his job at the Ministry of Agriculture and make his own olive oil. Eger believes that he was one of the first Jews in modern Israel to grow olive trees and harvest the oil, "on the same land and in the same climate that made olives 3,000 and 4,000 years ago."
Olive Oil Olives

Ancient Jewish texts say that olive oil is good for the memory.
Born in 1944, before Israel became a state, Eger was infused with the Zionist ideals of being a pioneer and farming the land, but he also wanted to be a scientist. He had earned a PhD at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and his studies were focused on cattle, but after tasting the healing properties of olive oil, he switched gears. "I learned by myself, and got into a niche, in a subject I found to be very complicated, interesting and significant to human health," he recounts. "Olive oil is a tricky raw material. It's easy to produce, but easy to spoil - it's so delicate. In terms of medicinal value, it's potent. I decided I was going to deal with this."
Spreadable oil for baking and bottoms
The married father of three (who says he almost became "unmarried" as a result of his olive oil passion), has three grandchildren, and has planted 1,000 olive trees, whose fruit he reaps today.
Investing money in science, Eger's efforts have yielded a number of new products which he hopes will make Israeli olive oil competitive in the global market. With around 160 olive oil producers, Israel currently supplies only about one percent of the world's total olive oil and according to Eger, the Israeli oil has no relative advantages in cost and taste.
So Eger chose to manufacture health products, with his oil as the key ingredient. One example from the line of Dr. Eger Olive Oil Products is a non-dairy, low-sugar chocolate spread.
Together with Prof. Ishak Neeman of the Technion Institute of Technology in Haifa, Eger developed a technology for water-free, preservative-free, trans fatty acid-free solidification of oils. The ensuing margarine substitute or spreadable olive oil is solid and stable at room temperature. It can be used to make puff pastry, diaper rash cream or lip balm to treat herpes cold sores. The Eger line also offers beauty products for the face and skin.
A firm believer that people should not eat cheese and dairy products, Eger hopes to share his life experience, and cure, with the world. Olive oil has fatty acids, good anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative properties, he says, concluding, "It has the optimal composition of fatty acids, and five percent of its micro-ingredients are so important to our health."

The picture with that article had some nice assets too, HARR!!!!!
It was a terrible night, blowing cold and snow in a most
frightful manner. The streets were deserted and the local baker
was just about to close up shop when a little Jewish man slipped
through the door. He carried an umbrella, blown inside out, and
was bundled in two sweaters and a thick coat. But even so he
still looked wet, freezing, and bedraggled.
As he unwound his scarf he said to the baker, "May I have two
poppy seed bagels to go, please?"
The baker said in astonishment, "Two bagels? Nothing more?"
"That's right," answered the little man. "One for me and one for
Sherry."
"Sherry is your wife?" Asked the baker.
"What do you think," snapped the little man, "my mother would
send me out on a night like this?"

National Geographic ranks Tel Aviv among world's top beach cities
'Call it Miami Beach on the Med. Tel Aviv is the Dionysian counterpart to religious Jerusalem.'

They may be hot, crowded and swarming with jellyfish, but Tel Aviv beaches are apparently a world-class asset.
National Geographic yesterday published a list of the world's 10 best beach cities and rated Tel Aviv alongside Barcelona, Rio de Janeiro, Nice (on the French riviera ) and Cape Town.

The prestigious magazine's article says: "Call it Miami Beach on the Med. Tel Aviv is the Dionysian counterpart to religious Jerusalem. In the 'bubble,' as it's known for its inhabitants' tendency to tune out regional skirmishes, some restaurants, discos, and clubs are open until dawn.
By day, the scene shifts to the city's promenade and eight miles (13 kilometers ) of beach literally steps from town."

I always thought Valentines Day was a Greek holiday. lol
...or wait till Valentine's day. I celebrate both
I might convert.
Tu Be’Av – The Jewish Holiday of Love
Tu Be’Av, the 15th of Av, is the Jewish “holiday of love” and one of our favorites. It’s a matchmaking ritual and celebration of joy that began over 2500 years ago. To celebrate, maidens wore white dresses and danced in the vineyards, enticing the village bachelors. Enchanted by their grace, the men chose which maiden to take as their bride.
After going unnoticed for centuries on the Jewish calendar, the Jewish holiday of Tu Be’Av has gained popularity in recent decades. We hope that its spirit brings you good luck in love this July.
