Richmond, Poormond, Inflationmond
The Richmond Fed's manufacturing index was forecast to claw its way back into positive territory after slipping to minus nine in May. Not only did it fail to reach the very low bar of a positive two reading, it actually plunged to negative 19. That's the lowest score since May of 2020.
Manufacturers reported their prices were up 10.4 percent compared with 12 months ago, an acceleration of inflation from 9.6 percent in May. This matches the all-time high for this series hit in January. Inflation in prices received has risen for three consecutive months.
Prices paid moved down to show prices up 11.9 percent from a year ago, down from 15.1 percent in May. This partly reflects the fact that prices were already rising at an 11 percent pace in June of last year. June 2021 was the first time the Richmond Fed’s barometer of prices paid for materials crossed into double digits.
.......manufacturers expect to increase their own prices 4.6 percent over the coming year and to pay 5.4 percent more for materials, both representing an easing from the 12-month expectations recorded in May......

Breitbart Business Digest
June 28, 2022
These are the times that try men's souls—and budgets.
The American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) reports that the cost of a standard Fourth of July cookout will cost 17 percent more than last year, the steepest price hike since they began keeping records a decade ago. U.S. consumers will pay $69.68 for their favorite cookout foods. The biggest increase in the basket of goods tracked by the AFBF is ground beef, up 36 percent compared with last year.
Actually, the AFBF is undercounting how much Independence Day will drain household bank accounts. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) that includes propane gas and firewood is up 28 percent compared with last year. Gasoline is up close to 50 percent—something that will hit the 42 million people AAA expects will take a road trip over the weekend. Two million people are expected to take flights this weekend—and airfares are up 37.8 percent.
Fireworks are getting pricier too. The CPI category that includes fireworks is up 11 percent. Some local media reports, however, say fireworks are up as much as 50 to 70 percent. National Public Radio reports that some cities are canceling fireworks displays altogether because of a shortage of available explosives and high prices. (Of course, the drought that has dried out much of the country does not help either.)
The pollster Frank Luntz said nearly two weeks ago that Fourth of July weekend is going to result in an explosion of outrage over inflation. The travel costs and grocery costs are going to hit all at once—and are unavoidable. There's no putting off purchases for later, hoping for a sale.
"There are three holidays, there are three moments when Americans take to the roads, and when Americans buy more food than at any other time of the year: Christmas, Thanksgiving, and the Fourth of July weekend. And everyone is going to be filling up their car 13 days from now, and they can’t put $40 or $50 in their tank — they actually have to fill it up, and that’s when the explosion hits," Luntz said.

Was out cleaning my truck when I noticed lightning starting; I immediately wrapped up and took cover.
We take lightning very seriously in Florida, a state that gets more lightning strikes each year than the other 49 states combined!
When someone in Florida says your chances of winning the lottery are the same as getting struck by lightning, it means your chances aren't that bad :)
AVAV I own a good amt with a 77.55 avg.
I'll add tomorrow if it drops.
There will be big news announcements over the next three months of DoD and other contracts for Swithblades.

AEROVIRONMENT ANNOUNCES FISCAL 2022 FOURTH QUARTER AND FISCAL YEAR RESULTS
ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jun. 28, 2022-- AeroVironment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV), a global leader in intelligent, multi-domain robotic systems, today reported financial results for the fourth quarter and fiscal year ended April 30, 2022.
Fourth Quarter and Fiscal Year Highlights
Fourth quarter revenue of $132.6 million and record fiscal year 2022 revenues of $445.7 million, primarily due to higher service revenue and recent acquisitions, which more than offset sales declines in some product segments
Fourth quarter gross margin of $48.6 million and $141.2 million for fiscal 2022
Fourth quarter net income attributable to AeroVironment of $7.3 million, or $0.29 per diluted share
Net loss attributable to AeroVironment for fiscal year 2022 of $4.2 million, or $(0.17) per diluted share
“Our team executed well in the fourth quarter enabling the Company to meet our guidance for fiscal 2022, despite ongoing macroeconomic challenges,” said Wahid Nawabi, AeroVironment president and chief executive officer. “We are confident that fiscal 2023 will be a solid organic growth year for the business.
“During the quarter, the Company continued to face supply chain constraints and a tight labor market, but several factors point to strengthening demand and an overall improving outlook. First, the federal government passed its fiscal 2022 omnibus appropriations bill in March, and contract decision-making has begun to accelerate – which, we believe, will continue through the end of September. At the same time, the war in Ukraine has brought increased awareness of our portfolio of innovative solutions, including the highly relevant Switchblade tactical missile system, and we anticipate benefiting from higher order volume going forward.
“We’re proud of our accomplishments in this difficult year and of the assistance we’ve provided to Ukraine and our allies. We still face continuing macroeconomic challenges in operating the business but opportunities abound for our broad portfolio of unmanned robotic solutions. Our products and services enjoy strong bipartisan support in Congress, and we anticipate orders accelerating heading into calendar 2023. An improving mix of hardware sales should also lead to improved bottom line results. Overall, the future looks bright and I’d like to thank our employees, customers and shareholders for their dedication and continued support.”
FISCAL 2022 FOURTH QUARTER RESULTS
Revenue for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2022 was $132.6 million, a decrease of 2% from the fourth quarter of fiscal 2021 revenue of $136.0 million. The decrease in revenue reflects a decrease in product sales of $22.7 million, partially offset by higher service revenue of $19.3 million. The decrease in revenue was primarily due to a decrease in revenue in the Tactical Missile Systems (“TMS”) segment of $19.0 million and the Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (“Small UAS”) segment of $11.7 million. These decreases were partially offset by an increase in revenue from the Unmanned Ground Vehicles product line of $8.5 million and the Medium Unmanned Aircraft Systems (“MUAS”) segment of $7.2 million, as a result of our acquisitions of Arcturus UAV (“Arcturus”) and Telerob GmbH (“Telerob”) in February and May 2021, respectively, and an increase in the High Altitude Pseudo-Satellite (“HAPS”) segment of $6.0 million and an increase in customer-funded research and development revenue of $5.5 million.
Gross margin for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2022 was $48.6 million, a decrease of 18% from the fourth quarter of fiscal 2021 gross margin of $59.7 million. The decrease in gross margin reflects lower product margin of $14.8 million, partially offset by higher service margin of $3.8 million. As a percentage of revenue, gross margin decreased to 37% from 44%. Gross margin was negatively impacted by $3.9 million of intangible amortization expense and other related non-cash purchase accounting expenses in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2022 as compared to $2.6 million in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2021. With the acquisitions of Arcturus and the Intelligent Systems Group of Progeny Systems Corp. (“ISG”), we experienced a higher proportion of service revenue, which generally has lower gross margins than product sales.
Income from operations for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2022 was $13.0 million, a decrease of $4.8 million from the fourth quarter of fiscal 2021 income from operations of $17.8 million. The decrease in income from operations was primarily the result of a decrease in gross margin of $11.0 million, partially offset by a decrease in research and development (“R&D”) expense of $3.4 million and a decrease in selling, general and administrative (“SG&A”) expense of $2.9 million. SG&A expense included acquisition-related expenses and intangible amortization expense of $4.3 million in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2022 as compared to $6.7 million in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2021. SG&A expense in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2022 also included additional headcount and support costs associated with the acquisition of Telerob.
Other income, net, for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2022 was $5.3 million, as compared to other expense, net of $9.4 million for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2021. The increase in other income, net was primarily due to a legal accrual related to our former EES business recorded in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2021, as compared to a $6.5 million gain related to the sale of the Company’s interest in the HAPSMobile joint venture in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2022.
Provision for income taxes for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2022 was $15.5 million, as compared to a benefit from income taxes of $2.2 million for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2021. The increase in provision for income taxes was primarily due to the increase in income before income taxes.
Equity method investment income, net of tax, for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2022 was $4.4 million, as compared to equity method investment income, net of tax of $0.4 million for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2021.
Net income attributable to AeroVironment for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2022 was $7.3 million, or $0.29 per diluted share, as compared to $10.9 million, or $0.44 per diluted share, for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2021.
Non-GAAP earnings per diluted share was $0.30 for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2022, as compared to $1.04 for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2021.

That AVAV (AEROVIRONMENT INC) I'm playing tonight makes those switchblade drones presently being utilized in Ukraine.
I read a news story today that French political leaders have expressed an interest in adding these to their military program. Might portend good Guidance?
It is not a highly rated stock and being low volume can be subject to manipulation. I'm playing a middling position and may heaven help me.

I guess we have to thank these flakey, new brokerage companies for knocking Fidelity and others down to zero cost trades
Ya, even with the then good $4.95 I was getting from Fidelity, I've done 30 trades today. That would have cost me $148.50.
It does help, I only have to pay a small fee per contract on options. .65c per contract.
With commission free trading, we can make $$ every day.
I don't know how we did it before...
Despite going from only two positions at the start of the day, to twelve positions now, including an earnings play this afternoon (AVAV), I'm still up exactly a sub and a bottle of water.
You'd think with all those positions, my account value would be fluctuating more.

DISCLAIMER:
1. DO THE MATH!!! - Before placing any trade, do the math. Where is the trigger? Where is the proper stop based on the chart setup? How many shares should I buy? This is easy to figure out. You never want to lose more than 1% of your trading account balance on any given trade. So, if you have a $30,000 account, your maximum acceptable loss on any given trade should be $300. If the stop is .20 cents below the entry price (again, based on the chart setup), then you should not buy more than 1500 shares (for the purpose of this lesson I have left commissions out of the equation for simplicity).
2. PAY YOURSELF!!! - Once you have a small profit (I use a dime as a rough personal guideline) sell part of your position and move your stop to breakeven on the rest. You will have very few losing trades if you do this, and the losses you do have will be small.
3. STOP TRADING!!! - What do I mean by this? If you hit your daily goal (everyone should have one and make it realistic) stop trading. Afternoons are tougher to trade than mornings anyway, so take the money and run....tomorrow is another day.
4. STOP TRADING!!! - Didn't we go over this already? Well, this one has another meaning. If you lose 1/2 the amount of your daily goal, stop trading and come back tomorrow. For instance, if your goal is to make $500 a day, and you are down $250 on the day, quit for the day. This is the best way to avoid falling into a 'trading death spiral'.
