Dumb investing exists. Consider day trading and penny stocks, or going 100% cash except in dire emergency.
Some money advice is Solid Gold, or perhaps Solid Platinum Dumb. We know a divorced mother who owes $100,000 on her daughter's education to become a "makeup artist." You encounter unbelievable stories like that in tabloids, but they exist.
Odd thing is the kid had mostly A's in high school. Stupidity exists.... like an experienced investor broadcasting that he can time good markets and bad from his reading of the daily news, IHUB scuttlebutt or from charts.
To each his own. There are many reasons why people do what they do regarding investments.
You and I for example don't agree on investment strategies. It doesn't make either one of us right or wrong.
Why going 100% cash never makes sense. Maybe didn't even makes sense in 1929 for those not using margin and those in blue chip div payers. The Dow stunk thru about 1937, but rock-solid stocks continued to pay fat and eventually growing dividends.
AP announces: "The S&P 500 is in a bull market. Here’s what that means and how long the bull might run."
"WHY HAS THE MARKET RALLIED?
Largely because the economy has defied predictions by not falling into a recession, at least not yet.
Markets tumbled last year on fears about how the worst inflation in decades would ravage the economy. More precisely, Wall Street got spooked by the aggressive measures the Federal Reserve took to combat high inflation."

Toyota ups investment in North Carolina to $5.9 billion, the biggest such deal ever in the state.
Richard Craver May 31, 2023 Updated Jun 1, 2023
Toyota North America has upped its investment — this time by $2.1 billion Wednesday to $5.9 billion — in its North Carolina electric-vehicle battery plant.
The planned manufacturing plant in Liberty has become the largest single economic-development project commitment in North Carolina history even though the first battery won’t be available until 2025.

A surprise deal between Ford Motor and Tesla on electric vehicle charging technology and infrastructure could put new pressure on other automakers’ EV strategies.
Ford CEO Jim Farley and Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced the deal Thursday during a live audio discussion on Twitter Spaces.
RBC Capital analyst Tom Narayan said the Ford-Tesla deal could be a near-term negative for GM and other automakers.

VOLVO GIFT SUPPORTS UNCG’S BRYAN SCHOOL BLUEPRINT SERIES
Volvo is helping steer UNC Greensboro’s students toward success in their careers.
Volvo Group North America, LLC, has pledged $100,000 to UNC Greensboro for the purpose of supporting the UNCG’s Bryan School of Business and Economics Blueprint Series.
The Blueprint Series is a required four-credit undergraduate curriculum focused on accelerating business students’ personal and professional development.
Consisting of personal, professional, global and intercultural, and leadership components, this groundbreaking series at UNCG is designed to equip students with the employability skills needed to succeed in an ever-changing industry landscape.
Martin Weissburg, chairman of Volvo Group North America, executive vice president of Volvo Group, and president of Mack Trucks, formerly served on UNCG’s Board of Trustees.
“The symbiotic relationship between the Triad community and UNCG has become extremely evident to me over the years,” he said. “UNCG opens doors for every deserving student, providing opportunities for students of every background to achieve their academic goals. These graduates go on to become our workforce and our neighbors. That is why Volvo believes that UNCG is a critical lynchpin in the stability and success of the area. I’m thrilled to announce that Volvo is making a critical investment in the Bryan School of Business and Economics.”
McRae C. “Mac” Banks, Margaret & Harrell Hill Distinguished Professor and Dean of the Bryan School, said, “This gift is a tremendous affirmation of the Bryan School’s work to develop students to compete for the best internships and full-time jobs and to be job-ready at graduation. We have seen tremendous results from the Bryan Blueprint Series and the Volvo Group North America has benefited from it. The entire School and I are deeply grateful to the company and Martin Weissburg for the impact they are having both on our students and on our graduates’ employers and communities.”
Volvo Group drives prosperity through transport and infrastructure solutions, offering trucks, buses, construction equipment, power solutions for marine and industrial applications, financing and services that increase our customers’ uptime and productivity. They are committed to shaping the future landscape of sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions.
With this gift, they will also shape the students’ future prosperity and the impact they will have throughout their careers.
Many UNCG graduates work for Volvo Group North America. Over 245 alumni are employed with Volvo Group, Weissburg noted, with several alumni serving as leaders on their team. In addition to their past generosity to UNCG, Volvo hosts Spartan interns and participates in professional development, career fairs, and information sessions offered at the University.
This pledge is part of UNCG’s Light the Way: The Campaign for Earned Achievement. This comprehensive fundraising campaign seeks to raise $200 million to increase access, elevate academic excellence, and enhance the tremendous impact of UNCG’s programs. Ford Motor isn’t as undervalued by the stock market as Chief Executive Jim Farley seems to think. It expects its adjusted operating margin to rise to 10% by 2026 from 6.6% last year as it turns losses on its first-generation EVs to profit on a second generation while cutting fixed costs on conventional cars. The implication is that a less cyclical, higher-margin Ford should be better valued as cars go digital.
Lots of focus on GAS vehicles yesterday! Maybe F is waking up !?!?!? Should I buy here???
Everything we now own is 4 bangers except for the Ranger which a 6 cylinder.
I'll wait and see what the future brings.

How to turn a kid into a good_investor? My two sons had piggy banks and places in their rooms where they stashed currency. Money in the form of stock and bond funds was put in their names very early on. It was a good tax shelter since gains were taxed at their rate, about zero. Later the IRS got smart and taxed the income of kids under 14 at their generally higher family rate. Over the years their wealth grew as they received gifts and inheritances, and later had some real part time jobs
CPA kid made about $2,000 as coach of an American Legion baseball team, his first real job. His team was dreadful on the field, but that American Legion post had money to spare as it was in the process of disbanding.
My "CPA kid" developed a slight interest in the market and I had him create a paper portfolio of five stocks. I figured (and hoped) he'd get wiped out, but the opposite happened thanks to the roaring bull market.
Sons learned fundamental investing math like PE ratios and dividends. They learned the most basic accounting terms. For a very brief time, CPA son thought Dad was an idiot because I didn't own Dot Com or tech stocks that were red hot for a time. That conversation stopped around 2001 with the crash.
No, I don't think you can expect kids to become good investors on their own, although I received almost no guidance from my own family. My Dad was a product of the Depression. He owned almost no stocks until he was pretty old. I received one lesson from him... That investing could be dangerous. I learned by reading and watching others doing it wrong.

Today's large cap can quickly become tomorrow's small cap or vice versa. That said all stocks are fair game here except pinks.
What size is "small"? There are many definitions. Some people define a small public company as one with a market cap under $1 billion. Others define small cap as under $2 billion. And there are yet other definitions. Over the last two decades the word "small" has come to mean larger and larger companies! To confuse matters, NASDAQ's small cap market system continues to list truly small public companies, many of which would be classified as nano-cap by the definitions, below. Here are some current definitions from Investopedia and Investor Words.
Market Cap Investopedia Investor Words
Mega-Cap over $200 billion over $250 billion
Large-Cap $10 billion - $200 billion. $5 billion - $250 billion
Mid-Cap $2 billion - $10 billion $1 billion - $5 billion
Small-Cap $300 million - $2 billion $250 million - $1 billion
Micro-Cap $50 million - $300 million under 250 million
