Bill Gates really digs his visit to a hydrogen startup, filling a pothole with carbon-trapping asphalt
BY LISA STIFFLER on April 11, 2024
Bill Gates grabbed a wheelbarrow and shovel on Wednesday to fill a parking lot pothole with a new carbon trapping asphalt.
Gates was visiting Modern Hydrogen, a Seattle-area climate tech startup that has developed a device for cracking natural gas molecules, producing hydrogen for fuel and a product known as carbon black that has a variety of industrial applications — including as a key ingredient in asphalt.
“Bill was great,” said Tony Pan, Modern Hydrogen’s CEO, of the Microsoft co-founder’s visit. “He was super engaged, hands-on.”

Port of Antwerp-Bruges to host ‘largest’ AEM electrolyser installation
By Charlie Currie on Apr 10, 2024
Belgium’s Port of Antwerp-Bruges plans to host a trial of an AEM electrolyser for hydrogen production.
Under the port’s NextGen District in the heart of the Antwerp port, Ohio, US-based Power to Hydrogen (P2H2) has signed up to install an AEM electrolyser, which the project partners say will be the “largest in the world.”
Despite not disclosing the capacity of the AEM system, the companies have said it will be installed during the fourth quarter of 2024.
P2H2’s Clean Energy Bridge™ AEM electrolyser systems are claimed to cost less than equivalent PEM systems due to its low PGM catalyst and a 200+ bar operation which it says “eliminates compression” to achieve storage pressures.
The company was selected for $6.6m of funding by the US Department of Energy (DOE) in March (2024) to focus on building out the US domestic supply chain for manufacturing.
Seeing financial support from American Electric Power, EDP, E.ON and ESB as part of the Free Electrons Utility innovation programme, the Belgian trial is hoped to demonstrate the potential of the electrolyser technology in reducing the cost of green hydrogen production.
Paul Matter, CEO of Power to Hydrogen, said, “With our installation in NextGen Demo, we want to demonstrate that AEM electrolysis, which significantly reduces the cost of green hydrogen production, is capable of operating sustainability in a port environment.”
The NextGen Demo zone is a two-hectare site within Antwerp’s industrial cluster where start-ups, spin-off companies and pilot projects can test new technologies.
In 2022, Plug Power announced it would build a 100MW green hydrogen plant in Antwerp, as part of the NextGen District.
Jacques Vandermeiren, CEO of Port of Antwerp-Bruges, said the zone was the “quintessential” place where new technology finds access to the “fabric of the port and industry.”

Belgian hydrogen factories are delayed for years
TOBE STEEL April 2, 2024
Due to the difficult market conditions, the energy company Engie has been postponing a major hydrogen project in Charleroi for at least a year and a half. The arrival of the American Plug Power in Antwerp is also delayed. Even with subsidies worth millions, investors will not be able to complete the financial picture for the time being.
.....
In Belgium, it looks like the large hydrogen plant that the American Plug Power wants to build on the former Opel site in the port of Antwerp will also be delayed. The company recently provided its Antwerp subsidiary with 7 million euros in start-up capital and submitted a permit application. When the project was announced two years ago, it was stated that the investment of around 300 million euros should produce a working factory by 2025. With a capacity of 100 megawatts, the factory would then produce 12,500 tons of green hydrogen annually.
The permit application shows that deals have now been concluded with local partners, such as the power producers Vleemo and Luminus - to provide the necessary renewable energy - and with the water purifier Ekopak, which will supply the water to make hydrogen. But on a web page presenting Plug Power's Chymia project, the start-up date has been pushed back two years to an expected 2027. Despite repeated questions, no one at the American company was available for explanation.

More BAD News :
From Another Board:
"Just thought I should share some news that I read in a Belgian paper the other day. Apparently the project that they were going to do in Antwerp is postponed until 2027. Even with subsidies in place, the project is considered too risky. You see this development across the board. Companies are hesitant to invest in green hydrogen production, since infrastructure is not in place, costs are too high, and demand is weak. There is currently too much uncertainty surrounding these projects which is why many companies either delay or cancel green hydrogen projects.
The hydrogen hype has been over for a while now, but it now seems it might come to a definite end. It's not looking well for us green hydrogen investors. "

Spokane Hydrogen Power Company Closing Plant, 107 Jobs Go
John McKay Published: April 11, 2024
Spokane hydrogen power cell plant closing.
According to company information online:
"Plug Power Inc. is an American company engaged in the development of hydrogen fuel cell systems that replace conventional batteries in equipment and vehicles powered by electricity." (Wikipedia)
The company is based out of Latham, New York, and has plants in Spokane and Rochester New York.
A WARN alert was released this week indicating 107 workers will be laid off in June, due to what ESD said was a "closing."
According to Morningstar online, the company announced layoffs that will save the company about $75 million, and help with restructuring going forward.
.....
No word was specifically given as to why they are closing the Spokane plant, but it could be related to the state of natural gas pipelines in WA under Gov. Inslee's green energy mandates. Hydrogen, if it achieves widespread use, would or could utilize these natural gas pipelines as well.
There has been a noticeable development movement in the area of hydrogen energy in Eastern WA.
The layoffs are expected to commence, and then wrap up in June.

Jeonju City builds two liquefied hydrogen charging stations
Charging infrastructure added to Sanglim, Songcheon, and Jeonmi-dong this year
Reporter Choi In-young Entered 2024.04.11
[Today Energy Reporter Choi In-young] Jeonju City, Jeollabuk-do, announced plans to build two liquefied hydrogen charging stations and one gaseous hydrogen charging station this year to expand the use of hydrogen vehicles.
Jeonju City announced on the 11th that, in addition to the four hydrogen charging stations currently in operation, it plans to build three additional stations this year to provide a stable supply of hydrogen energy and increase the convenience of charging for hydrogen vehicle drivers.
Previously, from 2020 to 2023, Jeonju City built hydrogen charging stations in a total of four locations: Songcheon-dong, Samcheon-dong, Pyeonghwa-dong, and Saekjang-dong. This year, a total of three stations are planned to be built, including Sanglim Hydrogen Station, Songcheon Liquid Hydrogen Station, and Jeonmi Liquid Hydrogen Station.
The liquefied hydrogen charging station, which will be installed for the first time this year, is expected to contribute to the spread of hydrogen commercial vehicles such as hydrogen buses and hydrogen trucks as it has a larger facility capacity than the existing gas system and enables fast charging.
The Sanglim Hydrogen Charging Station is being promoted by Jeonbuk City, entrusting the construction project to the Jeonbuk Development Corporation, and approximately 3.1 billion won, including national and provincial expenses, will be invested. Songcheon Liquefied Hydrogen Charging Station and Jeonmi Liquefied Hydrogen Charging Station are being promoted by Hyosung Hydrogen and SK Plug Hybus, respectively, and each charging station will invest approximately 11 billion won, including government funds.
The Songcheon liquid hydrogen charging station is scheduled to begin operation in June, and the Sanglim charging station and Jeonmi liquid hydrogen charging station are scheduled to begin operation in September.
An official from Jeonju City said, “If the number of hydrogen charging stations in the Jeonju area increases to 7, the daily supply of hydrogen fuel will approximately triple from the existing 2,150 kg to 6,400 kg,” adding, “About 1,200 hydrogen passenger cars and 350 hydrogen buses per day.” “This is the amount that can be recharged,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Jeonju City has been providing subsidies for the purchase of hydrogen vehicles since 2019 to expand the supply of hydrogen vehicles, and announced that it plans to purchase and support a total of 330 vehicles, including 211 hydrogen passenger cars and 119 hydrogen buses, this year.

MOL Group inaugurates green hydrogen plant following 22 million Euro investment
Petre Barac APRIL 11, 2024
MOL Group has handed over a 10 megawatt capacity green hydrogen plant in Százhalombatta (Hungary) which is the largest in Central and Eastern Europe. The 22 million Euro investment makes fuel production more sustainable: the plant will reduce the Danube Refinery’s carbon dioxide emissions by 25 000 tonnes. MOL will be able to produce 1,600 tonnes of green hydrogen per year.
The new technology will gradually replace the natural gas-based production process, which currently accounts for one sixth of the MOL Group’s total carbon dioxide emissions. The plant will start producing in the second half of 2024: MOL will use the green hydrogen primarily in its own network for fuel production.
Plug Power’s electrolysis equipment uses electricity from renewable sources to break down water into hydrogen and oxygen. This means that no polluting by-products are generated and, in fact, the plant produces 8-9 tonnes of pure oxygen per tonne of hydrogen.
“MOL Group has reached another milestone: we can now produce green hydrogen without producing any greenhouse gases. Using this technology, we are able to achieve the same emissions reduction as if we took roughly 5,500 cars off the road overnight. Today, our new green hydrogen plant is only making MOL’s industrial operations greener, but tomorrow it will offer solutions for the whole industry and hydrogen mobility. After Száhalombatta, we will take the technology to the other two fuel production units of the group to make the fuel production process more sustainable at each of MOL Group’s refineries” said József Molnár, CEO of MOL Group, at the inauguration ceremony of the new green hydrogen plant.

NO. I'm not LONG !
I am covering a short position ... DEEP IN THE MONEY !
As we walk this DOWN to $2.82, I have bids in all the way down to $2.80.
I have a $2.92 still unfilled.

Banger - I'm pretty sure that you are guessing and that it is a WAG at that.
Wishful Thinking ?
When PLUG first applied for this Loan the share price was $10 .
PLUG has fallen 67% and that trend is continuing. And the share count grows every day.
I don't know anyone who would loan a penny to this company until they see some Fiscal Discipline .
pretty sure the DOE have already approved it but it has to go to Congress (the OMB in particular) for approval, that is what we are waiting for.
At that point they start drawing up the detailed loan paperwork and fixing the numbers.
I can imagine the OMB is asking the DOE - why not 6 separate loans not one big one…
Someone Just Hit my $2.96 BID !
Is PLUG Selling ATM shares Today ?
I have a $2.92 still unfilled.
of course you do you are short. Dah!
I really hope the DOE Loan is REJECTED !
PLUG is another Solyndra, and DOE would just be throwing good money after bad.... Our money.
PLUG has already proven many times that they are NOT capable stewards of investor's money and our money could be better spent elsewhere.
That would be nice, but at this point I just don't see it unless the big boys of WS have this planned. Carvana was a shocker to me. I had a nephew that worked there and left figuring it was going under. I was shocked when it took off and still not sure why. Maybe, just maybe, if the DOE loan and 45V gets passed in our favor and we start showing decreasing losses and decent revenues then it could happen, but figure more likely Andy and Paul do something dumb again. At this point few have any faith in these guys so it is up to them to make people believe again that they can pull this off. At this point there is no proof and until we see improvements with the continued dilution it will be hard to move the stock up. I just see them more than likely taking the easy out and a redo.
Here is an interesting read :
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/1-wall-street-analyst-thinks-134500037.html
I hope the DOE loan will be approved this week.
And Positive PR ? Have we seen ANY meaningful positives out of PLUG lately ? The LACK of positive news is also very concerning.
Andy is saving the positive PRs for the sunny days 😎
Steve - We agree. If the ATM ends, PLUG will need to find more $$$ somewhere. It certainly won't be coming from cash flows anytime soon.
More Debt and More Dilution and Selling some Limbs or Vital Organs? All of these options are painful.
My VALID Concern is that PLUG lacks the management horsepower to pull off the miracle you and BOB are hoping for.
The DOE loan and 45v will be positive bumps, but NOT enough to reverse this Negative Trend.
And Positive PR ? Have we seen ANY meaningful positives out of PLUG lately ? The LACK of positive news is also very concerning.
I think it will be like Carvana (CNVA) in 2023.

No, I am not. It will be a great year for Plug Power, just like Carvana (CNVA) in 2023.

B_B - Nice Chart !
18.77 Million say , NEGATIVE.
BB, sure we are under attack and that is because Andy and Paul lack of good stewardship and mismanagement. Add to that the missing of projections every quarter and flat out lies and deception on what is actually going on have killed our credibility. They caused the shorts to be so successful. They are just the buzzards of Wall street. After we have gone through the ATM and assuming we get the DOE loan they will need more cash for the next round of expansion. They are not going to dilute us futher with another round around $5 a share. They will likely want the share price at least $25-$50 before they do that and the only way we likely get there is a reverse split. Again, take a look at the Root example. If the timing is right, you can create a squeeze, assuming the model they have proposed actually can become a profitable If they can show signs of better margins, increasing revenues and a path to being profitable it can work. The big if is can they get it done and is their model feasible?
DOE loan - POSITIVE
Q1 - POSITIVE
45V - POSITIVE
(my expectations 🤣)
An Increase in Overall Short Interest ...
And you think this is positive ?
I think some are betting on negative news from DOE and 45v and Q.
POSITIVE, POSITIVE and POSITIVE 🤣
the order is: DOE loan, Q1 and 45V
and more POSITIVE press releases in between
An increase in Short Interest is usually a bearish indicator.
I think some are betting on negative news from DOE and 45v and Q.

Thai company aims to bring hydrogen-powered vehicles to the market
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 10, 2024 Jarupong Krisanaraj
Take the transport sector and its emphasis on electric vehicles. Commercial electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Nex Point Plc is taking clean fuel one step further by signing a memorandum of understanding with two Japanese firms - Toyota Group’s trading arm Toyota Tsusho and automotive components manufacturer Denso - to develop hydrogen fuel cell vehicle (FCEV) trucks and analyse the feasibility of commercial utilisation in Thailand.
.....
Khanist expects the project to help promote hydrogen as an alternative energy along with batteries. Applying hydrogen to commercial vehicles can boost its longest distance to 1,000 kilometres compared to 300 kilometres from batteries alone.
.....
According to Toyota Tsusho, the prototype of Thailand’s first FCEV truck is expected to be completed within the fourth quarter of this year.
After that, trials of the FCEV truck will be conducted for three years between May 2025 and March 2028. The vehicle is expected to take a role in Thailand’s transport sector from April 2028 onwards.

HysetCo secures €200M to accelerate hydrogen refueling
HysetCo has converted over 500 professionals (primarily taxi drivers) to its solution and distributes nearly 30 tonnes of hydrogen each month.
Cate Lawrence 18 minutes ago
Clean hydrogen project investor Hy24 has joined forces with HysetCo, a company at the forefront of developing hydrogen-powered transportation solutions. Together, they have secured nearly €200 million in funding to speed up making transportation more environmentally friendly.
Green hydrogen offers a system-wide solution to the challenge of decarbonising mobility, with applications spanning intensive use, heavy transport, captive fleets, and light commercial vehicles (LCVs).
Hydrogen offers zero emissions at the point of use, silent operation, no odour, or vibrations, effortless refueling in three to five minutes, and a remarkable range of up to 600 km.
However, access to hydrogen refuelling has arguably been the biggest barrier to mass adoption and mainstream commercialisation. This creates a chicken and egg problem where a lack of refueling access disincentivises hydrogen vehicle ownership, and a lack of vehicles disincentives an increase in refuelling options.
France has been betting big on hydrogen since launching a national plan in June 2018. It aims to have 225 hydrogen stations available by 2025, with the possibility of up to 1000 by 2030.
In response, HysetCo has developed an integrated mobility solution to facilitate a system-wide transition to hydrogen.
In addition to providing convenient access to its network of hydrogen distribution stations, HysetCo offers customers a comprehensive turnkey solution, encompassing all services related to vehicle usage, from procurement to maintenance, repair, insurance, and training.
HysetCo has successfully converted over 500 professionals (primarily taxi drivers) to its solution and now distributes nearly 30 tonnes of hydrogen every month. The company owns the world’s largest fleet of hydrogen taxis, operated by Hype.
In 2021, it acquired Slota Group, a long-standing Parisian taxi operator. It added 150 Peugeot E-Expert hydrogen vans to its fleet in February 2024, which currently includes the Toyota Mirai and Renault Master van.

I don’t think Andy needs to do a reverse split. If he can get the share price above $5, it will continue to rise.
The put-call ratio is falling, this is bullish and it will give some support.
The volume is decreasing while the short interest is increasing, ideal for a short squeeze.

Steve - A Reverse Split .... So Soon ?
Lipstick on a PIG. Mostly optics.
A 5/1 split wouldn't move the needle, 10/1 demonstrates just how Pathetic PLUG has become.
It does remove the "Penny Stock" label , and signals that there is still room to the downside.
Weird, they are past the times of having hot flashes. All kidding aside I followed another stock awhile back and while it is in a different industry (car insurance) it also was heavily shorted and now soaring. Looking back on it they had a reverse split and the stock continued down and when earnings got better (granted they still had a loss) the stock has taken off. The stock goes by the symbol ROOT. I just wonder if Andy is thinking of doing the same. While it would kill the long timers, the new shareholders buying after the reverse split and the stock most likely sinking after that would do well as margins should be getting better, cost down and revenue creeping back up. This would be a way for Andy and Plug to get a do over after having screwing things up the first time. At least the timing of green H2 would be better if this is done later this year or 2025 when losses should start coming down. I don't see profits anytime soon unless we get the DOE and 45v more favorable. If you were Andy, would you not be thinking the same thing?
European court rules human rights violated by climate inaction
1 hour ago By Georgina Rannard
A group of older Swiss women have won the first ever climate case victory in the European Court of Human Rights.
The women, mostly in their 70s, said that their age and gender made them particularly vulnerable to the effects of heatwaves linked to climate change.
The court said Switzerland's efforts to meet its emission reduction targets had been woefully inadequate.
It is the first time the powerful court has ruled on global warming.

Last-mile drone delivery with pinpoint accuracy launched by H2 Clipper
By HAZEL KING April 5, 2024
H2 Clipper (H2C), an aerospace and alternative energy company, has been awarded a US patent for its ‘warehouse in the sky’ that includes the integration of aerial drones to enable pinpoint pick-up and last-mile delivery accuracy for commercial, consumer and humanitarian use.
The technology uses a beacon such as a dedicated device or personal cell phone to enable package delivery by drone for major delivery companies such as Amazon, FedEx, UPS and DHL, particularly in remote locations. Uniquely, the beacon also permits package returns from rural areas and remote global villages to put those items into international commerce.
The technology also has the ability to launch drones from a dirigible, allowing the drones to use all onboard energy to lift heavier packages rather than using that same energy to fly to the drop-off or pickup zone, resulting in efficient use of every route. It also has charging bays for the aerial drones to recharge between short flights, which further reduces package delivery and retrieval time and the number of trips, and an onboard camera to provide proof of delivery.
