This is a test to see if Ben is still in Dover.
I just found out he has moved to Dune, so in future he will be known as Ben Dune.
I agree with you. Let's see if we can tell when it happens.
I'm looking at a 10-point P&F chart which shows a Price Objective of 2250 - and is also forming a high pole.
For the Dow, a P.O. of 11100 - another high pole.
I'd be getting scared about now - a retracement is bound to happen shortly, IMO.
I've been out of the office. <G>
Anyway, tell me what you see on the long term COMP chart right now...
Gosh - I made that post in 2002!
But thanks. <g>
Actually, your analogy is more precise than you imagined. It is in fact like a flat plane on the bottom. Great analogy, I wish I would have thought of it myself.
To put it a different way, a Nessie is a specific kind of "decending triangle".
Yes, I have. Quite a bit, as a matter of fact!
I am Capital!
so what's going down with SI and IHub?
Have you made any progress with the projection techniques?
TLC,
Welcome home.
Have fun,
Phil
it vanished
let's try this
Ok, it's time to get busy again. Seeya later. MM
Don't let me stop you!
It has to be able to be reduced to code.
It is odd, but people seem to be different in the way they understand things. Left brain, right brain, up brain, down brain. <g>
I have asked him and I always translate what he says into my own way of counting. He says it can't be counted the way I'm trying to. I like your bouncing ball losing momentum analogy.
Think of a bouncing ball: it bounces one and reaches a certain height; the second time that height is reduced; and so forth. This analagy is not a good one, because a bouncing ball always bounces from a level surface. A Nessie goes lower and lower. There are exact points you can calculate as to these points.
Ask TLC!
I only have a vague idea what Nessie looks like.
I haven't been looking lately, being in class all day this week, and having company last week. You?
Have you seen Nessie?
What's TLC been up to lately?
Can you repost the link to the gif?
Where's the Captain?
An old message board wakes up!
Did for me
Have fun,
Phil
Gif didn't come through.
but we were more like:
I liked being a pirate
I found it by accident also.. I was just mulling around in mouse properties and set it by mistake. Been that way ever since. It's so much easier then wheeling or dragging that damn bar up and down..
I also have a Mouseman 2 4 button with the wheel on another computer. I use it for solitaire. The thumb button is set to double click. It's great for moving the cards up to the top row.. My best time was 75 seconds. :)
Until you said that, I had no idea my mouse worked that way. I had one long ago that the scroll wheel was a double-click if you pressed it, but I just found out that in addition to rolling the wheel to scroll on this one, you can click the wheel, then move your mouse in the direction you want to scroll. And, yes, the further away, the faster. Sweet!
This is some PoS optical mouse but it seems to be working fine now. For the longest time after I bought it, a single click would keep getting sent as a double-click. I guess frequently slamming it down on the desk in frustration is just what it wanted.
I'll have to try smacking our servers around next time they act up and see if that helps.
That's why I still use the venerable Wingman gaming mouse. I just have the middle button set for scroll. You click it on the screen and a 4 way arrow appears. When you move the mouse up or down or side to side the screen moves. The further away you get from the arrows the faster the screen moves. So it's very accurate. When reading a very long page I just set it to scroll slowly. No wheelin'
When Logitech made them they were 25 bucks. Now that they are out of production I just bought 4 of them off Ebay for 60 bucks a piece. I figured I'd better get em now before they're gone for good.
I now have a few in stock. :)
Yes but Power Spec uses a lot of integrated stuff which is ok for the average guy who's just surfing..
I could build their 2.4 system for less and get an Audigy platinumeX card to boot. I use the Sony CDRW and DVD drives. The Geforce is the best card. But not by much.. The ATI Radeon 8500 is all you need for the games that are played online today. The one's coming out by Xmas you're going to need the Geforce for. By then Geforce'll drop by half in price.
Wholesale prices are good.. But at a show you are face to face with these guys and you have the wad of cash in your hand. It's a great bargining tool when haggling. :)
I used to think I wouldn't like those, but anytime I have to use a regular mouse these days, I always find myself trying to roll a non-existent wheel.
If I had to buy proprietary, Dell would be at or near the top of my list.
I used to always roll my own, but the PowerSpec is available locally for about what I'd pay to buy the parts wholesale, and there's nothing proprietary about them. Good components, too. Except for the hard drives.
I got this particular setup because the price was right.
I mean EXACTLY right. *G*
Hey Moe! Hey Moe! I can't see!
I liked the "mouse with wheel" the best. *G*
Hahaha.. You got in trouble..
I love Dell equipment. But you are absolutely right about the proprietary crapola..
I just build my own boxes now. It's easy and cheaper. Just go to the Computer Show on Saturday and by Sunday I'm crankin'.
I don't personally buy anything that's got anything proprietary about it. Yesterday's adventure in replacing hard drives was a good example of why.
But

All I can say on that is "Dude!"
I almost ended up buying one of these yesterday to replace the webserver: http://www.powerspec.com/systems/system_specs.phtml?selection=8940
Problem was, it comes with the dreaded WD drive. And the webserver doesn't need the fancy video. Actually both machines at the ISP have both a fast CD drive and a CD-RW drive, along with more video than they need.
And since nothing about these machines is proprietary, it'd be a lot cheaper to just replace the motherboards, CPU's, and memory. The machines I'm using "only" support 1.5 gig of memory (enough, but in the SQL box's case, "more" is always good) and it's not DDR266.
Sometimes it sucks being a geek. I'd love for the site to be running on 2.4Ghz machines (or multiple-CPU P4's when/if they're ever available) with gobs of really fast memory, and an array of 10k-RPM SCSI drives, but even if we had 9 times as much activity (which SI does) upgrading to machines like that likely wouldn't have any measurable, let alone noticeable, impact on speed. 9 times as much activity might push us up to 40% utilization on these machines. Hard getting a grasp on the fact that if everyone on SI suddenly moved over here, there wouldn't be a slowdown unless they were posting about 3 times as much.
A far cry from when I first visited SI long ago and their quad-CPU SQL Server was running a constant 100% utilization.
8:55AM: Not much enthusiasm in the futures market as a generally negative newsflow has weighed on sentiment... Presently, the S&P futures, at -6.0, are 8.0 points below fair value while the Nasdaq 100 Pre-Market Indicator is down 7.94 points... Yesterday's disappointing action, and broad-based losses in European markets, are contributing to the lack of buying interest... The weakness in Europe follows on the heels of an unexpected drop-- the first in six months-- in German Business confidence...
Closer to home, U.S. indices are expected to start the session on a weak note as underlying concerns about the timing, and strength, of a rebound in corporate profits have left investors reluctant to commit new money to the market... Notable laggards in pre-market action include Tyco (TYC 22.47 -4.22), Dynegy (DYN 23.30 -5.75), McAfee.com (MCAF 14.05 -4.49) and Network Associates (NET 20.30 -3.36)
Real time. I had to go back and look. <g> I should have posted to the other guy, not you.
No you didn't..
