Yes sir... only the rule is newbies should'nt outdrive those who came before... out of respect! LOL
AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Gary Player is set this week to make his last trip down Magnolia Lane as a competitor in the Masters.
The nine-time major champion who was the first international player to win at Augusta National in 1961 said Monday that this year's Masters, his 52nd, will be his last.
"It's difficult at [age] 73 to build strength, and this golf course is so long,'' Player said. "I'm hitting a wood to almost every single hole. ... I've managed to break 80 the last two years, but I've gotten to the stage where I don't know whether I can do that out here, it's so long and I'm getting weaker.
"I'm hitting it so short now, I can hear it land,'' Player joked.
Player, who also won the tournament in 1974 and 1978, played a practice round Monday with fellow South Africans Trevor Immleman and Louis Oosthuizen and Germany's Martin Kaymer.
Part of the "Big Three'' in the 1960s along with Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, Player won 24 times on the PGA Tour, 19 times on the Champions Tour and counts 110 international victories on his resume.
His last victory on the PGA Tour came in 1978 at the Houston Open, which capped a three-week run of tournaments in which he shot a final-round 30 to win the Masters at age 42, followed by a win at the tournament of Champions.
He called that Masters victory his highlight.
"It was just a reward for me, because nobody [then] had won at 42,'' Player said. "I came back on the final day and won the tournament.''
Player's lowlight, he said, came in 1962 when he had a chance to become the first player to win back-to-back majors.
"I was playing with Arnold,'' Player recalled. "We got to 16 and I hit the ball 12 foot from the hole. And he hit the worst looking shot to the right of the green, not even on the green. He was on the fringe. And the flag was that bottom left-hand corner and I said to my caddie, "We've won."
But Palmer holed the putt, then birdied the 17th and they were tied after 72 holes with Dow Finsterwald. Palmer won the next day in an 18-hole playoff.
Player's first Masters was in 1957, when he tied for 24th. At the time, he was chided for his weight training, as it was believed to hurt golfers. Today, Player remains an advocate for health and fitness.
Over a 25-year period, Player had 15 top-10 finishes in the tournament. He also won three British Opens, two PGA Championships and one U.S. Open. When Player won the U.S. Open in 1965, he became just the third player -- along with Gene Sarazen and Ben Hogan -- to capture a career Grand Slam, victories in all four majors championships. Nicklaus and Tiger Woods are the only players to join the exclusive group.
Player said he would not lobby to be an honorary starter at the Masters along with Palmer, who now does those duties solo. But when pressed, Player said he would do so if asked. "Would I? Of course I would,'' he said.
And then he added.
"I'll even exercise harder to make sure I outdrive Arnold.''
Tee it UP!! You have the honors.
welcome! make yourself at home!
cheers

Me too! When Lefty does good, we lefties get to get better equipment from the retail shops. That's why I root for Wier, Flesch, O'Hern and the likes as well. Being left handed in golf is like being a minority (without the real trials & tragedies to back it up).
VERY TRUE! I hope he holds his OH GOD NO's to a minimum this week cuz I wanna see him at the top (either winning or 2nd place will do fine for me)
Or Mickelson could be T22, as I predicted. Depends on his "Oh, GOD NO!!" driver this week. It crept back into the bag last week and left him not knowing whether to scratch his watch or wind his butt!
Sure thing! Have a great evening! Can't wait til Thursday!!!
Thanks... not sure tho about Paddy... that's why I figured him to come in under Ogilvy and Phil, but Paddy might just surprise us. I also think Phil and Tiger both have a VERY GOOD shot at winning the masters! Phil might just do it as he's been on FIRE this year... but my money is still on Tiger!

Your picks are hard to argue with for sure. I just have a feeling that the Aussies will get off the schneid this week. Ogilvy is looking pretty solid!
P.S. Paddy seems to lost ees pot o' gold!
thanks, I'll start a list of everyone later on this evening.
I wish I looked like Tiger in my golf garb - instead of:
Yeah, I went ALL-IN on Friday with FAZ @ 15.66 (unsecured funds) and watched it drop to around 15 in a matter of 4 minutes. Spent the whole weekend trying to get my office chair cushion out of my ass! Thank God it's up a little today, but it was a big enough purchase that I can't deposit to cover a sell before Wednesday (settlement date), so I sit and wait!
Very nice! Lines right up with my picks for 1 and 2

Not scientific breakdown, but the obvious MR on Tiger and/or Phil:
Tiger - Puts more value on winning (anytime, anywhere) than good performance, solid play, purse, stature, location, etc...
Phil - Feels he can win if the above are in the right place, but needs to have several of the key components in place BEFORE he feels he can win
Analysis:
Tiger - Grinder = #1
Phil - Not a grinder = #2
Have you done regression/multiple regression analysis on Phil or any of the other players?
Me too, as is evident by his 2 wins already (always has 2 or more by May - and then ends the season with a whimper). But you have to admit, when he stinks this year - HE STINKS!! I like him for the same reason I have followed Kyle Busch in NASCAR since he started driving - "CHECKERS OR WRECKERS, BABY!!!"
My Picks:
Tiger - pickin him to win it (wouldn't want to pick against him)
Phil Mickelson - a very close 2nd
Geoff Ogilvy - 3rd
Padraig Harrington - 4th
after that... who knows...
I think Phil is going to be hot this year.
I'm pulling for Mickelson, as usual - but I really don't think he has it in place for this one. With 2 GJ's and a PGA as well as his lackluster performances in the British Open, I think his main focus now is getting his US Open. Then again, he is either HOT or cold this year, so it wouldn't surprise me if he is at the top or bottom of the field!
hahaha
Just remember, bold does not necessarily mean beautiful.
Mahan's got some momo going.
We'll see if he can keep it going.
If Mahan can keep putting like he did this weekend and JB can limit the "OH SHIT - LEFT" to a couple - they both set up very nicely for Augusta. Mahan was the class of the field yesterday, in strong winds, because of his putter.
pf is BOLD at everything..LOL the bold and the beautiful
MASTERS Picks Don..?
GM
My predictions are as follows:
Geoff Ogilvy is the 2009 Masters Champion!!!
My top 5'ers
2. TW (might make me look foolish for picking against him - just a gut feeling)
3. Rors (will be in contention, but lack of experience at Augusta will do him in)
4. Johnny Wad (J.B. Holmes - my sleeper pick #1)
5. Hunter Mahan (my sleeper #2)
Mickelson T22,
My "No-Brainer" pick - Freddie Couples will still be COOL!!
lurker from mars says he's the sleeeper, he's gonna take the tourney..
LOL
GM jackson
Woods makes a run at it...I will give him a run for his money, tie and go to sudden death...I'll win cuz I have the teeth though....
Who's going to be the sleeper that gives him a run for his money and loses it on Sunday?
Go sticky..
we'll get some other picks as we go, I am sure Firemandave will pitch in and some others..
thanks, welcome
HS5
penny_foolish bro, bud...

Slam us with your picks when you can..

2009 Masters Prediction
Tiger shoots -10 and takes it all.

sorry bro, you're locked up for 3 years...see ya around..LOL
All eyes were on this week's Kodak Challenge hole as Tiger Woods won his first tournament in eight months with a thrilling 15-foot birdie putt while the impending darkness would have created a playoff on Monday. After a ferocious comeback on Sunday, Tiger, who had struggled on 18 so far, followed a beautiful drive with a perfect approach shot and capped it with a flawless putt to create a memorable moment for all. Will MacKenzie, Steve Lowery and Ryuji Imada also managed to birdie the par 4, joining D.J. Trahan, J.B. Holmes, Chris DiMarco and Kevin Sutherland atop the Kodak Challenge leaderboard. Holmes double-bogeyed Thursday to drop into a tie for third place; however, his par on Friday erased the double-bogey and brought him back into a tie for first.
What's new for fans
Also this week, fans were able to check out the new Kodak Fan Photo Zone at the 18th tee to see great play and create their own memories of the beautiful 18th hole by having their picture taken in front of a green screen with this week's Kodak Challenge hole. The backdrop image, provided by former LPGA player and noted golf photographer, Joann Dost, allowed fans to have a memorable picture of themselves at the golf course during tournament play when cameras are not typically allowed. The photos were printed on-site with Kodak printers, providing a keepsake right at the hole. In addition, fans were able to take advantage of this hands-on booth to learn about Kodak's latest products and how they can even be used for their golf game -- on and off the course.
