My spousal_unit did NOT approve of some of your past picks.
Go see the movie and tell me if you view him as a good guy.
Sorry for the spelling errors. Fat fingers on my phone
My son is a huge Dylan fan. He has senn him at least 20 tomes all over the world
“I heard The Substance was very hard to watch.
Maybe I'll just wait for your complete assessment.....”
It was extremely hard to watch
Do not recommend
I'm glad A Complete Unknown didn't win anything.
The only thing I found in that movie is a reassurance that I don't like Bob Dylan. He seemed to be a miserable person who didn't appreciate the help he got from others.
I totally forgot the Oscars were on last night and watched 1923 instead.
I'm listening to the radio guys talking about Anora today and all the sex in the beginning. So it's like a porno! I'm in!
I heard The Substance was very hard to watch.
Maybe I'll just wait for your complete assessment..........then go watch The Princess Bride.
Actually they both are in the theater near me but I’m not sure if I will get there today or tomorrow
There are still 2 movies nominated that I won’t get to see before tomorrow night, I’m Still Here and A Complete Unknown.
They are not available at home yet and they are also not showing in any of the theaters near me.
Movie # 8 - Nickel Boys
Interesting movie that had me confused much of the time but I didn’t dislike it. I actually had to google Nickel Boys explained after I watched it. I was surprised when I did.
Revised List
1) Conclave
2) Anora
3) Wicked
4) The Brutalist
5) Emilia Perez
6) Nickel Boys
7) Dune 2
8)The Substance
It was better both in the theaters and the Play. I just don't like it being split up.
I watched some cartoon about a cat on TV the other day. I think it is up for an Oscar as well.
What the heck has happened to the Academy?
Movie # 7 - The Brutalist
Two words - too long
With that said, it wasn’t bad and I didn’t fall asleep. I did find myself at times a little lost because my mind had started to wander. That’s the good thing about watching it at home. I can rewind and replay. Adrian Brody has won awards for his role and I can see why. He was very good.
Revised List
1) Conclave
2) Anora
3) Wicked
4) The Brutalist
5) Emilia Perez
6) Dune 2
7) The Substance
Movie #6 is Wicked. I liked it but I didn’t love it. I think the reason I didn’t love it can be for two reasons:
1) seeing it on Broadway was so much more exciting.
2) I watched it at home and it probably would have been better in the theater.
Revised List
1) Conclave
2) Anora
3) Wicked
4) Emilia Perez
5) Dune 2
6) The Substance
Companion is a lot like Princess Bride......except for the Princess.....or the giant. You'll LOVE IT
I won't go to our Mall. Too many shootings
I can't believe you haven't moved from that cesspool yet. You'd be welcome to certain parts of Texas.....not my neighborhood!....but other parts.
In my backyard I put up a back the blue flag for the police and someone called me out for being a .....DEMOCRAT!!
How are theaters surviving?
Around here, they aren’t.
The local theater closed a while back. I was actually surprised it lasted as long as it did because when I used to go there were about 10 people in the theater.
Another theater was slated to close about a year ago but it’s still open. The only theater that seems to be doing well is in the local mall which I avoid like the plague.
After I watch the remaining 5 Oscar movies I will check out Companion.
LOL...as if you'll listen to me!
I saw Companion yesterday. Maybe it's because I don't go to the movies often, but I found this one really creative.
Not sure how I felt about the ending as it was kind'a blah....but the movie was definitely..........fun.
Just when you thought Hollywood was outta ideas.
2.67 pickles
BTW, the Spousal and I were trying to recall the last really good movie we've seen in the theaters and were coming up blank.
How are theaters surviving?
Remind me next year to NOT commit to watching every Oscar nominated movie.
I watched The Substance today. I did not know that it was a horror movie. I don’t like horror movies.
I will say that Demi Moore was very good in it.
Updated list:
1) Conclave
2) Anora
3) Emilia Perez
4) Dune 2
5) The Substance
I am watching it but I haven’t watched the latest episode yet.
Did you say you are watching Deal or No Deal Island?
I know I've come into that in the middle, but it makes zero sense to me
Anora
I hadn’t heard anything about it and I didn’t recognize any of the actors but it turns out I liked it. I thought Mikey Madison was very good.
List:
Conclave
Anora
Emilia Perez
Dune 2
I am sure people liked it but it’s not for me
My son said Dune 2 was great, but I didn't see Dune 1
Next nominee I watched is Dune 2.
This is definitely not my type of movie and I was pretty much lost throughout. That could be because I fell asleep during the first Dune movie.
List:
1) Conclave
2) Emilia Perez
3) Dune 2
I've been looking forward to September 5 coming out in theaters, but now I see it is hitting Amazon at the same time. Why go to theaters any more? I can watch it at home with closed caption and pause it for bathroom breaks.
Covid killed the movie experience and I'm not sure it will ever come back. It's weird, but lately it seems I'm noticing more and more things that are vanishing with no reason to return.
I never heard of a bunch of them either.
HBO and Showtime are showing some 2024 movies so I have been watching them.
Last night I watched Ride which was about rodeo people. I wasn't sure if I would like it and I did doze off a bit but rewound it and then watched the whole thing.
It was ok. 3.0/4
This is crazy! Here's Rotten Tomatoes list of top movies for 2024....
Not only have I not seen more than one or two of them, but I don't even recognize the names of most of the actors in them!!
reading the synopsis, most don't appeal to me at all.
Hollywood or whoever is now making movie decisions have ruined the movies for me!
https://editorial.rottentomatoes.com/guide/best-2024-movies-every-certified-fresh/
Not one of the Oscar nominees but I watched Goodrich today with Michael Keaton and Mika Kunis
This movie made me laugh and made me cry which is always good in my book.
3.5/4
We saw it here in Dallas and it was very good.
I'll be surprised if Frankie Grande's sister doesn't win as well.
Yeah, I know. But she also went up for something like soundtrack or editing or screenplay.
It was an odd moment as they were including her in who they thanked and she was standing behind them and they didn't know if she wanted to talk or what.
https://www.facebook.com/DailyMailVideo/videos/zoe-salda%C3%B1as-cringey-golden-globe-moment/1406633910719871/
I saw Wicked on Broadway twice and the first time was with Kristin Chenowith and Idina Menzel and I loved it.
I am worried that I will expect too much from the movie
The one who surprised me was Selena Gomez.
She was nominated for a Golden Globe for Emilia Perez and Only Murders in the Building.
She is awful IMO in Only Murders but I thought she was pretty good in Emilia.
She won the Golden Globe
Emilia Perez won a bunch of Golden Globes. Haven't watched it yet. I did find it funny that Zoe Saldana must have been so drunk, she kept going up on stage, even if she wasn't named for an award for the movie.
Oscar nominated movies are:

The Brutalist

A lot more of them since they decided to focus more on foreign films. I've only seen
A Complete Unknown
Wicked
The only thing I learned about Bob Dylan was, he was an even bigger jerk than I thought....though I don't think that was the message of the movie.
I enjoyed Wicked, but am always annoyed when they split a movie into two or three parts.
I am going to try to watch all of the Oscar nominated films like I did a few years ago.
So far I have watched 2. Emilia Pérez and The Conclave
Instead of giving a rating I am going to list them in order of good to not so good.
So far:
1. The Conclave
2. Emilia Perez
This is intriguing, although I'm not sure its entertaining, and I've never heard of this guy, but gotta say, his story sounds right. He's talking about places that I know are factual as to their locations. Oh.....the story, he claims to have shot Kennedy.
Haven't heard that song in quite some time
Before you watch that movie, listen to this song...
Also, Black Doves on Netflix was very good.
We just finished the season of No Good Deed.....Didn't think I'd like it and its marked as a comedy, but I'd disagree.
Not bad at all.
movie theater or Netflix?
I don't even know where to find podcasts
Carry On
I listen to Jason Bateman’s podcast and he makes me laugh. I wasn’t laughing at this movie.
Suspenseful and enjoyable.
3 out of 4 pickles
LOL....I dunno...I've watched some of your stuff from the past. You seem very............eclectic
Not for those lacking boldness or the facility of imagination.
Arcane: League of Legends
An adult animated steampunk action-adventure television series.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcane_(TV_series)
Cinemark sent me a free showing of Bonhoeffer: Pastor. Spy. Assassin....
I can't imagine this movie making any money. It was neither good nor bad, but was OK for what I paid for it.
I guess based on a true story, but one that probably didn't need making.
2 Pickles.
Also saw Red One......I liked this one. Very creative. Krampus stole the show. I'd give it 2 pickles
I went to see Gladiator II the other day. It was meh I guess. Nice effects as guy's riding a rhino. Did they actually fill the Colosseum with water?? And to think, we are impressed today with Cirque du Soleil. Anywho, I dunno......2 1/2 pickles I guess.
Exception (anime TV series)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exception_(TV_series)
Anime is hand-drawn and computer-generated animation.

A board to review, talk about, recommend your favorite movies, tv shows - reality and otherwise, actors, music, books, food, anything you feel like chatting about.
We like to use the pickle system around here, but feel free to rate as you see fit.
If you like the system, it goes as such
0 - 1....you would probably want to recommend to derf
1.01 - 2....better wait for HBO
2.01 - 3....worth a rental, maybe even a trip to the picture show
3.01 - 3.99....pretty much a must see, either in the theater or DVD.
4....WOW
