Can we discuss the LPGA tour? lol
I'm watching Michelle Wie whine about a ruling where she's obviously wrong and I can't stand it.
There's no way anyone who is watching this can't help but despise here after this.
I was thinking Asberger's Syndrome midway through page 1.
Wonderful story.
Our first Sticky. They very unique Moe Norman. A roommate of mine from early 20;s decicded to caddy for another buddy in the late 80's and they played in Moe's group - CPGA mini tour in florida - 4-6 event tour - That was my first introduction was the stories. The article hints at he may have been autistic. Based on what I have read i would guess that it was that or something similar in a mild form but never diagnosed or treated.
Incredible story and a must read
Damn, Buckey! I really want to thank you for that! I'm going to have to read it again when I have time this weekend.
And, of course, find more on him! I'd love to see a film of him hitting a ball.
I loved when he said wistfully, "I had that tee for 7 years". LOLOL
Put that link in the Ibox btw! And sticky it!
MOE NORMAN
I know I read this before - Its still a great read. What a Movie this would make.

I persoanlly took a power cart once last year other than those stupid charity scrambles which I detest.
Our course is a tough walk very hilly so it will be the occassional treat.
If it takes bribing to get him exposed to golf, so be it. lol
But a power cart? THAT'S where I draw the line! CARRY BAG!
I dont like bribing but It will be trade offs. He is one already spoiled kid but he can use my acct at the club and if he plays 9 holes to start he will get some computer time at home. We will take a power cart some also
The only thing I can think of is to just give him every opportunity to see if he takes to it. People either love it or hate it! lol
Other than making it enjoyable while he learns, like whacking balls at the driving range and going for ice cream after, there's little you probably can do.
There are a lot of bad golfers that just enjoy being outside and socializing with their friends. Then, there are a lot of good golfers who don't seem to enjoy it at all. Friends, or not.
But then, I don't have kids, so what do I know? lol
trying to completely ignore that other thing lol anyway I posted this on SI but will here too as i think it OT for other two golf threads.
Gents. Looking for some parenting advice.
MY son is starting golf this year as a member at 13 years old with his 14 year old buddies. He doesnt have much athletic interest and like many kids of today would be just as happy to play on the computer or PS3 all summer. That obviously will not be allowed regardless of what he does.
He has quite evrything in the past and I have great fears this will be a bust and Its not because its golf - I dont care if he is in the ballet. I just want his engaged in something other than Call of Duty
I basically am retired at 45 ( I own a business that runs itself so I can be there all day or I can on the course) so I can dedicet my entire summer.
I played every sport . I was a member at 10 with no parents as members but I loved it. I Played Baseball in CANADA LOL NO soccer, and fished all summer. MY summer busy.
Winters like all caunkc boys wa sin teh rink which I played right into Junior A and University SO for my son to shun Hockey completely even street hockey well - on one level I was hurt and on another it has gotten so crazy Im ok with it.
HOW CAN I GET HIM ENGAGED INHIT. GREAT NEWS IS HE HAS FRIENDS TO PLAY WITH. I WILL PLAY WITH HIM EARLY AND I HAVE UNLCES WHO WILL TAKE HIM OUT . I also am very close frinded with both pros.
any tips even little one would be a great help. as you can tell I am concerned and want to give him SOMTHING to enjoy
Ya...but no gloves!
Those 16 inch balls were hard as a rock when you first started using them...saw guys get their fingers broken. By the 4th inning or so they softened up...a lot...was like hitting a cantaloupe...lol
I wish the originators also had more land to work with and could have made a course 24 holes, instead of 18!
Btw, anyone can hit those wussy BIG softballs. ( :
Surprised you Chicagoans don't play tee ball, too. LOL!
Why Is the Diameter of the Golf Cup 4 1/4 Inches? The diameter of the golf cup evolved purely by chance. "Two golfers on the St. Andrews links found that one hole was so badly worn that they could not use it. Much of its sand had been removed by previous players for building tees. Anxious to repair the damage and continue their game, they looked around and discovered nearby part of an old drainpipe. They inserted this in the hole. It was the 1st 'cup,' and because it happened to measure 4 1/4" across, all cups are now that size."
Very good!
As I recall circumference is 2*pi*Radius...so a 4.25" hole comes out to 13.35"
But I was referring to the 16 inch softballs we used to use in Chicago...not those wussy 12 inch softballs....so I win!!! lol
WRONG! lol
A softball WILL fit.
I was wrong too, when first asked.
A softball is actually just under 4 inches in diameter, while the hole is 4 and 1/4.
Nope...
Cup is 4 inches in diameter as I recall...
What kind of moron is this guy?
Pro golfer gets 1 year in prison for not paying taxes
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP)Professional golfer Jim Thorpe has been sentenced to a year in prison for failing to pay more than $2 million in income taxes.
Thorpe's attorney, Mark Horwitz, said Friday that Thorpe must turn himself in to authorities by April 1. The golfer also was sentenced to two years of supervised release and 200 hours of community service. He must try to repay the taxes while he's on supervised release.
In September, Thorpe pleaded guilty to two counts of failing to pay income taxes and had faced up to two years in prison.
Horwitz said Thorpe "has accepted his punishment and will be getting on with his life."
Thorpe has won 13 times on the Champions Tour and three times on the PGA Tour.
Loving all this Jack loving on his 70th. feel good stuff
Bit of trivia for y'all.
Picture a softball.
Now, picture a golf hole.
Will a softball fit into the hole?
She's just blinking!
Very, very hard. lol
so much for keeping your eye on the ball. Her eyes are shut
That's different.
I'd play around with her. lol
For me, it's not the cold so much as it is the foot of snow. ( ;
I know you know
just making sure you know.. Cause I know
I am aware of that LOL
Hey, Buckey! Is bragging allowed here? lol
I just got back from my Florida vacation, where I shot a one over par round on a very tough course. I'm usually pretty happy when I just don't lose a ball or have to take a penalty stroke during a round!
Just when I thought my days of new personal bests were behind me. ( :
