Face it guys. Quality managements go to the IBM's and Exxon's of the world.
I thought we had Warren Buffett, jr. running the show. More like running a circus.
Me too. I forgot also.
Major pump job on META today. Glad I'm not in it. Heck, I'd rather be in HERB. Oh, I forgot, I am
Yes, lol. Don't be surprised if the Nasdaq comes crashing down after today.
Just crazy what they are doing with the markets again now.
Locked, and loaded...
GOOG dropping on SNAP earnings.
META is up tomorrow.
Earnings on thursday. I forgot to mention.
For APPL I'm guessing they want to give us all the bad news now and make up some more. Consumers could be delaying purchases due to the stock market rout.
I like this play at least as it pertains to GOOG. In the long term, I think ChatGPT could be a real risk to Google. So much so, I bought a lot of MSFT.
In the short-term (your play), the interest rate hike might be enough of a catalyst to tip the market.
I have feb 10 puts on GOOG and APPL. Joining me?
If you like container shipping you're going to love this!

I wonder what kind of currency trade George has on.
Gazprom has a pipeline going west to Europe and east to China & OGZPY is no longer trading in the U.S.....kind of predictable.
What U.S media is missing about the dollar....

Yes sir. I have mine parked in BOAT(etf), but ZIM will probably get a better return.
Ocean shipping is at the forefront of new fuels for the ESG movement. Ocean shipping companies are not ordering new ships because they don't know what kind of engines and fuels to put in 5 to 10 years out. Just fascinating!
In simplest terms I look at buying a ship as an Uber driver would buy a used car. Asset value + earnings power.
Example. I'm an Uber driver who can buy a used car valued at $10,000 for $5,000. OK, I buy it and drive it for 5 years earning money. Then someone offers me $15,000 for the car. I would probably sell it.
Btw used car prices in the U.S skyrocketed during the pandemic. Coming back down again.
Well, I wouldn't mind parking some of my money in that stock, is what I'm saying. Better than putting it in a bank.
A cyclical stock is a different animal. A cyclical stock looks expensive with a high p/e (low earnings) but that is when you want to buy them. A cyclical stock looks cheap with a low p/e (high earnings) but that is when you want to sell them.
Ocean shipping stocks are cyclical. IOW a trade, not an investment. Even shipowners know this that's why they are some of the best traders on earth and some of the best capital allocators. At the end of most conferences (always fascinating) they are asked how they would spend extra cash. Buybacks, dividends, buy more ships, pay down debt, etc.
If I were a trader ocean shipping would be my preferred vehicle. Macro trends, company fundaments, and which sector to buy i.e oil, drybulk, containerships, etc. Maybe one of the only growth sectors I see for ocean shipping is LNG (bullish).
Yes, container rates have come down substantially since the pandemic and prospects are not good near term. That is why the stock is so cheap, trading close to 35% of book value.
One thing I heard is that container rates went way up during the pandemic and the companies added more capacity (built more ships). Shipowners are notorious for that. They hurt themselves with that strategy. Unless these companies locked in long term charters at high rates I would be neutral on containerships.
Options are cheap too. Don't know if it is the right play though wit the potential dividends. But it could be for the next couple of months until they announce a dividend.
I will give ZIM an upgrade. It didn't occur to me that refrigerated containers are shipping fruits and vegetables.
Still not buying. No capital, unless I sell something
How a Steel Box Changed the World: A Brief History of Shipping (excellent 4 min. video, note that a truck driver came up with the concept)

Wouldn't want to be short the rabbit....
Year Of The Rabbit 2023
2023 is Year of the Rabbit. According to the Chinese Zodiac, also known as ‘Shengxiao’, we are all assigned a powerful animal – ‘Shuxiang’ – based on the year we are born based on the Luni-Solar calendar that has close ties with Chinese philosophy.
Legend has it that the Great Jade Emperor – Yu Di – ruler of the heavens, wanted to devise a way to measure time. So, he organised a race, where he challenged all the animals to cross the mighty river. The first twelve, would not only earn a spot on the calendar and zodiac, but would also be the guards of his heavenly realm.
Thus, these 12 animals represents the cycles of the Chinese zodiac – the rat, the ox, the tiger, the rabbit, the dragon, the snake, the horse, the sheep, the monkey, the rooster, the dog, and the pig.
Year of the Rabbit 2023
The year of The Rabbit is one where the sacrifices of the past are rewarded generously. All the seeds of effort we have sown shall finally bear fruit whose sweetness is determined by the purity of our heart’s intent. Gamblers and stockbrokers find an extra ounce of ‘good-luck’ this year, for the year of The Rabbit is a rewarding one for those willing to take risks. Owing to rabbit’s being also a fertility symbol, this is also a powerful year to not only start new business ventures, but also, be beneficial for those looking to have children, as well as, for artists to get inspired and move in new directions.
I can't see the share price go down from here.
ZIM is pretty cheap. You should like it. I can't see the share price go down from here.
Just watched this interview. Looks interesting for anyone looking for a small-midcap oil tanker company. *so much to buy, so little capital
