Yep...Grisham with a tough game tying wall ball vs Jansen with 2 outs 2 strikes in the 9th---which Holmes shows up
If Juan Soto didn’t run through the stop sign he could have tied the game on the Austin Wells fly out to left. Potential sacrifice fly turns into an inning ending third out.
Not happy that Carlos Esteves went to the phillies. That was one of the guys I wanted the mets to get. But if the gm think he is gonna hold on to his golden prospects in these deals he is not gonna get anything done. Actually stunned the mariners traded stanek for that little, because thomas isn't gonna be any good, but I'll take it in my opinion of course.
It was a fair deal/ bordering on a good deal for the yankees in my opinion. Chisholm is not a rental, he is a FA in 2027. So he can help you for 2 1/2 years, and because the yanks are not gonna resign torres in the offseason he is your 2b in 2025 which wasn't on the roster before this trade.
You're right about Serna
Bad news about Senga. On the replay, it's very hard to see any cause for such a significant injury.
It was like the classic non contact injuries you see in football alot.
And yes the brewers need a bat in my opinion, and a starting pitcher. but the fact that the central isn't any good is gonna help them. Because the pirates can pitch but have no offense. The cardinals are more balanced but do nothing well.
The problem with your theory and it is a big one. Is Jazz Chisholm hits way better on the road, than he does in miami. which is a real shocking development since Miami is not the friendliest of places to hit. where, Yankee stadium for a LH hitter is great place to be.
Jazz is hitting 277 away from Miami. Which is why I think he is waaaaaaaaaaaay better than Volpe for this year. Because hitting in Miami hold him down. he doesn't have to do that anymore now.
You obviously don't know anything about team chemistry but neither does Boone.
Look Volpe, who is a excellent defender and I have gone on record saying I think he will hit better in the future. But as of right now it is about putting your best team out there.
Here are the facts coming into this game in 2024
Batting Leadoff 242 ba with a 293 obp
Batting Not leadoff 286 ba with a 339 obp
I ask you this who is player you want. I personally want the guy who hit 44 points higher on BA, and 46 point higher on the OBP. That is just me. So I'll take not batting leadoff volpe, that is a much better hitter to me. And I believe building team chemistry is doing what is good for the team and getting the most out of every player, how anyone could say batting him leadoff is getting the most out of him right now in 2024. I will never understand the numbers prove me right and anyone who wants to argue against me wrong, and now that you actually for the first time have a legitimmate option to leadoff in chisholm. I definitely don't want to hit volpe leadoff.
BTW I still haven't forgotten you thinking Grisham should be the Yankees starting CFer.
Like just about everyone they take a statement, and they position it in a way a person would sound not too bright to say the least, rather than what they actually said. With stanton Out, with dominguez out, with rizzo out. Yes I did say I would put grisham in CF, not because I think grisham is any good, but because I rather rest soto and judge on occasion with a dh day. Now admittingly grisham has not played the best defense, but historically has been a great defender so that is what I was going on. If he is not out there who do you need to see at DH, may I ask, I mean DJ, Cabrera, Torres, Jahmia Jones, JD Davis. Obviously once stanton comes back, guess what I'm never playing grisham, because stanton needs to DH Everyday, but while this times was going on during the hot days of summer getting Judge off his feet like tonight on occasion is a good idea he is in his low 30's, and you need him and soto to play everyday, so giving them a rest during this time, when your options are what I just mentioned for DH, I stand by it being a good idea during this period because the options stink. The minute stanton is back I wouldn't want grisham anywhere near the lineup. Those are the facts and that is exactly what I said.
BTW the Mutts just lost to the Braves 4 to zip.
Yeah Just won 5 In a row. And mets never win when Megill is on the mound. Which is why mets need to get a starter before the deadline, which I have said a thousand times. Although to be fair today the offense did nothing. It happens the braves can actually pitch. All is just my opinion of course.
OK---after Gleyber just turned a Duran 8 foot high "fly" ball into a "double", I'll take a half-empty bag of balls for him
The only thing worse than this 1st half hour of Stroman so far is having to listen to and look at Matt Damon and Casey Affleck FFS
yeah, this is a hard trade to read in typical Brewers fashion. They were never going to compete for Scott and the high end arms...maybe they see something in this guy worth tweaking.
Worse than the pitching, the Crew's offense has frozen up. With Yelich out and Contreras flagging, it's step-up time. Not sure who this might be but it better happen quick because thier rivals in the central are starting to play hungry, especially the Bucs.
Bad news about Senga. On the replay, it's very hard to see any cause for such a significant injury.
Trust me, I didn't think we could even get Mason Miller's broken hand for Gleyber
now, can we move Gleyber for a needed piece? Um, no. What you need will not come via Torres. You can chuck in DJ too but I don't thinnk that will help, lol. You want quality, you can't offer garbage.
Yanks out of the gate lookin' like they want to get last night's taste out of their mouths---3 absolute smokers right off the bat---one off the wall and Soto and Judge leave the yard
They say "the ball will find you"....that said, after 4 runs on back-to-back jacks in the 7th to erase a 1 run deficit, you'd think your 2 highest leverage BP guys could hold it---Judge, after his 470' bomb in the 7th had the most disappointing AB in the 9th as I don't expect much from DJ at this point---Kenley Jansen throws a cutter....period...and the big guy looked at 3 of them right down Broadway...
Except for a few rough outings Luis Gil has filled the void left by trading Michael King for Juan Soto.
Without Juan Soto the Yankes would be much worse off.
DJ did not lose the game.
https://www.mlb.com/gameday/yankees-vs-red-sox/2024/07/26/746933/final/box
Runners left in scoring position, 2 outGrisham 2; Volpe.
Brillant move by Aaron Boone to insert DJ LeMahieu as a late innings defensive replacement for Ben Rice. Later when LeMahieu came up with RISP he became an offensive liability.
Michael King just stellar today. Another pitcher Cashman traded away.
More importantly Chisholm has a higher OBP and steals more bases
He has stolen 4 more bases than Volpe. His OBP is only 18 points higher. Volpe has a higher BA. And you think he should be awarded the leadoff position.
You obviously don't know anything about team chemistry but neither does Boone. Volpe bats from the right side, Soto from the left and Judge from the right. Let Chisholm bat cleanup.
BTW I still haven't forgotten you thinking Grisham should be the Yankees starting CFer.
https://www.mlb.com/player/trent-grisham-663757
He's not batting his weight.
BTW the Mutts just lost to the Braves 4 to zip.
Chisholm should hit leadoff he steals bases. Also Miami is a bad park to hit, And specifically for a LH, his numbers should improve in Yankee Stadium.
More importantly Chisholm has a higher OBP and steals more bases, which is why he should hit leadoff over volpe. volpe doesn't draw enough walks at this point to be a leadoff hitter, that doesn't mean he can't get better, but at this point chisholm is a better offensive player. I also think Chisholm can even be better in a Yankee uniform, I think he will like having crowds (I think he is the type of player who will perform better with attention, but that is just a guess), and I think he will like hitting in a much more favorable ballpark especially for LH batters. So strongly disagree chisholm to leadoff not even close in my opinion.
I realize you don't like the Yankees
Whether I like the Yankees or not is irrelvant. It is not like I'm telling you to Hit Jahmai Jones Leadoff and JD Davis cleanup. One know I criticized that. My baseball opinion is that chisholm in 2024 is a better option to leadoff than volpe, because of a higher OBP, and he steals more bases. And those are the facts based on stats, not based on how I feel about the yankees. Trust me I have seen chisholm alot, he can hit, his defense will be better if he stays at one position in my opinion the marlins have moved him several times in his career allready.
but you should focus on your BP which sucks.
This idea that I can't have an opinion about any team for some reason despite being a mets fan I think is comical. I have an opinion of every team. If we had a ton of pirates fans here, I would talk a ton of pirates baseball. we happen to have a number of Yankees fans hence why I talk alot about yankees baseball. I have opinion on every teams roster, holes, etc. I don't see why I can't have an opinion on that. And trust me how many posts Have I made lately talking about the mets, if anything I have been talking about them a lot, so yes that is where my focus is.
The bullpen needs work still, it still stinks. We need a LH OF, because DJ Stewart hasn't gotten a hit for years it seems and he has been playing too much, which to me is absurd that we keep seeing him play. And more importantly I'm worried about the starting staff because I don't like megill and right now he is the 5th starter. And there is no depth behind them. Senga is gone most likely for at least the regular season, Who knows if Scott is coming back. Butto they transitioned to the bullpen. So yes they need a good starter too now, as they lost two starters just this week. So yes my focus is on the mets that is for sure. But doesn't mean I can't look at the rest of the league as well. All is just my opinion, and I could always be wrong though.
Good News the brewers acquired a bullpen arm. Bad news is the guy has a mid 5's era. Have to be honest don't get it. seems the return is a lot for a guy who is not pitching well, albeit in colorado. The good news is he does strikeout alot of guys, so probably the brewers scouting department sees something they think they can fix, getting out of colorado might help.
The good news is the Orioles are trying hard to give the game away today. A routine popup results in a 2 run error.
When Holmes' sinker stays up, he is sunk---when it moves, he is terrific...problem is, one never knows which Holmes is gonna show up---not an elite closer trait to have....
Volpe should hit leadoff. He has a little better BA and just as swift afoot on the basepaths.
I realize you don't like the Yankees but you should focus on your BP which sucks.
Maybe Glyber going to 3rd? Your not gonna get much back for him. But maybe yankee fans and more importantly the organization is just done with him. Eventhough if you look at his numbers the last month he is really starting to hit.
Sounds like serna is also part of the return to miami. wonder who the 3rd guy is. Unless they think chisholm could play 3rd. end reuslt is 3b was the biggest need coming in, and unless torres or chisholm play 3rd that hole isn't fixed with this move. Having said that chisholm will give you guys a leadoff man, something you desparately need.
As demostrated last night the Yankees have an immediate need for high leverage bullpen arms.
With Clay Holmes there is a "Catch 22" where for his sinker to be effective he needs to get frequent work. However there are not too many save situations when you're team is going 4-6 multiple times a month.
now, can we move Gleyber for a needed piece?...Wells in the last month or so is stamping himself as the full-time catcher and no Dominguez, Jones, or Hampton involved so a plus trade...
Yankees get chisholm. Sounds Like ramirez is the one of the pieces going back to miami. Chisholm should definitely hit leadoff.
High grade calf strain for senga. out 8-10 weeks. which essentially means he is done for the regular season. Unmitgated disaster.
On a positve note the mets are returning to a 5 man rotation. I personally don't love a 6 man rotation when your starters don't go deep into games, because your playing with 1 less bullpen guy. Problem is Megill is one of those starters he has good stuff, but I have never been confused with his biggest fan. I feel he will never put it together he throws a ton of pitches even when he is on, he is good for like 5 innings. I wonder if he would be better in the bullpen, but can't even think about that now with scott and senga on the IL and allready converting Butto to the bullpen depth is allready questionable right now in the starting staff in my opinion.
Senga to the IL, more details to come. Can't say I'm happy about this. But I knew as soon as it happened a minimum of two week il stint was coming and probably more. Please be back by september 1rst. That all I hoping for at this point. Have to say that might be the fastest I have seen a player be activated from the il only to return back to the IL. Yikes.
Ya think? Players go into slumps. Screwing with Volpe's head didn't help.
Volpe should have never been taken out of the lead off for batting. The clock is ticking waiting for the Yanks to make any kind of move.
I was impressed with the Olympics opening while the Yanks were losing. But all was not lost as the Orioles lost as well.
They still have some work to do on the losing front, but if they continue this. They are actually opening up a chance that they might miss the playoffs which is insane considering they were the first team to get to 50 wins. Still don't believe the yanks will do that however, as I still fully expect them to make the playoffs, but they can't play like this forever with it not catching up to them. Good news is at least they showed a pulse on the offense front. Stanton and Dominguez are a coming. Volpe is starting to bounce back. Torres has hit over the last month, and Austin Wells looks like an answer at the catcher position. So I do think there offense will be better, because I do think they will add a bat or two as well. But that bullpen is really also becoming a problem as well and they are gonna need to add there as well in my opinion. Right now I still think they will be fine for a wc, but even I gotta to admit, the chance of collapse is rising albeit the chances of that is still miniscule in my opinion.
Another crushing late yanks flop. I thought they would come through against Kenley, but fate would have it otherwise.
The Martian in his rehab stint can't be worse than Grisham. Or vertigo, who had a couple of hits....just enough to keep him atop the line up tomorrow.
Kimbrel numbers look okay, but I get the no confidence in him. especially in a big spot. To be fair I would think yankee fans don't feel to confident with clay holmes right now either.
Wonder if the Orioles will be the last team to realise that counting on Kimbrel to close out games is a categorically bad idea.
Another guy who isn't horrible every outing, but his failure in big games is bleeding over to all games.
They said calf strain, why do I feel another trip to the il is a coming.
Iglesias saved ottostinko. he let a bunch of bad off speed pitches and got away with them. He is so done. It is so obvious at this point. He must follow houser out the door.
True-----Judge just hit a ball so hard/far at Fenway I thought he might hurt himself
I'm not confident with a 5 run lead with ottostinko pitching either.
Another guy who needs to show he can stay on the field every day for more than a few weeks. Yanks have committed to enough doctor's appointments with their current line up.
Senga looked pretty okay walking off. Hopefully he's not a brittle guy who can't stay on the field.
Wish some of those rumoured Marlins trades had happened yesterday. They're looking pretty confident in Milwaukee tonight. Why am I getting a feeling of a 2022 redux, when the Crew officially flushed the season with their trade of Hader to SD?
The Martian playin' his 1st game back tonite at Scranton----- just had a 2-run 2 out single to tie the game in the 6th--bring him up LOL
Senga was pitching well but comes out the game because of leg injury. They just got him back. Hopefully just a cramp. Yikes. Nunez was a bad enough scare today.
Mean while mets are playing homerun derby again on charlie morton with a grand slam by JD and a two run homer by vientos.
Update good bye charlie morton not making it out of the 3rd after alvarez goes deep. I continue to say this is by far the best lineup I have seen since the 2006-2008 mets.

Well, beat the drum and hold the phone - the sun came out today!
We're born again, there's new grass on the field.
A-roundin' third, and headed for home, it's a brown-eyed handsome man;
Anyone can understand the way i feel.
Chorus:
Oh, put me in, coach - i'm ready to play today;
Put me in, coach - i'm ready to play today;
Look at me, i can be centerfield.
Well, i spent some time in the mudville nine, watchin' it from the bench;
You know i took some lumps when the mighty casey struck out.
So say hey willie, tell ty cobb and joe dimaggio;
Don't say "it ain't so", you know the time is now.
Chorus
Yeah! i got it, i got it!
Got a beat-up glove, a homemade bat, and brand-new pair of shoes;
You know i think it's time to give this game a ride.
Just to hit the ball and touch 'em all - a moment in the sun;
(pop) it's gone and you can tell that one goodbye!

Field of Dreams (1989)
"The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It's been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball has marked the time.
This field, this game, is a part of our past, Ray.
It reminds us of all that once was good, and that could be again.
Oh people will come, Ray. People will most definitely come."
