We are definitely still in decent shape. Our pitching has been carrying us and we are basically .500 with an unfavorable schedule. Our corner outfield spots are glaring holes. Even worse than I think the Royals thought/hoped they would be coming into this season.
They have to give up on Melendez and not let him become another Mondesi
Have to figure by accident they should be better in the future. Good news is it is hard to bury yourself in the AL. these team all aren't great. Now if you were in the NL I'd be more concerned about a slow start because I think the NL to make the playoffs might be 5 or so more wins for the last WC compared to the AL, plus I think the AL Central second team has a chance to grab a WC, it is much less likely in the NL where the NL west and NL east are going to take all the WC, so only 1 spot in the division most likely for the central there. But there might be more than one available for the AL Central. All is just my opinion, and I could always be wrong though.
Quintana can pitch. He won't wow you with his stuff, and he will have some days that he won't have it. But my guess is you get a completive pitcher with a sub 4 era when it is all over. I watched Quintana enough to know he battles out there.
Quintana throws 7 shut out innings in his first Brewers start. Impressive!
He's been outstanding so far. On another note can we start Acuna everyday it was obvious to me at the start of the season. But the keep this crazy stuff going with Baty every year. Acuna, got on base 3 times and he can do something most on this team can't steal a base.
CNBC’s Official MLB Team Valuations 2025: Here’s how the 30 franchises stack up

Lance Lynn was soooo much better last year than Corbin.
I will say, we got Corbin very cheap. Who knows how much Lynn wanted?
Corbin took just over $1 million.
Lynn already was paid $1 million from the Cardinals as a buyout.
The Cardinals organization recognized Lynn's value, but they exercised their right to decline his $12 million contract extension for 2025. Lynn turned down any potential signing with other teams after the Cubs expressed their interest, since he preferred to walk away instead of waiting for an opening during the mid-season.
Probably save a few bucks with the post game buffet table provisions with Corbin over Lynn.
2 mops from the same bucket IMO
MLB weighs a salary cap as potential lockout looms in 2026

Key Points
MLB has never had a salary cap, but league and team officials are considering what that could look like as the league’s CBA expires in December 2026, sources say.
While the concept of introducing a salary cap has consistently been a nonstarter with the players’ union, there’s some evidence suggesting reforming MLB’s economics could be good for players.
Part of what’s causing spending discrepancies for MLB teams is local media revenue.

Good luck with that one.
Devin Williams, who has been less than impressive so far, doin' his best to blow a Max Fried gem
Rangers picked up Patrick Corbin out of desperation. I can't believe he survived 5 innings. Those Cubs are pesky hitters, lots of slap hits to keep rallies going.
I know Corbin was added as just an innings guy as our number 5, buy why not Lance Lynn instead?? He was a Rangers fan favorite a few years ago and they are basically the same guy.
Well Shubal did win the Cy Young so the Yanks lost to a very good pitcher.
No surprise the Yanks were shut down today. Skubal has that effect on teams
The real story is the pitching IMO. Carrasco ain't the answer. To call him "washed up" would be a big improvement over his current status. He's been a feel-good recovery story for years. Unfortunately his pitching didn't make the same recovery, as much as fans wanted to see that happen.
Yankee scoring today non existent. Tigers 5 ^ Yankees 0.
The Mets pitching as a whole has been phenomenal so far. it is early though and a market correction might be around the corner. than again the offense is do to have a lot more days like today because I think they will be a top 5 offense in baseball when all said and done.
Compared to a year ago, it's all roses and bliss for the Mets so far. Holmes has been quietly impressive, and given that they're paying him relief pitcher money, he could be one of the better off season acquisitions.
Lindor is over .200 in April and Diaz hasn't blown anything yet. If Vientos can work it out, you'll be pushing Philly all season in the East.
Haha. He'll be indoctrinated in the pitching camp and sent out in a week or two. Probably not enough of the season left for him the Cy though.
Yankee starters aren't great because they have 3 starter out. we know rodon is up/down not a huge fan, although should post decent number in the end. stroman at this point in his career is up/down, if he is your 5th starter you fine, right now he is your 3rd. Fried will be good. Carrasco is done, and warren I don't know how good he is. They need Gil and Schmidt back, plus they may have to make a trade at the deadline in my opinion.
Now go to work on the Yankee starters. Yankee hitting looks good so far.
Well you just got Priester that should solve the Brewers problems
The bad news is this Mets offense is drastically underachieving. the good news is they are 7-3 thanks to the pitching being surprisingly outstanding so far in my opinion.
They have gave up just 22 runs in 10 games. Can't say I saw that one coming.
Must be as he's not even using the Torpedo...
Carter is struggling in the minors. He seems gun shy, but is walking a lot
Well The mets got lucky peterson was just sick so looks like we dodged one there.
You want devestation? Have a look at the injuries to the Brewers rotation. If they can stay at .500 until the all-star break, that's a huge win.
Could be time for Grisham to pee in the cup. Something doesn't add up here.
Yup. Looking at the Rangers boxscores it's hard to believe they're sitting at 8-2. Imagine if they ever start hitting.
Wonder if Carter will be back this season?
All I kept hearing all spring was about what a great signing Joc Pederson was.....well anytime now would be swell.
I must admit, he strikes out less and takes more walks than I would have thought he would.
Crazy that we are seeing most of our runs coming from the bottom of the order.
And, how long can our bullpen look this great?
Never doubt the powers of Bruce Bochy!.....every other year
That is called......avoiding Rangers pitching
Blue Jays extend Vladdy---$1/2B/14 yrs none deferred
all it took was me raggin' his azz--you're welcome
Since going 0-19 Devers is hitting .526 - 10 for 19.
Since going 0-19 Devers is hitting .526 - 10 for 19.
Trent Grisham absolutely on fire---take your time until the playoffs Giancarlo...
I don't understand why David Peterson is in the game. he is clearly hurt, finally took him out. Most of the times Mendoza is on, but he should of taken him out several batter before it was painfully obvious that Peterson was in a lot of pain. which concerns me because this starting staff isn't deep and we are already down Montas and Manaea, losing Peterson for any length of time would be devastating to the Mets.
It won't be the first area to wither away. And certainly not the last. Maybe the lesson is that MLB shouldn't locate to places where they're the only game in town. The stadium reminds me of the big O in Montral, which was the death knell for the Expos. Prior to the '76 olympics, the Expos played in Jarry Park, an outdoor diamond with a capacity under 30K. I saw Hank Aaron hit #704 there on a wet night in 1973.
The move to a character-free, 80k "ballpark" was a disaster. In the last season of the Expos before the move to DC, we went to a game for old times sake. There were about 6,000 people in attendance. The echo from the PA and the organ resonated for 25 seconds after each use. The wrecking ball couldn't get there fast enough.
The bottom line in Tampa is that baseball doesn't work. Would a new, smaller outdoor stadium with a roof help? Probably, but it's a pretty big expenditure for an area that has nothing else to offer and is best avoided in the summer months.
Would your rookie league buddy have taken them?
I doubt it. He was from Australia abd 18 years old. He went for kicks. But he also had a great place to return to when the fun was over, with plenty of opportunities for life after baseball. I don't know if the same is true for players from Panama or Venezuela.

Well, beat the drum and hold the phone - the sun came out today!
We're born again, there's new grass on the field.
A-roundin' third, and headed for home, it's a brown-eyed handsome man;
Anyone can understand the way i feel.
Chorus:
Oh, put me in, coach - i'm ready to play today;
Put me in, coach - i'm ready to play today;
Look at me, i can be centerfield.
Well, i spent some time in the mudville nine, watchin' it from the bench;
You know i took some lumps when the mighty casey struck out.
So say hey willie, tell ty cobb and joe dimaggio;
Don't say "it ain't so", you know the time is now.
Chorus
Yeah! i got it, i got it!
Got a beat-up glove, a homemade bat, and brand-new pair of shoes;
You know i think it's time to give this game a ride.
Just to hit the ball and touch 'em all - a moment in the sun;
(pop) it's gone and you can tell that one goodbye!

Field of Dreams (1989)
"The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It's been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball has marked the time.
This field, this game, is a part of our past, Ray.
It reminds us of all that once was good, and that could be again.
Oh people will come, Ray. People will most definitely come."
