PETA has recently launched an international campaign against Benetton in order to urge the company to stop funding the extreme suffering of sheep in the Australian wool industry. Extensive international media coverage has recently been given to this issue and a quick Google News search of mulesing will bring up numerous articles from all over the world about this campaign. Consumers around the world are increasingly becoming aware of the cruelty associated with Australian wool and the unethical stance of companies who continue to use it despite knowing just how much suffering is involved. PETA has documented these abuses, which you can see for yourself at www.SaveTheSheep.com. There is a link to a video on that web site called “Australia’s Secret Shame” which I think that everyone should watch. I hope, that upon seeing for yourself the cruel practices of the Australian wool industry, that you will agree that these abuses must be stopped immediately. Many other companies, including Abercrombie & Fitch, J.Crew, New Look and George, have already taken a stance against the cruel Australian wool industry by not purchasing Australian wool. Benetton has fallen far behind the curve when it comes to ethical business practices. By continuing to use Australian Merino wool in its garments, one can only assume that Benetton condones this type of cruelty to animals. Considering Benetton already relies heavily on non-Australian wool, it is difficult for me to understand why they don’t just stop buying Australian wool.
Killing for Tantalum
The search for tantalum has become so fierce that people in the African Congo are fighting over this rare metal called tantalum. In the Congo there are reports of forced labor, illegal monopolies, and murder in the name of tantalum mining. With people being forced off their farms and the exploitation of children to mine the mineral. Tantalum is little known, but very important as it issued in microelectronics such as PalmPilots, cellular telephones, etc.
As the world demand for high-tech products took off, so too did the price for tantalum. Since the demand for tantalum has increased, more stable tantalum markets other than the Congo have become more appealing. For instance, Canadian tantalum exploration companies like First Narrows Resources (UNO) trading on the Canadian Venture Exchange (CDNX) www.firstnarrows.com/s/Home2.asp and Commerce Resources www.commerceresources.com/s/Home2.asp are exploring tantalum without the violence and bloodshed that is occurring in the Congo.
Tantalum and Australian Stocks
Can can anybody tell me more about the metal tantalum. I know austarlia is the world leaders in the production with Sons of Gwalia. i understand that Canada is stepping up with tantalum findings like www.commerceresources.com/s/Home2.asp Can anybody give me more info on the tantalum market in Aus

Advanced Communications Technologies Signs Letter of Intent for
Acquisition of 51% Interest in Teleport Satellite Communications Center
Business Editors
IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 18, 2000--
Benefits of Telecom Gateway for SpectruCell Rollout Cited
Advanced Communications Technologies Inc., (OTCBB:ADVC), today announced it has signed a letter of intent to acquire 51 percent of Digital Comm Link Inc. in a stock transaction valued at $10 million to $20 million, subject to an independent valuation.
The company has an option to purchase an additional 29 percent over a one-year period. Completion of the transaction is subject to due diligence and the execution of a definitive purchase agreement. The majority of the due diligence was completed prior to the execution of the letter of intent.
"The acquisition provides us with a unique opportunity to demonstrate the viability of the SpectruCell system, upon completion of the commercial model, in an operating network structure. It will also provide the company with an excellent venue to showcase its capabilities to potential telecommunications customers," said Roger May, chief executive officer.
He noted that the Agreement requires the company to commit up to $6.5 million in additional working capital to further expand Digital Comm Link's capabilities and satellite communications facilities. It will also provide operating capital to further develop new business opportunities, while expanding its existing base of telecommunications customers that currently includes several of the major carriers.
Advanced Communications Technologies announced last week that its Australian-based affiliate, which is 20 percent owned by the company, successfully tested and demonstrated the functionality of its SpectruCell system, a cellular wireless base station capable of processing multiple protocols simultaneously -- representing a worldwide first. The functionality was achieved without Qualcomm Chipsets, or any other dedicated hardware, and marks the successful integration of RF, DSP and Signaling Sub-Systems of the SpectruCell multiple protocol wireless base station.
The company has begun to initiate marketing programs to cultivate interest for SpectruCell among the major telecommunications companies in the United States and expects the new SpectruCell technology to be available commercially by the end of the second quarter of 2001.
What is SpectruCell?
A SpectruCell system is a cellular wireless base station capable of processing multiple protocols (GSM, CDMA, WCDMA, etc.) simultaneously, all within the same network. The SpectruCell network can process a GSM and a CDMA call simultaneously over a single network structure. The SpectruCell base station is built on a software defined radio platform, without protocol specific hardware required for handling different protocols. The same SpectruCell network can process all future applications, including the 3G protocols, simultaneously, by upgrading with the appropriate software module. It has also been designed to work with all conventional communications backbones (fiber optic, cable, satellite, microwave, etc.). This means that communications network operators will be able to use one network to process current and evolving protocols and applications, as well as provide a more cost effective utilization of their network resources. In addition, the cost of expanding and establishing new wireless networks could be reduced dramatically. Lower network establishment costs generally mean expanded service offerings by the carriers, and lower costs of calls for the consumer.
SDR (Software Defined Radio)
The SpectruCell multiple protocol wireless cellular base station is also believed to be one of the first commercial applications of its kind in the world to utilize an SDR operating platform. The SpectruCell system has also been designed with open architecture and is software upgradeable. It will also be compatible with the latest smart antennae technology.
Independent Industry Validation
ACT is presently collaborating with several parties, including the Telstra (Australia) R&D laboratories, to independently validate the functionality of the SpectruCell system. The SpectruCell design team is now focusing on the production model of SpectruCell commercial network base station.

The nominee accounts may be common and perfectly legal, but I don't believe that there is any provision in the law, which would make it legal to use them for the insiders to activelly trade their stock. The overriding principle must remain, that the inside knowledge is a burden, when it comes to trading.
By analogy, there is nothing wrong in structuring a trust for tax advantages, but those advantage must fit into the tax law, and tax EVASION doesn't and there is no hiding behind the trusts in such cases.
The INTEND is all what matters. Nothing wrong in avoiding applicability of a law, but it is illegal to evade a law which is applicable.
If you get a chance...thanks.
im not sure. if you look at the shareregistry of many stocks, its common to see nominee owners . i can ask an accountant friend if you like. im based in aus.
Any Answers...

JB,
Thanks for the links..
Looking into it. Very very interesting.

go to asx. look up bda, which is symbol for bourse data. bda owns hot copper, old symbol of hot. saint george bank owns about 35% of bda and has agreements to purchase 70% at between 2.00 and 2.20 a share. bda is at .75 aus ,about .41 usd , so ,yes, on the surface,it is starting to be close to intrinsic value. my last line was intended to tell you that i used to own hot copper shares untill they were acquired by bourse data last spring. i also now own bourse data shares, which is the present owner of hot copper. ecorp is teamed up with microsoft and charles schwab in aus . possibly they could use a good message board to compliment their services. ecourp is ecp. joint venture with msft is www.ninemsm.com.au. trying to be helpful to you . check it out
JB,
Could you point me to a profile or quote of the company that owns hot copper?
I think that is what you were saying. I am confused by your last line.
You mean hot copper can be bought for less than it's value?
FM
the formats the thing. gods in the details.rbs format allows for a clear comprehension of posts one after another, as does this site. hot coppers is more ungainly and arkward to use. when bourse took over hot copper, they instituted a get tough policy against flamers and a hardon attitude . if you scout around i think youll find that the online offerings in aus are a fraction of whats available in the us. hot copper was simply one of very few with a daytrading perspective.one of the directors of davnet posted on hot copper and recieved a lot of flack in the aussie business press. their changes coinsided with the change in corporate ownership and the davnet affair and were company induced. .75 aus means the assets can be bought for less than their inherant value for someone wanting to enter the market. i own bda and did own hot shares.
jb pmd me and said hot copper too..
what kind of problem do they have with censorship?
Is it company done or country done?
Lots of potential to do this message board thing RIGHT in other countries, IMO.
FM
Matt, I think most Auusies would go to Hotcopper, ragardless of all the censorhip and frequent technical problems there.
I got used to HC.
Thread,
Who is the largest provider of message boards in Austrailia
Ozemail or Hotcopper..
Which one do you guys like the best?

melbourne it, the aussie equavalent to network solutions, is trading around 1.96 . most techs are so beaten down they have to represent excelent entry pointsabout now . i forsee many opportunities for 25 to 100 percent gains from these levels by jan 15.
antat, you may as well tell me , personal message if you think necessary. since one who knows responded, and having read some of his other posts, i can speculate . last feburary, i remember the knowledgable tennor of meatloafs posts. i must admit, i was kind of baiting you by using his quote, although it fairly characterizes ensuing nonevents. the rb board will never be able to promote nwll as effectively as a genuine, dynamic company would naturally do for itself. you or i could do a much better pr job than nwll has done, unless theres nothing to work with. every one has fairly interpreted nwlls news releases, but its accomplishments can only be described as underwhelming. ive never seen perth and id like to, but i will get in trouble if i ask questions that have to be answered in a public forum.
Waynecarey. Should have followed your advise. Oh well. Will wait now. It's only a very small part of my portfolio. NWL is about 50%. Red everywhere. Techs, non techs, everything!!!. Haven't looked into TRE yet. Saw it trading at 0.16. At the moment it seems that my whole portfolio is made up of spec shares....LOL...LOL.
Saw that SRO is to commence their video on demand in Camberra. Should be a money spinner. After all, those politians have plenty of time to watch movies....LOL.
every market was bad today :( I guess
6 weeks downward momo..OUCH!
I hope you aren't right mate
FM
today was absolutely horrible on the asx . i look for another 6 weeks of downward momentum . have any of you caught beasleys comments about lack of support for new economy undermining the dollar ? does australia need a tech sector ? there seems scant appreciation for it in australia .
Ted, welcome here, and happy birthday. I know, a bit late (3 weeks late, in fact).
What is that AHD about?
How is the police force in Australia coping these days? Tell them to invest in NWL and it should solve all their budget shortage problems.
I watched the opening ceremony. Very well done. That 13 years old girl was fantastic.
Good night for now. Hope to see you here more often. It is going to be well POLICED friendly place, like NZ used to be, when I first came here quite a few years ago.
Now, time for a glass of something red and to bed. Later.

Tracking AHD
For thopse of you that may be interested, I have been keeping an eye on AHD over the last few weeks. They have just been kicked out of a couple of indexes and IMHO offer good buying at these discounted prices.
There are a few sellers and the prices in the asks are spread over $1.
Check them out and do some reading. (A share holding of only 50 shares gets you discounts at Rydges Hotels and Greater Union Cinemas - who needs dividends?)

InvestorWeb Update - DAVNET on Premium Forum

DAVNET ON PREMIUM FORUM TOMORROW MORNING
Tomorrow morning at the special time of 8:30am eastern summer time, Robert "Hal" Turner, chief
operating officer of "smart building" Internet telecommunications company Davnet, will be appearing on
the Premium Forum. Last week Davnet reported a $41.9 million net profit after tax for the year ended June
30, which came almost completely from an abnormal gain of $40.03 million. Davnet’s statement of cash
flow shows $35.71 million received from customers, but $64.56 million in cost of those sales, for a net
operating cash outflow of $30.8 million. Free cash flow, defined as cash flow after capital expenditure,
came in at minus $20.8 million.
Earlier this week InvestorWeb today attended a presentation by Turner, at which he said that Davnet was
all about connecting offices to a global network, so that, say, the Hong Kong arm of a global financial
institution can communicate with head office in New York, through an integrated package carried over
the Internet. Turner talks of a "multiple-building aggregation strategy". What he means is that Davnet is
not just creating office networks and providing an Internet service, it is creating a greater network
between offices across the city, across the country and across the world. Right now, he says, Davnet is
competing in a "land grab" on a global scale, to wire-up buildings and "own the customer from the access
level". Davnet announced this week that NTT Communications Corporation, a full-owned subsidiary of
Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation - the world’s largest telco - has taken an option to convert
its 49% stake in Davnet Telecommunications - Davnet’s Australian operating company - into a stake in
Davnet itself. It was a compelling presentation, but we're not convinced. We can't recommend Davnet as
a buy, but what we can do is bring Turner on to the Premium Forum, where you can grill him on Davnet's
business, prospects and financials - or anything else you wish to ask him!
We apologise in advance if this time is inconvenient for members. We are experimenting with different
times for Premium Forum guests, so please bear with us. In the meantime check out our report on Davnet

MANY WAYS TO PLAY NRMA
The recent listing of NRMA Insurance Group Limited (NRM) has led to the issue of more than 20 different
warrants over the stock, giving both investors and traders the opportunity to take advantage of the listing
whether or not they received NRMA shares as former members. So if you’re a late entrant, or you have
NRMA shares but would like more, or if you have them but are not sure whether you want them, there is
almost certainly a warrant product that will suit you. Read Stephen Calder's report on the smorgasbord of
NRMA derivative products available. And in the lead-up to the Telstra 2 instalment receipt second
payment deadline, Stephen will report on the products the investment banks will have on the market to
allow T2 holders to roll-over their second payment. Check out the NRMA report at:

Elizam, dont know anything about those shares, but Something I read once stated that you cant go broke
making a profit, so if you are still in front with them or even , then why not sell today and transfer into
newtel because today and even better tonight it will move upwards at a geat rate of speed. If you are
looking at a speculative share, I heard a whisper that TRE is going to have action. I have'nt checked yet
but is trading at 10-14 cents and will move to 30 , I hope I got the code right.
Elizam, can't help you with these ones, know nothing.
Perhaps we should establish an intelligence division here. Someone could always screen the websites for the chats and hard news on the stocks discussed here.
Also, remember that we could move to the live chat, which has a members only option, then we could plot our early entries.
But we need more manpower to make it work.
Good night for now.
Does anyone know why TLS has drifted down so much lately? Anyone know anything about VNA. It's also not doing so well lately. I'm wondering wether to sell before I get into the red.
Waynecarey. Yes, your right. That's where my stocks are right now. If you want a laugh, I first bought them for a short time flutter, to make some money within a week or two, to be able to put it into NWL...hows that for a laugh. Now I'm long.
They have about 7M to auction. That will take some time. Trading room shows zero traded today. Can that be right?
My broker told me at the time of that first good announcement, that he had been told by Sirocca that they had 5 good announcements to release. After the reaction from the first one, they must have decided to wait with the rest.
MST, CHF and NWL had a good day today.
There also seems to be some activity on MJN (diamonds).
Yup. I tried to reason with that guy.
He has taken it too far with Dahlias.
Oh well. I just wish, since he is promoting RB over here, that he would go back to RB..
Seems kind of like detracting from his own credibility that he holds in such high regard..
Ah well, takes all kinds!
FM
Matt, to my knowledge, there are some 1,500 listed stocks on ASX.
We hope that Australians will find their way to here, somehow it feels better than RB and SI.
Keep working on the new features.
BTW: I've seen you on NWLL / RB. Couldn't see much point in that attempt to reason with those jokers. Now you probably know that yourself.
If you guys think you can bring some Austrailian folks this way...
or you like the concept of this site..
I would be interested in taking Investors Hub into Austrailia, in a few months..after we TOTALLY finish this site...
I think I can go ahead and integrate AUS quotes anyways for now, when we build the quote room into the site...
How big is the AUS market? Apparently pretty big if you guys are overflowing to the US
:)
FM
will try to find out today, also about another float which looks good, more tomorow
elizam, yes I follow sirocca as well , and as well have been hurt, bought in at 22cents and still holding
including having to pay an extra 1 cent. I think its one of those which, you can put in the bottom of the
draw and forget about until a rainy day. Everything is on track , but the market does'nt realise. They
made some really good announcements, just after the correction, however there was no reaction.
Towards the end of the year it should move up, for the moment maybe still down, as they probably
have to get rid of all the ones where the one cent was'nt paid.
Any opinions on digitalmedia float at 50 cents?
The prospectus is out (90+ pages). I'm not to keen on even trying to digest it, would use sombody's else brain.
jamesbooth, I looked at IBA, nice pop.
Perhaps we should have a portfolio for the stocks mentioned / recommended on this board. I'm a bit busy now, but it should be easy and could be useful.
NWL had a strong finish, the intraday weakness was on low volume anyway.
if bottom fishing suits you, then soh at 2.51 strikes me as a excellent prospect because its low during tech rout was 2.35 and it quickly poped back to 4.00. iba, which i have owned since before ipo has definite merit. high has been about 1.35, last time it went down with nasdaq it hit low .60s ,all time low about .53 during rout, but last time it popped from .60 to 1.35. check it out .last time i looked, iba was up 14 percent today.
I looked at all stocks mentioned here and NWL seems to be the only screaming buy right now. It is what I read from the charts.
Please elaborate on your stocks of interest, the name of the game is bottom fishing, TA hardly ever works on ASX.
From what I am hearing everything is still on track with nwl. Expect it to consolidate over the next day or so, and so big buying to come in Thursday. I am hearing a lot of extreamely positive things on nwl, apart from todays market manipulation. I think most of you would be more than interested to know that CS First Boston was the third biggest buyer today with 145,000 shares. However, they are partly to blame for the declining share price. Large sell orders on the screen, causing panic amounst some investors/traders. Most notable is their U/sell order at $1.90. Purely an attempt to drive the price lower in order to pick up shares at lower levels.
Noggie
Do your own DD.
Waynecarey. Thank you. My portfolio numbers will look beter as soon as I change the code...not much though. Bought at around 0.18c first but have managed to average down some. Not too much unfortunatly. All my spare cash has been going into NWL. Sorry, I hit the wrong button first and sent you a private message by accident. Finger trouble..LOL.
Do you follow SRO. What's the latest?
Waynecarey. Thank you. Phew...my portfolio numbers where looking sick. SROCA was showing 0 value....got worried. LOL
have a look at www.marketdigestonline.com.
Has anybody been to raging bull lately, what a joke!!!
Anyway buying is apparently coming in this afternoon and should see close at about the same as yesterday.
Just a whisper
Hi guys, nice to see new old faces here.
Not much joy on asx today, techs apparently don't like the look of nasdaq.
We already have quite a few stock picks here. Keep them coming, some reasoning behind the picks would help too.
Feel free to chat here, we can always do some house cleaning every few days, retaining only the most informative posts, for future easy reference.
Have to run now, see you later.
vklepa
Elizam, SROCB is the new code ,you are correct, for the recently paid 1cent.
antat, great idea. What's happening ,how was yesterday's close with Findlays dumping 300,000 in the last five minutes
to push the price down, All they could say was that it was sell orders from clients, maybe because the other telco's
closed down as well
Does anyone know what has happened to the code SROCA. It's for the partly paid SRO shares. There has recently been a further 1c payment. Has it now become SROCB? I'm really confused here. Thanks in advance.
Hello Antat. This board is a great idea. I'm also interested in SRO, CHF and MUL. Miss your old name though.
