You have to feel for those people in India right now- hundreds of millions of people without power after the major portions of their power grid goes down. The news said that those affected are more than the population of the US, Canada, & Mexico combined! On the flip side is the potential for ABB to sell its services to the India government. Will never sell my ABB.
I WOULD like to know when abb will buy braintech ???
The article was in the Financial Times.
Where did that rumor come from ?????????????
That would be sweet. this is my biggest investment.
Rockwell would be huge. that company is sweet.
ABB’s acquisitive mood leads to big gains

ABB was the biggest riser among European stocks on Thursday as the Swiss-Swedish engineering group confirmed that it was considering acquisitions as it announced fourth-quarter profits that were double last year’s.
The world’s biggest builder of power grids gave a positive outlook for 2010 and said it was looking to make acquisitions, but refused to offer any details.
Its shares added 7.6 per cent to SFr21.28. ABB topped the FTSE Eurofirst 300 which closed 0.7 per cent higher at 1,021.66.
The company, which is a leader in power transmission and energy efficiency solutions, is renowned for its strong cash position with firepower of more than $10bn to make an acquisition.
Analysts said ABB is relatively weak in the low voltage power application market, thus a potential acquisition would most likely be in this area.
There were rumours that Rockwell Automation in the US, which has a market value of $7.6bn, is a potential target. The acquisition of Rockwell would consolidate ABB’s automation expertise while allowing the company to diversify into software where the US company has a stronghold.
ABB profit more than doubles
(2:05 AM ET) PARIS (MarketWatch) -- Engineering group ABBsaid its fourth-quarter profit more than doubled to $540 million, while revenue fell 4% to $8.76 billion. ABB cited lower inventories, efforts to improve customer collections for the profit jump as well as year-earlier provisions for the profit jump. Analysts polled by Capital IQ had forecast a $519 million profit on revenue of $8.6 billion. ABB is upping its dividend by 6% to 0.51 Swiss francs a share. Its cost saving program now aims to sustainably reduce ABB's costs - comprising both cost of sales as well as general and administrative expenses - from 2008 levels by a total of $3 billion by the end of 2010, compared with the previously announced level of $2 billion. Provisions over suspect payments and antitrust allegations may not be enough to cover "adverse outcomes," it added.
Pernod Ricard 1st-half net off 2%, sales down 10%
ABB - impacted by market but there still is no doubt that in a recovery count on this one being in the mix
Our system posted a BUY CONFIRMED today. The previous SELL recommendation was issued on 02.11.2009 (2) days ago, when the stock price was 13.5000. Since then ABB has gained 0.30% .
BUY-IF is confirmed by a white candlestick with a higher open. The buying price is today's open ( 13.500 ) according to the Rules of Confirmation.
The recent bullish formation leading to the BUY-IF signal is confirmed today. The market seems ready for a new bullish move. It opened today with a gap-up and the day’s activity resulted in a close higher than the open. This is one of our valid confirmation criteria.
The slight failure of the previous SELL signal is currently confirmed, too. We closely monitor the performance of the signals, but a few shots missing the target slightly are inevitable when you deal with the stock market. However, such signal failures are more unlikely for higher rated stocks.
We hope that you bought this stock . Today you were supposed to watch the upward gap in the opening, wait a bit, feel the bullish tendency of the market making sure that prices stay over the opening price and then go long. Your benchmark was the opening price of the upward gap.
If you bought, continue to hold this stock until the confirmation of the next SELL-IF signal. You are on relatively safe grounds as long as the future prices continue to trade above the benchmark price and if an emergency warning is not issued. What to do if you did not buy? Maybe, you did not have time to follow the session or you simply delegated the delicate job of confirmation to us. Well it is a bit late, but not too late. You may still find suitable prices for buying in the following sessions.
The market is currently cold for short-sellers. Avoid any short sales and cover the short positions immediately if there are any. We erred on the short side last time, but we hope that this is just an exception.
