i guess all those reports of lewis' imminent demise were a bit premature...

sounds like they had a "watershed" breakthrough...seems they can now make their fiber easier, much cheaper and with a lot better results than before...



It may seem so in that article, but the same article refers to a Nature article which TRUTH posted previously (post #89990).

In that Nature article, though it does not give any numbers for Lewis’ fibers, it does state this:

But no one has figured out how to produce spools of silk as tough as the original. “Our best fibres have about half to two-thirds the tensile strength of spider silk,” says Lewis.



KBLB’s strongest fiber (according to KBLB’s PNAS article) compared to the value of the Nephila clavipes spider silk given in the Nature article shows that that strain of Monster Silk is about 70% of the toughness of the pure spider silk. Kim has stated since that that value has been further improved upon, so Lewis’ current silk does not yet measure up to the strength of Monster Silk.
