The award from the Office of Naval Research Navy Composites Manufacturing Center comes from a re-competition of a current contract and will used to fund the Composites Manufacturing Technology Center in Anderson, S.C.
The CMTC is comprised of ATI and corporate partners from the composites industry.
The five-year contract includes an initial two-year base period award of $40 million, two one-year options for $20 million per year and a final option year at $19 million.
The work effort will be performed by ATI at its Anderson Innovation Center.
The CMTC, established in 2000 and is one of nine centers of excellence that serve as technology resources to the Navy under the Navy Manufacturing Technology Program. The centers are focal points for the development of manufacturing processes and equipment in a collaborative environment between industry, academia and the Navy's industrial facilities and laboratories.
The CMTC develops improved manufacturing processes for composites and advanced materials and facilitates technology transfer to resolve manufacturing and repair issues identified and prioritized by the Navy and other Department of Defense services and industry.
Developed technologies have application to Defense Department aircraft, surface ships, submarines, land vehicles and associated weapons and missiles.
