Thanks, Meatloaf. I get the picture.
It's not a big deal (the inconsistency) and I appreciate the effort that will go into making the change.
Good luck with all that's involved in creating iHub's brave new world..
Making the name consistent will require changes in multiple places more or less simultaneously which is tricky with so many moving parts. I'll do it on a weekend sometime when the disruption won't be as big of a nuisance.
Ah, sweet mysteries of life.
At least my preferred viewing style is named the same across the site.
As the great sage Jimi Hendrix put it...
Fall mountains. Just don't fall on me. < g >
Ha - I'm not really sure why the different terminology was used - it confused me too when I was first looking at it. I could be wrong but for some reason I think once something on that specific page (and maybe others) are done a certain way, it's not really easy to edit that. But I could be wrong!
When they move you - move back.
I see classic automatically on every board I'm on
Howdy, Shelly. In preparation for the upcoming force feeding of the new view, I checked out My Settings. The line explaining Board View Type says
I show that you are in classic mode. Did something change in the last few minutes? You can go to this link:
https://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/my_settings.aspx
Scroll to the very last one and it should say Classic.
I can not find it. I am 83 and have not a clue. All I want is the old way to come up. Put it where I can find it. What you sent is Greek to me. Please use KISS method.
Hmmm, I thought that post had a pic in it...this one does:
https://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/read_msg.aspx?message_id=172675559
All that talk but no mention of HOW I FIND CLASSIC MODE.
Seems to me that it was always the case. Unfortunately, I can't check now, since the "Customize" button must not be a feature for "free" users. I'll try using the new format again, more carefully, after a reboot.
Dino
@wadegarret If you're in Full View reading a Board's list of messages, there's two paths to send a private message.
You can click the "..." over in the top right of any message which gives you the option to send a PM; or you can click the user's alias in blue, then click "Send Private Message" on their profile.
Hmmm... the new/"Full View" puts even more emphasis on getting you to the latest post(s), I'd say. If you click the Board name (from anywhere - favorites or elsewhere), you're always showing the latest messages -- then it live updates when new messages come in.
In what case are you getting scrolled to the bottom of a thread?
Shelly- I have been on Ihub for 20 years
What I don't like about the new format, is that I don't have the option of clicking a persons screen name, and sending him a private message, the way I did before this new format. In other words, when someone posts something, you could always click his name, and it would send you to information about that poster, ie the last 50 posts they had, and the ability to private message him, and other things. How do I do that now, if I am not responding to a post he sent me ? I mean, it allows me to private message back to a person that writes a post to me, but not if I simply want to send him a private message directly.
Hate is probably too strong a word. Let's just say I greatly dislike the new format. The default format should be the classic, since most of the time people want to read the newest post, not have to scroll all the way from the bottom of the thread to get to the most recent one.
Dino
Old view for sure !!
Thanks, Duma. This was my collection of feedback. We'll add something to help with that. https://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/read_msg.aspx?message_id=172697480
Are you having trouble today? I see you're in Classic now. Let me know if that doesn't stick for you.
I am always on the Safari, either iPhone or iPad. Editing a post is a nightmare, if I am lucky enough to successfully submit a post and have it go through without a double posting. With Shelly’s rules on Shelly’s site, it’s impossible to have a discussion with 3 posts a day. I now have one left.
IHub was pretty damn good. I’ll never understand why someone thought it needed to be tampered with.
It’s very difficult and honestly not a fun experience anymore. Y’all have found a new way of getting rid of users
I sorta like the new format, but if I can't tell which posts I have read, that is a deal killer for me.
How do I make it stay on classic view? I have to change it each time I log in
I feel bad that so much time was spent on creating this subpar experience. How do you track what was read and not read?
Sounds like you got NewBauwered?
I did too.
Yet.
Until they find a way to make more clicks and more views off the "new view"
@uber darthium Thanks for the report. I'm trying to reproduce this, but unable to so far -- can you tell me a few more details in your scenario that you're experiencing this?
I left windows open on desktop, iphone, and iPad using the 'quick post' on Board and the Full Editor for 5 minutes. At no point did it refresh and wipe out my text.
When you're having this problem, could you let me know which 'post box' you're using? The one on a Board or the Full Editor?
You say you're having this same problem on Edit Message, as well? Today?
Always on iPhone/iPad using the web/Safari - not the app?
Is the posting box window all you have open? Or are there other iHub tabs like Quote or other boards open?
Whatever y’all have done has destroyed the iHub experience. Using iPad and iPhone, the screen just refreshes itself whenever it pleases, while deleting the post I was creating. Gone…poof..
If I am lucky enough to complete a post, when I hit submit, it starts, then freezes up. Next thing pops up, red banner “SOMETHING GONE WRONG”. Forget the horrible grammar, the only way to know is open another iHub tab, login, and check to see if it’s really posted.
Forget any thought of editing, it’s worse and more than likely going to reset reload before you can update, which does the same stupid red banner “SOMETHING GONE WRONG”
I cannot fathom why someone decided to take a fairly stable, very popular and well liked platform and seriously impair the user experience, unless of course I am the only one and it’s for a reason. If so, just kindly PM me and I’ll vanish.
It’s been said repeatedly that there is no intention to phase out Classic.
Visually it's too wide open. Needs background shading and visible borders.
Well it would be nice if it wouldn't keep logging me out.
And the option should be there to use Classic even if not logged in.
I cannot log into iHub on company hardware on company time. So I am forced to use "new format", which suggests to me that Classic will be phased out.
It's Sunday...don't expect any reply today, hopefully tomorrow. It looked as if you were trying to help after I described my problem. At one point you asked what browser I'm using. I replied "Chrome" but haven't heard back.. To refresh your memory >>
No matter which stock-specific board I open, the same problem exists. To the right of the board posts, the Quote Table and Chart info has vanished and been replaced with Posts Today, Posts (Total), Posters, Moderators. Also, the features of which were always at the top, above the board posts: Quote, Trades, Historical, etc. -- also gone. At the moment, I have no access to any trade data of any type -- no daily quote data, no trades data (time and sales), no historical data, etc. >>
If you're able, please help. If not able, could you advise who might be able.
Dark mode would be good imo..
Cool 😎 Yes, I'm a career developer. I've worked on many apps and websites in various industries. I was programming before the internet. On web I've done classic ASP and ASP.Net full stack. I'm not a fan of programming against the entity framework with the MVC pattern, so these days I focus on SQL development, data integrity, and Azure data factory. 🤓
✋ I definitely vote for full dark mode.
Feedback summary (so far)
1. Not staying in preferred view - this should now be resolved.
2. Design: It's busy and harder to read. Especially more difficult on iPhone/iPad.
3. Design: Difficult to know what messages you read/haven't read. Classic relies on browser link color for this. Not present in Full View.
3. Advanced Search (unrelated to full view) but request is to make it not year-by-year.
4. When you're several pages back on pagination (using older/newer buttons), when you're moving forward, it should move you to bottom of list so you can resume reading in correct place based on time.
On point 2 for mobile phone/tablets less posts being visible -- an important point here is what you're seeing on Full View is full posts/messages, not subject lines. In Classic, you can more subject lines, but not posts. In Classic, it requires many more clicks and page loads to read the same amount of information. This one of the reasons I actually strongly prefer Full View on desktop/mobile. I can skip through many more posts much faster just by scrolling, never waiting on the page to reload on each click. This is obviously a preference, which is why Classic is staying around.
Thanks, DD. I'll see what we can do about this. This dates back to iHub stone age and hasn't been touched much since then. 🦖
Do you think it'd help if the messages were blue on Full View, too? Or even full dark mode (my preferred choice). The white can be a bit tough on the eyes, I agree.
Thanks for the feedback. I think we've got a solution for this and we'll get something implemented.
Thank you - noted and we'll resolve this. I agree.
Thanks for the detailed feedback, MrMike.
I appreciate you've taken the time to consider what we've designed here. A lot of thought as definitely gone into it.
I like your naming of 'List View' vs 'Thread View' 💯
What you proposed for 'single message' is something we intend to do in an upcoming version. It's needed for when you single out a message, so you have full context. The current single message has always been challenging on context.
Something tells me you've designed websites/apps before? 🤓
Staying in Classic View
This was the most common issue raised. We were quite confused by this because none of us were having this problem in testing or in live and we were having no luck reproducing it - but clearly it was happening!
@IH Geek [Meatloaf] believes he has solved this now. If you click to Switch to Classic in the blue section above any board or make the change in your Site Options, it should stick/save now across sessions & logins.
If you're still having a problem after today, please let us know.
I'll start going through the rest of the feedback and pick out anything we need to improve on for Full View. Again, we have no plans to remove Classic View - we know this preferred view to many of you and we're happy for use to continue to use iHub in whatever view you prefer.
Which browser are you using?
I'm on a PC (desktop)
