For the last few days, I've been having trouble with adding pictures/charts to iboxes. I have to hit save and go back several times before it shows up.

When I go back, I can see the item that I've saved but when I go to the main screen, it's gone. After 3-4 times, it will show up. I've also been getting "oops!" errors that say it's been reported to ihub for review.

Question... When doing a public search, words that appear in members siggys are also included in the search, a real pain in the butt.. I know this was addressed in (IHUB 1.0?) and fixed..

Actually it is the Lurkers Den, not the RockStar.

I can edit the RockStar one fine and others, just the Lurkers Den is giving me the issue.

Guessing that would be the Rock Star board. When I look at it I see the graphics at the top and the plugin icon at the bottom. What browser are you using?

Apostrophes seem to mess up the text display in the message list: e.g. #msg-31368590.

I previously mentioned a similar bug where an apostrophe displayed as a double quote.

Fotothing seems to be down today causing images to not show in a lot of places. Hopefully they will get it fixed soon.

Hello Meatloaf, question for you.

Got an ibox i would like to update and when i click edit, it shows me most of the stuff for like 1-2 seconds.

Then it turns into a plugin icon. How can I open this up? I believe i had a song on the first line of the ibox, fyi, in case that makes a difference.

Dont seem to have an editing issue on other iboxes, that's why I am curious. If i can't figure it out, that ibox will be a time capsule i guess.

Pumpkin, have we been able to figure out wassup with the Top/Bottom HIDE IBOX issue?

hitting top seems to work for folks; bottom doesn't..permanently. SEveral reports of it on Q&A. Got a few others via pM.

I hope I can explain this.

There is a board that has 50 posts on it and I also have a message in my mailbox which happens to be one of the 50 posts.

With the old IHUB after I clicked on the message in my mailbox and read it, the number of unread posts on the board would go down to whatever posts were left after the one I read.

You with me so far?

In order to get around that, after I read the post to me, I would hit the back button to get back to the board list and it would show that there were still 50 unread posts on that board. I would click on the "50" and then read the posts.

That doesn't work anymore! Now when I hit the back page I will see the list and the board will show 50 posts but when I click on it, it takes me to the board either above or below it in my list.

Can we get it back to the way it was?

Favorites option under Tools/Settings:

As it is, the choices are All, Boards, People. That seems confusing to me. "All" would imply Links as well. I think it would be better if it said Boards, People, Both. That is crystal clear IMO.

Dave,

I think that happens on fast moving boards because when you click next 20 three or four posts might be included that were not there when you read the first 20.

Then you go back to your Favorites page and click new messages, and there they are again.

My work around for this problem has been to click "Last Read" when I get to the last post and I don't get them again.

I hope that makes sense.

Edit: Let me see if I can make my point clearer.

I look at my favorites list and there are 30 new posts to read on a board.

I click on the 30, and of course I get one. Then I click on next 20. There should be 29 posts left.

I read the first 20, and then I click next 20.

In the meantime, there have been three or more posts posted.

So instead of downloading nine, I download all of the next 20 at that time.

But the message counter doesn't know that I have read the new ones unless I hit the "last read" button.

There's still slippage if you read 20 posts at a time. The first four or five on every "new" page are the last four or five from the previous page.

Re: Quality of uploaded image files

I have the answer to the question in #msg-30835313: fotothing.com supports only JPG and GIF files because it does its own image rendering of these formats (i.e. it uses its own decoders for these file types). Conversely, fotothing.com does not support PNG files because it does not have its own PNG decoder.

I finally figured this out when I kept noticing that JPG images looked much better when I displayed them locally (where my own OS and browser do the decoding for image files) than they did when displayed within an iHub post.

At first I assumed that fotothing.com was truncating JPG files by adding more data compression to the images, but this is not the case: the file size is unchanged. Rather, what fotothing.com is evidently doing is ignoring instructions within the JPG file header on how to process the color gamut. Thus, instead of displaying the images with the specific color settings I created using an image-editing tool, fotothing.com is displaying the images with default color settings. In some cases, this makes a big difference, while in other cases it hardly matters.

If you display only “off the shelf” images that have not been edited using a program such as Photoshop or Apple’s ColorSync, iHub’s image displays using photothing.com will work fine. However, if you have edited the color settings in your images, you will get better results by uploading the image files to your own webserver, thereby bypassing fotothing.com and allowing each viewer’s browser to render the image decoding.

Tabbing is currently determined only by the browser’s own preferences; however, I think I read on this board that the FCK editor will be upgraded to support explicit tabbing actions for iBox links.

It is for links that are entered via the link tool, and the default is _blank (new tab). It won't change what was already there unless the moderator edits the link's properties to add a target window.

Generally speaking, links to iHub pages should be set by the moderator to go to the same window, and links off-site should be to a new window.

Individual browser settings can override those selections.
