I have an etrade account. I tried to transfer Ira to Roth online and couldn't so I called them and they did the transfer while on the phone with no problem.

Not sure if you can or not...... But it seems odd if you were able to take escrow from Trad IRA to a Roth.

I say that because how would someone owe any taxes on a zero value position (escrow) once it moves from a Trad to a Roth?

This is the reason the IRS has such a thing as a "conversion"........ They want their tax money......

since there is no way to assign a value to be converted AND TAXED you can not do it

those who have done it - I assume used the current zero value

I have no idea what is right or wrong - none - but keep pushin Fidelity - and say ok it has a value of zero - so lets move it
