x,

excellent analogy--assuming it's right.

I agree with you X, I think since they got the decent funding with LPC the progress notes have been very focused and should result in what we are all waiting for sometime this summer in the weeks/months that they apply variations of the materials and characterize the results, device by device

So far they have proven the concept of a working (plug-n-play)proto albeit with limited specs, but those specs were terrific, and they have designed their own device now for manufacture

Device Achieves Greater Electro-Optical Activity and Lower Drive Voltage than Industry Standard Legacy Inorganic Modulators

If they fail to achieve a working proto from hundreds of attempts subsequent to receiving the IMEC devices it would be quite a disappointment to the faithful here, now there may be some in-between zone, where the characterized devices may not be holy grail worthy, but still much better than anything out there, imo, that would still validate the tech and spark quite a rally

X, if you care to speculate,

1) With respect to the waveguide/carb analogy, does the material need to be "tweaked" for different waveguides or maybe the better question is does a waveguid neee to be tuned to perk specific "fuel to air" ratio?

2) With respect to $500 device comment, has anyone speculated on what the actual cost to manufacture said device is and what parties are required to do so?
