Regarding full-volume encryption

How does the Seagate solution and the Vista solution differ? They both utilize the TPM, no? Is this one of the areas in which the OS will subsume Wave's offering?

Thanks Barge...hey,, did SS use the term "deFACTO" at any point in the conversation?

Gotta LOVE this::::

Barge

Thanks for the reserved update! Seagate does sound great! As far as Dell, it seems that they fouind a way to, well you said it so nicely:

2. Embassy software is integrated into the Dell Enterprise PCs. And by integration I mean this: In order for the user to activate the Dell Smart Card or biometric the TPM must be activated! That is to say, the TPM with EMBASSY software is a necessary prerequisite to activate the Dell Smart Card and the Biometric.

Barge

your comments about Seagate

I think the importance here is with enterprises. The encryption of hard drives is a clear winner for enterprises especially with laptops. They will want to make use of this feature and they will need a way to administer it. That is a real strong positive for the Embassy server. To the extent that Seagate's drive depends on anything Wave to work with the TPM (forget about the backup), then that's a strong pull for ETS (at least lite). That could lead to further bundling with OEMs or Seagate itself. I wonder whether HP Protect Tools as presently constituted can work with the Seagate drives.

As for SKS thoughts on the share price, he created the conditions so he better get focused on the revenues and not the promise.

Barge, thanks for the report. Dell and Seagate should be excellent drivers of revenue, when they actually start driving some.

While I'm glad sks is frustrated at the stock price, I'm surprised he thinks it will magically go up on promise after all the unfulfilled promises that have not delivered revenue.

I'd like them get so frustrated that they go out and close some enterprise deals, that bring in money today. That would for sure move up the price.

#109976 RE: barge #109948

barge, nice post, but a correction, imo.

The user will need to connect to an Embassy Trusted Server in order to have Key Recovery and Backup.

I think the user can do a key backup and recovery at the client machine without being connected to EAS. The trusted server is necessary when there are a large number of PCs and the IT department doesn't want to physically go to each machine. Think big departments or remote salespeople or offices. If travelling is costly, timeconsuming or inconvenient in any way, yes. Otherwise, for small companies or individuals I believe this is not necessary. At least this is the way I have understood it.

Call me crazy or a genius, but after reading Barge's post, I'm in for another 10 thousand shares. Looking forward to this summer. Got involved with Wave back in 1997, the IBM days, I'm still here. Swore I would never invest anymore money into this stock, but the potential is just to tempting.

Barge- I got quite a kick out of reading your RSA report. Thanks for letting us in on your discussions with SKS and L.Allen.

I am amazed that we did not know about the dependence of the biometric and card reader on the TPM. It seems that between Dell and Wave that is one great big marketing plumb for Wave. Dell acted as a true partner and allowed Wave to benefit when they probably could have required the Wave software to succeed (get activated)on its own. Now, it is reasonable to figure that nearly 100% of the enterprise PCs will be activated. As well, we can presume that the Gateway deal will be essentially the same. The sales dollars on delivery will be the same but the pull to add TPM applications and to build enterprise IT networks and add server software will be enhanced. I can not stress enough that SKS demonstrated his marketing brillance here.

Having all those PCs with activated TPMs out there will make it easier to justify the Seagate FDE drives since that is what the drives require for full volume encription (as you pointed out so grandly). It all fits and is mutually supportive. The Seagate deal is a peach (4 times bigger than a plumb)of a deal by SKS. I suppose some of the techies knew about the dependence on the TPM for Seagate but it slipped by me.

Tell us about the "FLASHPOINT" that is now months old. What was it? Did we miss it or was it that somebody declared it but nobody listened?

I was curious why you doubt Intel's knowledge of the TPM. The "Fritz" chip by Intel was renamed the TPM chip was it not. I would imagine that Intel knows as much about the chip as Wave does. Maybe not about our proprietary software. BTW, Wave was on Anza Blvd in Cupertino back in 2001 when I stopped in and the burn was bigger.

Anyway, that was a great uplifting report you made. Thanks again.

Okay (and thanks)...

The company I work for shares an office building with Blockbuster, a fitness centre (with an all glass front window and dozens of women with absolutely NO need to be there -- but I'm not complaining) and a couple of other companies.

We have no business relationships with any of them.

I'd go with the "Just coincidental. A pure coincidence" if I were you...
