Buying at MTGox is like buying coins at at an online game. They cost you money but are worthless. You can't get them out, you can only play with them. $150 is way to much just for that kind of usage. But $600 for real bitcoin is very cheap!

No probably about it. You can sign up for MtGox right now and buy in for now around $120 per.

Trades are limited to other MtGox customers and no withdrawals are allowed.

Why would a newb touch it? Arbitrage is the answer. It's not possible at the moment. That's the reason for the spread.

If Bitcoin is legitimate, you'll be able to play that spread at some point in the future.

If, on the other hand, MtGox Bitcoins are different than say Bitstamp Bitcoins then Bitcoin is proven not legitimate.
