Fat:

I will address just one part. Again, Linda's language about submission is leading to some confusion. All submissions are by the clinical investigators and/or company scientists. Now, in the background the company might pressure or encourage the scientists to submit, but it is the scientist (lead investigators) who submit.

It is also possible where there might be a situation where the company would prefer to wait for strategic purposes, but the scientists want to go public. There can be some conflict of interests, especially with academic scientist. Northwest and MD Anderson are sponsors of the research and will be listed as affiliated with the researchers on the abstract. Further, there are contracts and agreements that an institution must approve the submission of research, but this is largely rubber stamping to assure that a scientist does not do anything unethical or that would tarnish the reputation of the University.

It is not the case that MD and NW submitted the abstract and will then decide who to represent them. It just does not work that way in at scientific conferences or publications. The cooperating scientists who are actually doing the clinical trials have immense power in these decision. A company cannot PO the academic community or their ability to do research goes to 0.0.
