That would be incorrect. VP9 is a proprietary lower quality codec from google company. It's a market share grab at media content. The VP9 is known already that it is inferior to h265 and barely equal to 264.
The K1 would need to downgrade to run VP9. There are no plans I've seen from Nvidia that they're even looking at VP9 as a viable add on for the chip.
Even D.F. knows VP9 has no legs. He's only pumping it because the T4 will already process 264 natively thus VP9 and not 265. And 24fps is low quality across the spectrum.
I'm not even allowed to edit anything less than 30fps. The lowest quality we can shoot in is 1080HD 60fps.
