David has stated that this codec will auto download to the NP-1 when available. His last communication on the subject puts the completion date of this codec at about two weeks from now.
So I do not see any misrepresentation on the part of NTEK in relation to the NP-1 capabilities.
Now will the next generation NP-x use a more advanced chip set-say the K1-of course it will. That is the nature of technology. It is constantly moving forward.
But interestingly enough- the new K1 will also require a codec upgrade to run V9. It is not native to the chip set.
I believe at this point in time... the NP-1 is also already capable of handling V9.
When we discuss these items we have to remember it is all code related. The reason some are native to certain chip sets is to save battery life on handheld devices, it is by no means an indication that a chip set can not process that particular codec--just because it does not come pre-installed.
