dbl, a thousand pardons
but I had an Anglophile moment and failed to delete Petula Clark and note Dusty Springfield as a person who made a career enhancing record @ American Recorders. (Dusty In Memphis)

Ironically, she was so intimidated by the surroundings and musicians @ American that only the tracks were cut in Memphis and her vocals added in NY. So, Dusty In Memphis is a bit of a misnomer, really. (A tidbit, from the book)

Elvis, upon entering via the parking lot back door pronounced "Man this is a funky, funky studio!" He had grown accustomed to RCA's lavish recording venues in NY, Hollywood & Nashville so the physical surroundings were a surprise to the king, who went on to rebuild his career with the tracks that he cut there, among them were In The Ghetto & Suspicious Minds.

For me, the best parts of the book were insights into Gene Chrisman, Reggie Young & Tommy Cogbill who played fabulous riffs on the classic recordings made there.
