The musicians who were affiliated with it also worked interchangeably in the Alabama studios, but because of their unique cohesion, they created a more pop sound than the strictly soul feeling of those others.

Petula Clark, Elvis, Bobby Womack, Neil Diamond, Joe Tex and a host of others made records that helped to kick off or re-ignite their careers there. Lacking is input from a seminal creator in Memphis, bassist and producer Tom Cogbill who passed away in 1982.

It tends to drone along with "according to" type interviews, but overall it sheds much light on American Recorders and the Memphis/Alabama recording scene in their glorious heydays.

The only "gotta reads" I can suggest these days probably would astound and confuse many. Try this one! It's "weighty" and truly fantastic! I suggest you confine the reading to the sections on the life of Jesus section, before taking on the full "tome."
