Maybe the 3GHz is single core? I mean that would make sense, although I admit I don't give this much chance.

Re: I think Intel is trying to FUD OEM's into not selling Opterons, but to wait for Woodcrests. It might work too.

Uh-oh. The conspiracy theories are already starting. Why not go the extra mile and predict that Conroe will have lower IPC than Prescott, in order to help it to the higher frequencies?

Regarding "leaked" woodcrest pricing...
The pricing looks pretty real, as it mirrors the current Irwindale pricing structure. I was a bit surprised to see six bins, but then noticed they also sell six of the current Xeon DP irwindales, so I suppose it is possible.
DP products have never had much of a price premium over desktop. Actually, back in the P3 day they were the exact same part at the same price. It was only the MP cascades that was very expensive. With the early P4 products Intel started charging about a 10% premium for Xeon DP over desktop, and over time that premium has gone up to where it is now at almost 40%.

Of course it will work. The high end price is significantly below AMDs. And the performance promises to be even higher. OEMs are just *waiting* for this from Intel. AMD has been a nice "interlude".
