But the cited wafer costs were comparing process nodes of similar density (Intel 32nm vs TSMC 28nm and Intel 22nm vs TSMC 20nm). So you're paying 35% more per transistor.

Actually, if you look at Stacy Smith's slide deck at the last analyst meeting you'll see that TSMC 28nm density is comparable to Intel 22nm.
