Although I haven`t yet had the time to read the whole patent, the reference Jack Purcher has done is wrong and misleading:
"Sapphire display cover structures may be grown as single crystals by pulling a boule of sapphire from a melt. This type of arrangement is shown in FIG. 4. Crucible 72 may be filled with alumina powder, which is raised to a sufficient temperature to form a molten liquid (melt 62)."
Jack Purcher assumes that the "molten liquid" is Liquidmetal aka "Bulk Metallic Glass" or "Amorphous Metal", but I think this is not correct. The alumina powder which is filled into the Crucible is aluminium oxide (Al2O3) and not an amorphous alloy. Just because the powder gets a molten liquid does not mean that it is Liquidmetal.

Of course I to deny that Liquidmetal could be theoretically used as a sub-structure for the whole flexible and rigid structure of the system. There are some other linkings within other patents (relating to flexible display devices) which may support this assumption, for there are often desired functionalities like flexibility, but also rigidity and processes like "metal injection molding" mentioned. But so far I haven`t yet found the ultimate proof!
