I Agree, mining bitcoin isn't that simple. However buying and using bitcoin is already relatively simple and getting easier everyday.
I don't know how banks run their back end software either, but I know how to transfer money and that's enough for me. As for Crypto Currencies, I have more faith in cryptology then in the people running banks, even if I don't understand too much of cryptology ;-)
