#41184 RE: Surfint #41176

Surfint:

I have a few problems with your defining cornerstone as a "beachhead".

1) A cornerstone is the first stone laid in the construction of a building and from it, all further construction (growth) is engineered (angles, elevation, etc.)

2) A beachhead is not analogous at all to a cornerstone. While the Corps of Engineers (Army) would certainly employ a cornerstone, it would usually be the marines who would set up a beachhead. The navy might use a cornerstone for an anchor.

3) Steipp is ex-Air Force. It is highly unlikely that he would use the term beachhead.

However, since you have chosen the term beachhead, let us be clear that this is no Normandy that has been established. It is more like a Dunkirk. We will see how successful is the evacuation of Barney Visser. I tend to think that he, being an Army man, will hold his ground quite well.

Finally, recall that Barney helped Steipp to keep the company afloat and provided a means for Steipp and selected cronies to get golden parachutes.

But, never, never forget that Steipp rigged parachutes as a soldier in Vietnam. I would caution Steipp to vet that parachute that he thinks will perform to his satisfaction. Certainly, to vet it better than he vetted Barney.

[This whole discourse is meant to be playful. I have a bit too much time on my hands today. But mind you, I am not drinking malt or sake]
