And that is why you haven't seen any new entries from S & M for the ETD market IMO. How long would it take, and what would the cost involved be for a supplier to get an "exempt distribution license" through vetting by the NRC?. It's all coming clearer, and just about wrapped up.

Gotta be the patents..

Smiths 500DT and Morpho Itemiser DX both have an exempt distribution
license issued by the NRC.
What this means for a customer who purchases a 500DT or Itemiser DX
in the USA?

Simple,
No need for a possession license, no need for periodic leak checks, no paperwork to file with agreement state or NRC.
They can treat the devise the same way you would an ionizing smoke detector. You or I could purchase one if you so choose.
The exempt distribution license requires the manufacturer to adhere to NRC regulations not the end user.
