This is kinda a repeat conversation, so I won't belabour the point.

But a hardware system designed for universal use and that asserts robust identities is much more broken than higgledy-piggledy software in the event that NSA has inserted a backdoor.

I understand your wish to discount these things. The ancient notion that the market is an efficient pricing mechanism is hardly the most persuasive evidence of anything given hardly anyone believes the hypothesis these days. Well, except for the folks who believe in "zombie ideas" for eons after they died!
