stock_peeker: Govment shutdown
I think we can live without the Government's data. In fact, to help balance the budget, they should can the people who put out those stupid reports. And while they are at it, defund Fannie and Freddie and abolish HUD and the Department of Energy. And cancel the portion of the U.S. debt being held by the Fed. (tee-hee, ha-ha, thank you Ron Paul for that one!) The bloated Federal Government is the problem.
As far as a shutdown--who cares. They should shut down Congress and make those guys find real jobs.
As Lentinman warned, the statistics show none of this can last. Think greatly devalued U.S. dollar and chaos. After the Revolutionary War, the veterans were owned their back pay but the new Government couldn't afford to pay them. No problem. They devalued the greenback 90 percent. So there is a precedent for a 90-percent devaluation of the U.S. dollar. Think about THAT!
And those fools are quibbling about a billion here and a billion there. A house of cards.
