We know how to do it! We just need the will!

At Navy Nuclear Power School (NPS), students were divided by GCT/ARI (literacy/math) scores into 14 separate classes to provide appropriate levels and speeds of education.

Slower students were taught nuclear technology and systems at a depth and speed they could handle, while the faster students had to race to keep up with their instructors.

All students were kept challenged, and classes were not slowed down or held up for a student who fell behind. He was given remedial training after hours until he caught back up. The incentive was to get off the after hours!

NPS students were able to cover a college-equivalent 12-18 months of math, physics, thermodynamics, metallurgy, radiological control, nuclear theory, nuclear plant technology, etc. in only 6 months.

At Nuclear Power Prototype (NPTU), the next stage where students were trained how to operate a nuclear plant within 6 months, he who fell behind was also put on remedial training after hours until he caught up. Now that's incentive! Many qualified in less than 6 months.

The Nuclear Navy demanded trained and competent operators of their nuclear powered ships and submarines.

Enlisted and officers went through the same NPTU training, although virtually none of the enlisted had college degrees.

That was back in the early 70's! Not sure what they're doing today.

Wasn't cheap though!
